I'm so excited just to seem him in uniform, but I don't think he'll play all that much, at least not until we clinch, so the sooner the better we clinch for multiple reasons.

    Mike (Mission Viejo, CA)
Joc Pederson is hitting .295/420/611 with 14 homeruns against lefties this year. Are you not buying the improvement or too small of a sample size?

    Klaw
Not only is it a tiny sample - one-year platoon splits are just not that meaningful - it's Albuquerque. He might as well be playing on the surface of Mercury.

Greg Brock, Jerry Sands, Billy Ashley, John Lindsey just to name a few. Love Joc's potential but AAA numbers are skewed plain and simple.

Doesn't change the fact that Andre Ethier and Carl Crawford couldn't put up those numbers combined in AAA.

^They played in other organizations and not necessarily in high altitude leagues remember. Dre had 28 games in Albuquerque and Carl played in the International league.

that's blasphemy to compare him to those guys, plus he also was the best hitter in a pitchers league last year, too.

NOT comparing the guys just pointing out the litany of guys who hit a lot of HR's and wowed the Dodger faithful with their stats and turned out to be busts. Obviously Joc has other things going for him but it seems we are enamored with his HR's stats. Great for him and great for the organization and I HOPE he is our RF'er for the next 10 years.

brock hit 44 bombs and had a .310 average for albuquerque in 1982
    ashley; 37/.345 in '94
and lest we forget "can't miss" prospect joe thurston

The huge difference is that scouts rave about Joc Pederson and didn't do so much with those other guys. The stats only tell part of the story. People who actually watch the games and can see if his talent can translate to the next level love Pederson. The stats for the minors aren't everything, and more important is the people who watch him and can see what the talent of the player is. Pederson is a great prospect from everyone who has seen him, and those other guys were mostly guys who put up great Triple A numbers but scouts were skeptical

That's not to say the scouts are 100% right all the time, no doubt. They have obviously been wrong about people they highly tout, just saying the scouting reports say more then the stats and is what excites me about Pederson

actually, they did rave about them
brock was advertised as an upgrade over garvey
and thurston was labelled by everyone as a can't miss player
    ashley, not so much...

    i'm excited as well
    about seager and urias too
maybe it's just me... to be a bit cautious with my optimism
that whole "hope for the best/prepare for the worst" scenario

Those guys were never Top 15 prospects in baseball, I don't think... it's not just the numbers
