That'd be LAD flexing it's financial muscle again, instead of flexing it's prospect depth
Maybe the way they want to go right now since Verdugo/Buehler/Alvarez are untouchable

Quite the debut for Quintana: 7 IP, 0 runs, 12 Ks.

Hope the Cubs don't turn it around...can't stand them.

I don't either BUT it was the O's. I'll get more concerned if they do it against the Braves who played very well against the Bags.

On the other hand, it could be a chance to squash them.

They're either going to win the division or catch the Rox for the final wild card.

I'm ok with any scenario that keeps the Rockies out of the playoffs. I don't want a couple cheap losses in Coors to end an otherwise great season.

Can they even put together a legitimate offer?

No clue. A legitimate offer for Stanton just means picking up a big percentage of his remaining contract... it's more about money than sending prospects in return.

Love to see him try to play RF in that stadium on a daily basis.

Real or Not? Rich Hill makes the Dodgers even scarier
by Bradford Doolittle | ESPN Staff Writer — 36 minutes ago

It was mostly a very Rich Hill kind of outing on Sunday. The Los Angeles Dodgers' lone lefty starter baffled the Miami Marlins for five innings, burning through 92 pitches while allowing a single run, as his team went on to win 3-2. It was the ninth straight win for the juggernaut Dodgers, who are threatening to reach 70 victories before they even reach 30 losses. They just don't seem to lose anymore.

Hill has been the poster boy for baseball's surge in blister problems over the past couple of seasons, during which he's gone on the disabled list four different times because of the nettlesome malady. The issue has kept Hill's innings total low, and not just because of the DL stays. He's now pitched five innings or fewer in 10 of his 13 starts, though he had gone seven in three straight outings prior to Sunday.

An unfortunate offshoot of Hill's low innings total is that it skews just how well he's pitched overall. Hill has had two poor outings, giving up five runs in four innings against the St. Louis Cardinals on May 24 and seven runs in four innings against the Cleveland Indians on June 15. Because of those bombs, his season ERA remains an artificially high 3.55 even after Sunday's performance.

But since, Hill has hit a stretch of good health and longer outings. Let's ponder the possibilities here. Take out the two bad outings and Hill's ERA this season is 2.25 -- only a bit higher than last year's 2.12 mark between L.A. and Oakland.

Now think about this: If Hill is pitching at that level and you've got Clayton Kershaw, who has been at that level since birth, and Alex Wood, who has allowed three runs over the past month, just how good is that playoff rotation stacking up?

We often look at teams, such as the San Francisco Giants in years past, as being a greater threat in October than in the regular season because the postseason format allows their starting pitching to paper over shortcomings elsewhere, and often to dominant effect. But these Dodgers ... don't have any apparent shortcomings to paper over.

Hill is about the most un-scary guy you'd ever meet. But if he stays off the DL, he makes the Dodgers truly frightening.

Dodgers had concerns over Doolittle’s shoulder
by Matthew Moreno | Dodger Blue — 2 hours ago

While the Los Angeles Dodgers have been the class of the National League for the better part of the past six weeks, the Washington Nationals sit atop their division and are expected to contend for the NL pennant.

Much like the Dodgers, the Nationals were said to be in the market for bullpen help ahead of the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline. Washington addressed their needs Sunday by trading for relievers Sean Doolittle and Ryan Madson.

The Oakland Athletics received relief pitcher Blake Treinen, and prospects Jesus Luzardo and Sheldon Neuse. The domino effect impacts the Dodgers, who reportedly are looking to acquire a left-handed reliever.

According to David Vassegh of AM 570 L.A. Sports Radio, the Dodgers’ interest in Doolittle was tempered by him missing five weeks this season with a shoulder strain:
    tweetr.png
Doolittle held a 3.52 ERA and .185 opponents’ batting average in nine relief appearances when he was placed on the DL May 3 (retroactive to April 30). The 30-year-old is 1-0 with two two saves an a 3.29 ERA since returning.

Overall this season, Doolittle owns a 3.38 ERA and 2.34 FIP in 23 games. Although there may be some durability concerns with the left-hander, his 39.2 percent strikeout rate is on track to set a career high.

With Doolittle no longer available, reports suggest potential options for the Dodgers include Baltimore Orioles closer Zach Britton, though he too has missed time this season due to injury, and Detroit Tigers closer Justin Wilson, among others.
