Well, if it´s as a consultant ( which is what this dubious report says), meaning yet another small role..then the fascination factor is lacking.
If you´re all about the small role, why not just keep your small role with the team that´s winning?
Don´t buy it..if there´s any truth to the report I could see him trying to leverage more money from GSW or something like that.
He´s certainly not coming back to LAL to run day to day ops @ nearly 80yrs old, especially after they just put Magic in charge, so if it´s a chase for a bigger role/re-living the past..LAL should respectfully pass on that.
Give him another statue or something and let that era go..a statue with his feet up on a desk making a call with a rotary phone Lol

Jerry's eyes and ears in the room certainly couldn't hurt, especially in a room with newbies like Magic and Pelinka.

Still have a hard time seeing what´s in it for him, other maybe feeling needed.
But then on the other end of that rainbow is the ¨ credit grab ¨..as in who´s gonna get the credit when LAL is back to it´s winning ways in a few years?
Maybe Magic would feel like ¨ fuck that..I already had to beat your ghost back as a player..let me have this ¨
Guess we´ll see what comes of it in the end, but I´m skeptical of the report as it is because of the legalities involved

If Magic feels like that he's doomed to fail. I think he's smarter than that.

Yeah No. I just completely hosed it. I thought Pau had been traded to the Mavericks rather than the Spurs when I saw him on the playoffs highlights the other night. WTF it's still Texas I guess.

Funny shit that reverse white racism

and to think West is in it for the credit is equally absurd

a totally harsh thing to say about such a great player and person.

I've met Jerry, hung briefly with him in the tunnels to the Forum club back in the day. Jerry lived and breathed the Lakers to the point of obsession, He couldn't bear to watch it hurt so much when they fucked up time after time. He held himself to higher than Kobe level personal standards. He left because he was an emotional mess around the team, which is why he hid in tunnels rather than sit courtside. He still deserves every accolade the Lakers can give him.

He does not need daily involvement. Cooler heads are in charge and should remain so.
He should occupy a place of reverent respect similar to Sandy Koufax with the Dodgers.
His uniform is already in the rafters, show the man some respect.

Dis rotary phones because you're young enough to never use one if you wish but cut old Jerry some slack ya pup. :codge:

However Magic feels..Jeanie still runs the ship from an overall standpoint, so it´s hard to say how much impact he could have there, but still..Magic is back because he likes what he sees and feels the heavy lifting/tanking is done for the most part.
Magic wouldn´t even have accepted this role if he didn´t think some glory was around the corner, and execs have been known to fight for their power/standing.
It´s one thing to ask novice Kobe to have a role, another to add the long shadow of West.
All that said, Magic´s been an unselfish star in the sport for a long time, so it´s also hard to pin that level of selfishness on him..you just never know and he did have his 1st coach with LAL fired.
This all smells like the Phil Jackson stuff from the past couple years, though, aka headline hunting/click bait.

You think I never used a rotary? Lol Guess I´m a bit older than you think. West is great in every way as it pertains to bball, but his stints with the Grizzlies and Warriors point to an ability to move on. He´s done fine away from LAL and remains a fixture with LAL regardless..bet you didn´t know Kupchak actually brought West in this year to talk to the young Lakers. And he of course is still working for the Warriors, so him coming in and talking with the Ingrams and Randles was a mystery in itself, but also a show of appreciation. But if West is still battling depression, watching a Laker team that´s probably due to lose at least 50 games next year probably isn´t ideal for his situation. Spending his last years with a winner is probably a better situation for what he´s been battling for so long. That may be taking the ¨ ride or die ¨ saying too far..Lakers might kill him.

Yeah pretty fair assessment of Magic and his 'role'. He IS a media whore and he sees good times coming. He is adored by John Q. Public. More than Jeannie or anyone else so milk the heck out of that.

and some amount of this IS click bait, because WTF else are these hacks going to do between games/seasons? Wild speculation is hte order of the day.

Jerry doesn't need a role but to be honored on his way out and not be banished or exiled from Laker land simply because he's an emotional wreck. But no day to day role is required other than, as stated, a seasoned set of ears in the room.

We don't need Phil in any way shape or form.
Jeannie is done riding that pony now

No, not so much that West is in it for credit, but that his exec shadow is just so large that it's an uncontrollable blob.
I know MFs that think West deserves the credit for where the Warriors are right now.

West was banished because of Jeannies relationship with Phil.
Phil is gone. West can come back.

“We told every player that they must improve and we want them to be in the best physical shape of their lives. We don’t want anybody over seven or eight percent body fat anymore, and basically all but one or two players were in double-figures in body fat (last season),” Johnson said. “We can’t have that. We told them that this is all about excellence now. So you’ve got to be disciplined and put the work in.”

Johnson also offered a warning for any Lakers thinking about not following that edict.

“Those who come back in shape, they’re going to see the court. Those who don’t, won’t see the court. It’s as simple as that,” Johnson said. “This is not about anything but excellence, so you’ve got to be a professional. This is your job.”

Did Magic ever have a lean physique?
Maybe as a freshman in college.

Not calling Magic selfish. Not at all. Just foolish if he didn't avail himself of West's expertise given the chance.

He didn't thrive outside of basketball ignoring the advice of successful people.

    Those "MFs" would be wrong.

The pieces were in place well before The Logo came to the GSWs. Truth be told, Mark Jackson got them going in the right direction.
