That some Russia, Venezuela, North Korea level shit there.
But with the American capitalist twist of it costing us 5.4M bucks instead of the DoD compelling them to do it for free.
Honestly though, its a token. The NFL can charge way more money for the spot.
Which is essentially what it is, an advertising spot.
    Except you are advertising Patriotism?
Which if it was true would not need to it to be advertised.

Maybe I should have been more clear when I said "original intent"? What I was actually referring to was Colin Kaepernick's intent behind kneeling, which I assume has not changed. When this whole thing started he was actually sitting on the bench during the anthem and Nate Boyer of the Seattle Seahawks, and former Green Beret, took offense to that. The two talked it out and have since become friends, and Nate Boyer suggested Colin Kaepernick kneel during the anthem as a show of respect for the US Military. So at least in the case of Kaepernick the intent behind kneeling is out of respect for the military (his reasons for not standing in a traditional salute are different).

So no matter where you stand on the topic, there is at least some irony in feeling like kneeling is a show of disrespect towards the military.

I've lost track of why they are doing it in the first place. If they are doing it to stick it to the president, that's a dumb reason and the wrong platform. If they are doing it to protest inequity, I'd rather they try to articulate their points with data and evidence in an environment where someone with an objective view could challenge them on their assertions. Inequality and inequity are two different things. These players equate them. There are no laws to my knowledge that are racist in nature and nothing systemically that is opressing any particular group of people. It seems to me that equal opportunity is not recognized because equal outcome is impossible to achieve.

    All of this is stupid.

The disrespect is not being in unison.
    No matter what you do.
Everyone has to be of one spirit is what they are really getting at.
Just like it used to be called disrespect if you did not put your hand on your heart.
And before that it was disrespect if you did not put your hand up fascist style.

On its own kneeling for the anthem should actually show more respect if respect was a thing to be measured so cheaply.
If the respect is true then it is piety and that only raises a countries spirit.
If the respect is done for show it drops the value that respect has in your society.
Undermining the point of your show.
Your show might have a good point.
But you are making a scene and disrupting the flow.
There are other avenues to make your point.
Of course certain changes can only occur if you make a scene and disrupt the flow.
But then you better know this, and be ok with this, because if you do this then you MUST be a martyr.
If you try to save your life you will lose it.
And Colin should not have tried to save his life. (career)
If he wanted to be the martyr then he had to take martyrdom with a smile and ask the fans to forgive the NFL for it is not time yet for them to understand.
But if Colin would have done that... the NFL would have to at some point understand.
Colin would be the person we look back as the guy who changed the NFL.
I doubt that will be the case now.
That he is the guy or that the NFL will change adequately any time soon because of his action.

He certainly didn't do himself any favors by (a) having the verbal skills of a spazdic 3rd grader, and (b) deciding not to vote in the election because it "didn't matter."

Visit as many schools and charity organizations as you like, but if that is the example you want to set, you're a moron standing on a milk crate.

So Tommy goes out to the mound to lift Drysdale in the WS, the day after Koufax threw a shutout...
As he gets there, DD says " I know what you're going to say...you wish I was Jewish".

Matt Cain has announced his retirement and all I can think is how fucking nice he is being for those fucking Giants. Moore's debacle of a season, paired with this shit has essentially freed up 15.5 Million for them this offseason. I believe that by retiring, Cain has vacated his 7.5 mil buyout, but I am not 100% sure. Giants are expected to potentially shop both Joe Panik and Brandon Belt this offseason, but we shall see. There are whispers out of SF that Posey's days behind the plate are numbered. Yes he is a fantastic catcher, but he has broken down in the second half in each of the last two seasons.

I just started writing a "if I were them" scenario, but fuck I have no clue what they should do. Their farm is terrible, they are saddled with some big awful looking contracts (Cueto, Samardzija and Melancon for 61 million nxt yr and 56 Mil the following 2 seasons), bad expiring contracts (Span and Pence for 33.5 Mil), some that were deemed team friendly contracts at the time and now are ehhhhh...(Belt 4 yrs 17.2 per, Crawford 4 yrs 15.2 Mil per and Posey 4 yrs at 22.1 Mil per), a couple potentially solid arb or pre-arb role players(Arroyo 6 yrs control, Dyson 3 Arb yrs, Panik 3 Arb yrs and Smith 2 Arb yrs) and a really cheap Bumgarner for 2 more yrs. As a hater of the Giants, I love seeing what looks like some turmoil on the horizon.

The best indicator will be Bochy as he has two more years left on his contract and as we have all seen, some frustrations abound in regards to him from within the clubhouse. If he is not gone around the end of the season, then that tells me they are going for it with mostly what they got already. Not saying they want to get rid of Bochy, but I don't see him wanting to put up with any sort of a rebuild. I could see them going all in for one last season with this core by just adding a LF'er or CF'er since there will be aplenty (Cain, Granderson, Martinez, Upton[maybe], Bautista, Bruce and Cargo) and hoping to get some sort of spark from health alone. They will be an interesting team to watch and in the event we fall short of another WS, I could see us and the Giants being the two most active teams this offseason.

I find it near impossible to believe that Cain is foregoing his $7.5 million buyout just so he can tell people he is retiring a week early. My guess is that the front office already agreed to buyout the contract, and his announcement is just ceremonious. By announcing it early, the Giants get to cash in one last time with extra people in the stand for Cain's last start on Saturday, and Cain gets to save face like retiring was his decision. Otherwise it makes no sense to retire, you would at least wait until you know if they are buying out the contract.

Agree with CKWG's last line there. Said the other day, that as weird as it sounds, SFG should be rooting for LAD to win the WS and stay the course. Because if LAD loses, and is out on the market looking to making sweeping changes, that'll directly effect what SFG is able to get done this off-season. LAD with far more assets.

Yeah, I think if we don't win it all, you will see some serious turnover on the edges. Turner, Seager, Bellinger, Kershaw and Taylor are locks to remain, but anybody beyond that could be available.
