We almost beat the Mets too. A couple timely hits and Daniel Murphy not existing would have helped

Let's build a bubble around the US...and it will only cost 10 billion errr 15 billion err 25 billion errr and Mexicans will pay for it..

What he really meant was it would cost 45 plus billion and Mexicans will build it...

Then another 7 bill to maintain it.. And yes it will be Mexicans who do that job too...

    Padres eyeing Pablo Sandoval
by Alex Butler | United Press International — 10 hours ago

FORT MYERS, Fla., March 28 (UPI) -- After downsizing on the scale this offseason, Pablo Sandoval's services are being weighed by the San Diego Padres.

"There's a San Diego Padres scout here taking a close look at Pablo Sandoval, post-back injury," Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reported Monday.

Cafardo referenced the Padres' interest in acquiring Sandoval in 2014 when he was a free agent. The team even offered Sandoval a deal, which was turned down, even though it was "thought to be larger" than other deals he received, according to Cafardo.

Sandoval eventually inked a five-year, $95 million contract with the Red Sox.

The Padres' current third baseman is Yangervis Solarte. Solarte, 28, hit .270, with 14 home runs and 63 RBI in 571 plate appearances last year for the Padres.

Sandoval played five innings, going 0-fo-3, in a minor league game Monday, according to Comcast Sports Net's Sean McAdam. The 29-year-old is currently dealing with back tightness.

Sandoval hit .245, with 10 home runs and 47 RBI in 505 plate appearances last year for the Red Sox.

Travis Shaw, 25, could push the veteran Sandoval for the hot corner starting gig. Shaw is hitting .353, with two home runs and nine RBI in 51 at-bats, this spring. Sandoval has hit .265, with two home runs and six RBI in 34 at-bats, this spring.

Jason Mastrodonato, of the Boston Herald, reported Monday that Red Sox manager John Farrell "is not ready to announce" who the team's starting third baseman will be.

Optimism vs. pessimism: Dodgers eye boost from kids, face threats in West
by Doug Padilla | ESPN Staff Writer — 12 hours ago

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- There is plenty to like about the Los Angeles Dodgers' chances in 2016, but for every positive, there seems to be a cause for concern.

Clayton Kershaw anchors the rotation, but Zack Greinke is gone, and last year’s team with Greinke on it couldn’t get past the New York Mets in the National League Division Series.

An offense that hit more home runs than anybody in the National League last year returns with even more long-ball potential now that Corey Seager is the everyday shortstop, but it was still an offense that was prone to lengthy downturns and will have to avoid more of the same in 2016.

Kenley Jansen is back to anchor the bullpen, but the performance on a whole from the relievers last season was not a team strength, and the only changes made were to add Joe Blanton and Louis Coleman.

And putting it all together is first-year manager Dave Roberts, who appears to have the utmost respect from his players, but whose time has been completely absorbed this spring making plans to overcome an onslaught of injuries that have defined his first camp.

    REASONS FOR OPTIMISM

    1. SoCal Hit Men: Last year’s team knew how to go deep, and this year should be more of the same. Not only is a power threat in Seager available every day, Yasiel Puig is expected to be healthy, and the Dodgers are working on helping Joc Pederson avoid an entire half of slumber, like he had last year. Dodger Stadium is no launching pad, but the club still figures to use the power game as a huge weapon.

    2. Pitching In: The Dodgers got a historic regular season from Greinke last year, but they still will return their staff ace and pitching anchor in Kershaw. The Dodgers aren’t looking for one person to match Greinke’s numbers, but will turn to the new left-right combination of Scott Kazmir and Kenta Maeda for some stability. More reinforcements are due before the All-Star break as Hyun-Jin Ryu and Brandon McCarthy are scheduled to return from injuries.

    3. Deep Thinkers: After seeing their club fight through injuries last season, the front office added depth this winter, even as they were unable to retain Greinke. Sure it is a concern that the depth already is being strained as the season gets set to start, but having been proactive in this area has avoided a mad scramble for worthy roster options. The quicker the injured get healthy, the better.

    4. Pen Is Mightier:
Nobody is going to compare the Dodgers’ bullpen to the one that led the Kansas City Royals to last year’s World Series title, but there is not only talent on hand, but much of that talent is young and potentially getting better. Of course the bullpen would have been better off with Aroldis Chapman in it, but that deal went by the wayside. Relievers under 30, in addition to Jansen, who are expected to help the cause this year: Luis Avilan, Pedro Baez, Carlos Frias, Yimi Garcia and Adam Liberatore. Jose De Leon and Julio Urias could also be called upon to help the bullpen at some point this year.

    5. Been There, Haven't Done That: The Dodgers have won the National League West and advanced to the postseason in three consecutive seasons, the first time that has happened in franchise history. So they know what it takes to win a division title and how to perform over the long haul. But the hunger remains, primarily because the Dodgers haven’t advanced to the World Series in any of those years, much less won it.

    REASONS FOR PESSIMISM

    1. Everybody Hurts:
The Dodgers had their fair share of injuries last year and it’s not like they got considerably younger, outside of the move to Seager at shortstop. Depth was added, at least partially because of this reason. All teams go through some injury issues as they ramp up for the season in the spring, but the Dodgers’ situation has been off the charts and an alarming view of what the regular season could potentially look like.

    2. Hello ... My Name Is:
Outside of pitching coach Rick Honeycutt, the Dodgers have an entirely new coaching staff this year, headed by manager Dave Roberts. That’s a lot of new information for players to process and new voices to relate to. The biggest tests will come the first time each player struggles, or the team as a whole finds itself in a funk. Once the honeymoon is over, more can be learned about a relationship when the first sign of adversity arises.

    3. Backup Plan:
There is nothing a pitcher needs more than his defense, and the Dodgers’ glove work will be under the spotlight. They had the least amount of errors of any team last season, but outside of Pederson in center and Adrian Gonzalez at first, they lack a Gold Glove Award contender. Not only that, their advanced age at first base, second, third and left field mean that range could be an issue. The Dodgers did have one Gold Glove winner in 2015, but Greinke is playing for the Arizona Diamondbacks this year.

    4. Division Means Subtraction:
Not only will the Giants supply their annual dose of trouble this season, especially on offense, a new foe has emerged in the Diamondbacks. The Dodgers know what Greinke is capable of doing and Arizona also has No. 2 starter Shelby Miller to make life difficult on opponents. But the D-backs’ chemistry test and the Dodgers’ injury challenge mean that the Bay Area will be a particular problem, especially if the Giants get pitching from the back end of the rotation.

    5. Kid You Not: Not only is Pederson being asked to right his second-half wrong from last year as a second-year player, the captain of the infield, Seager, has just 27 games of regular-season experience. The Dodgers don’t need their kids to carry the club, but they do need to them to transition seamlessly into big league life and contribute. If the veterans end up hobbled by injuries, then youth will need to carry the day for the club with the highest payroll in baseball. No pressure.
