What would it take to get Britton in blue?

    What about Darvish?

As long as we retain Verdugo and Buehler I think everyone else is fair game. Alvarez and Calhoun can go. As good as they are, you can't keep everyone and those are the guys you can afford to let go when you're looking to add an established player for the WS run.

Maybe they finally downloaded a brain and only look for damaged goods in the off seasons now and try and look to trade for players who can actually play at the deadline?

    Here's to hoping......

3rd year in a row where Doolittle's missed significant time because of his shoulder.
LAD mostly goes out and takes chances on guys in free agency, only costs them money.
If Doolittle were a FA on the street, he'd be in blue for sure.
It's just tough when you start talking about trade compensation/moving prospects all the while wondering if the guy you're targeting on the trade block can even hold up for the rest of the season

Infallibility, I heard, is only reserved for the devine, like Jesus and other dieties, if you will. I've read some things about Mother Teresa that even causes doubt...
So, it's possible, the FO, is only semi devine, and works almost all miracle moves. Maybe this is one, or two, they might have missed out on. No one, it seems, is willing to accept that possibility in light of the juggernaut thing we've got going on now.
But if this gets the Nats to the promised land, and then the shoulders fucking fall off, it will be well worth it. Whatever " they paid too much " bullshit rises up from wherever, it will mean zero if they win it all. Zero. Even if we win the NLW again.
And again. For the next decade. But not the World thing.
Although there is disagreement, winning that world series thing is still pretty cool, and what it is all about for most boys. And an increasing number of girls. And some fans.

Yeah that's true. Losing money hurts way less than losing a good player.

I still think Madson + Doolittle would've been a great combo package but let's see what they get. There's still Hand, Blevins, Wilson, and Britton along with Reed, Brach, and some good righty relievers from the white Sox

Going to be honest, that trade stings a bit. Kinda shocked that it barely cost the Nats anything to get two late inning relievers that they desperately needed. Would have liked to have seen them give up a little more from the top of their farm so they were weaker when it comes to addressing their other openings from all of the injuries.
One thing on the back of my mind is for how cheap these guys went for, and us rumored to be interested as well, I have to believe that the club is confident they're getting something better from somewhere else. Even with the injury concerns, I think with prospects that went out, you try to beat that deal.

Had a very vivid dream that we traded Hill and Turner to Miami for Stanton.

Had to hop on here ASAP to make sure it wasn't true.

I had that initial thought as well but they weren't closers for their own team but I don't pretend to know why this is the case. Madsen has been good for a long while and yet hadn't been traded to a contender which is odd to me. I wanted Doolittle for our team because he could have broken up the right handed tendencies in our pen but he's been on the DL with arm issues. I am hoping this guy is right about those 2 guys.

Why Verlander's availability could play a role

If you look outside of LAD, doesn't seem like any of the playoff bound teams were overly excited to give up trade comp for what could be considered damaged goods.
It's not like LAD is in sole control of the market, so there had to be a handful of teams that had some level of interest, but then ultimately decided not to get deep into negotiations maybe because of prior asking prices, other opportunities on the market, and/or the injury history of the two.
Doolittle's shoulder troubles already mentioned, but we also know that Madson's elbow blew up in the past and he missed 3 seasons in succession.
AF has done a fairly good job of building the pen and says he's never done with it, so we'll see

Seems pretty simple to me, and that's even IF Beane and the NERDS were talking about a trade.....

Beane was bluffing to get us to overpay, we didn't so he took what was on the table.

Don't know why I can't put a tweet in the thread but Rosenthal reporting that we are willing to trade Morrow and Romo to clear space for a left handed reliever. The reason for Romo is obvious less so with Morrow. Much easier to trade Morrow obviously. We really must think that Buehler is real close to joining the big club.

imo trading morrow would not make sense
he's been our only reliable RH other than a typically shaky baez

    Really?
God bless him, he's been good, but it's Brandon Morrow..one of the most injury prone pitchers in MLB.
If you can get value for him + clear space for a better/more reliable reliever, I think you do that.
Figure out what to do @ RHP afterwards ( or beforehand), whether it's Buehler or somebody else

I am sure that if Morrow is going another domino will fall. Im kinda hoping MGT pulls off a Britton trade. It would be nice to throw Baez out there in the 7th, then Britton in the 8th and Jansen in the 9th. I also keep reading that several teams are calling about Verdugo. I kinda wonder if MGT rebuffing everyone is a tactic to increase his trade value.

LOL @ Dodgers are willing to trade Romo. I'd have no problem cutting Romo if roster space is needed.

I agree with Morrow, doesn't make sense to trade him... how scarce are rosters spots? If they need space for Buehler on the 25-man roster, then it makes more sense to wait until September to call him up. If they need space on the 40-man they can 60-day DL Urias and/or cut Romo, Hatcher, and Mike Freeman (Who the hell is Mike Freeman?).

I've wondered that about him too. The thing about Verdugo is that he just fits too well with our upcoming needs in 1-2 years.
