Even with how poor Bellinger has hit, he's still getting plenty of pub. I swear there is an article a day about how he's probably the next monster in the game.

They've drastically risen expectations in regards to the farm. Should be interesting to see what the development side churns out in the coming seasons.

a lot to be excited about to be sure
the nerds have assembled depth in every area... the big club, the minors, even in the front office
also nice to have so much [player] depth that they can afford to trade some prospects to acquire a big name if needed -- which may not even be necessary with all the talented prospects they've put together

Didn't notice Bellinger was doing poorly. He's made some slick plays at first.

I like how "sparkles" is 2 IP, 2 H, 2 BB's, 1 K on 43 pitches. Good for him though, he was not taking the next step in our org and it took another coach to help him turn the corner and add a little more bite to his pitches. I hope that that in the future, that trade doesn't come back to bite us, but Hill looks like a worthwhile acquisition thus far.

SMH....should have seen that one from a mile away!!!!!
Yeah, I red that title and then thought the same thing. I still think that Cotton/Montas were a bit much for Hill. I still think Hill is a big question mark. He has had to outings so far one was terrible and the last one was ok, for our rotation sake I hope he turns the corner. Montas is looking good as well this ST. Crazy thing......I can find a thing on Grant Holmes.....I mean NADA. He is not on the A's 40 man roster, has not played on any ST games. I can't even find if he is hurt, yet he is ranked their 3rd best prospect ahead of Cotton and Montas?????

Holmes is viewed very differently around the prospect world. Some view him as a future rotation head, others back end starter, some see closer and others see middle relief. He's just kinda motoring along, not doing anything crazy special, but not really struggling either. Just continuing to put up solid numbers, but not turning any heads doing it. Cotton does not have overwhelming stuff outside of a +/++ changeup and Montas has the +/++ FB, but struggles at times with command and the slider can be + when he is locating. Ultimately all 3 of those guys are likely to be in the bullpen unless a couple things go right for them. I think it was worth the risk, Hill did great, but Reddick fell pretty fucking flat. If he had played up to standards, we may be singing a different tune this spring. I wouldn't get too worked up by Hill yet, he has said that his Springs always suck(including last year). He did fine last game when he was locating, but he still struggling with his command. I would be worried if this wasn't a career norm for him, but it is.

Dodgers gave Calhoun crash course during Spring Training
by Matthew Moreno | Dodger Blue — 7 minutes ago

While the Los Angeles Dodgers were shuffling non-roster invitees and Minor Leaguers in and out of their early Spring Training games, Willie Calhoun — one of the organization’s top prospects — remained in dugout.

Calhoun appeared off the bench March 5, which was the Dodgers’ 10th Cactus League game of the year. Up to that point he’d been undergoing a “crash course,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said.

“He ascended through talent, and to be a complete baseball player is really important. We’re hitting him from all angles and he’s doing a great job.”

Calhoun’s early work during camp included fielding extra grounders at second base, and additional focus on conditioning and weight training. “The main thing is he gets it and has bought into it’s going to help him in the short and longterm,” Roberts said.

The Dodgers were mindful of the heavy workload, and found it prudent to not add to Calhoun’s day, Roberts went on to explain.

While there have been some questions over Calhoun’s ability as a second baseman, the Dodgers have not given any indication of having such concerns. Roberts said the organization strictly views the 22-year-old as a second baseman.

“The actions are pretty good and the work ethic is there,” Roberts said. Calhoun has worked extensively with Dodgers third base and infield coach Chris Woodward, both prior to and during Spring Training.

“[Woodward] said he likes [Calhoun’s] actions, but there are some mechanical things he can clean up,” Roberts said. “The aptitude and willingness is there. Woody had him a little before camp started, and even now, said there’s been drastic improvement with Willie’s defense.”

Entering Saturday, Calhoun is batting .318/.348/.757 with two doubles and three RBI in 12 Cactus League games. Since the slow start, he’s appeared in each game since debuting against the Seattle Mariners on March 5.

This year is Calhoun’s first significant experience in Major League camp. He appeared in four Cactus League games last year, making one start. The Dodgers selected Calhoun in the fourth round of the 2015 Draft.

Mitch(guess they're dropping the ell) White pitched yesterday against Japan and apparently looked pretty damn good going 2 IP, giving up a leadoff hit then retiring 6 in a row with 3 K's. He and Walker Buehler have been the behind the scenes talks of camp. I'd love for a couple of bats to take a leap this year, but the talk of both of these dudes potentially being front line starters to pair with what we already have with Urias and then Alvarez on the way should be fun. Both White and Buehler are TJ survivors and have seen a bump in velocity since joining the organization.

One thing that has been interesting, since the draft last year, there has been very little discussion about Jordan Sheffield. He didn't blow the doors down like these other guys, but it's not like he had much of a chance either. The guys stuff already rated highly, so it will be interesting to see what the organization is able to do. His control is his biggest issue it sounds like as he is a max effort guy. Wonder with his build if they work him as a starter this year and when he is closing in on his innings, if they transition him to relief later in the second half to have a stretch run contribution.

This is my personal feelings, just some names to watch of guys likely to spend most if not all the year in the minors who you have not seen yet at the big league level.

Early indications are that these are the Dodgers prospects to watch this season:
Bellinger, Verdugo, Calhoun, Alvarez, Buehler and White. Each one of these are guys have yuge ceilings and the potential to be impact players for the stretch run. Oaks is someone else who will be interesting, but he is viewed more as a worm killing innings eater.

These are the guys who need big years that you likely have not heard much about:
OF Diaz- Flashed impact starter skills, but struggled with injuries and some Cuban quirks that need to be fixed to line his game up a little better.

C Will Smith- Last year's Supp 1st round pick, light(no tower) power catcher with solid hit skills and really good defensively. Athletic for the position, but I really hope we see a bit more out of him with the power. 8-10 HR's a year may not cut it for him to be a starter going forward.

SS Drew Jackson- Former M's top prospect acquired in the De Jong trade. Kid has fallen down the ranks as his bat has failed to show up thus far in MiLB. Glove skills to stay at SS, but Dodgers need to fix issues with swing and hope to right this ship. Prospect light is dimming, but elite arm and speed paired with a return of the stick could make him valuable trade bait.

CIF Edwin Rios- This is the biggest one for me, but pretty much only me. Big time power hit 27 HR's across 3 levels and 110 games last year and has a strong arm, but most likely the overall fielding skills to put him at 1B. He is another hard worker that the org is aiming for who will need to shorten swing and become more disciplined to become a MLB prospect. He will be 23 this season, but it will be a make or break year after his eye opening 2016.

OF DJ Peters- Could the Dodgers have another 4th round JuCo success story on their hands? Big dude coming off a nice introductory year in the Dodgers system. Good athlete with big time power potential, he's already 21 and is going to have show that the numbers he put up in Ogden weren't just inflated from the Pioneer League.

OF Mitchell Hansen- Hate to say make or break year for a guy who is only 20, but he has underwhelmed since signing and is gonna need a good year to recoup prospect status. He has tumbled down many prospect lists for us.

Guys just to watch, but still young:
SS Gavin Lux- Last years first round pick is a northern state prospect, which usually means a slightly delayed development schedule. It will be interesting to see how he does as initial reports were positive.

MIF Omar Estevez- His signing bonus was a little puzzling, but the young Cuban IF'er has shown promise with the bat and really came on down the stretch in the MWL. Extremely young for the league and only turned 19 last month. Is likely going to HiA, but could repeat LoA. He has a big year and he could supplant Calhoun as the 2B of the future as he has also been better than expected with the glove(Calhoun would have to go sideways with the glove).

P- Dustin May- Another big dude, but it's his long red hair that gets all the attention. A lot of projectability in this 6'6" RH'er who has advanced feel for his pitches, at just 19, he's a few years away yet, but has the early signs of being something special

Missed this, but former Dodgers prospect Jose De Leon was optioned to AAA according to MinorLeagueBall.com. Wow, that is an early demotion for a guy that was expected to be in the Rays opening day rotation. He has had a rough spring, but looked good pitching for Puerto Rico.

    Feel for him
Good guy, worked hard to trim down coming out of school
Hope he turns it around and don't doubt that he will..gonna be tough in that division, but fuck, who knows if that's his last stop anyway?
Shit, if the franchise moves out of Tampa there's no telling what division he'll be pitching in
