Just read an article on Ethier by that hack Dylan Hernandez. There's something about him [no homo] that fans love and it's hard [no homo] to explain.

This part gave me chills:

It seems like yesterday he came here in a trade for Milton Bradley. He's been a constant for younger Dodger fans. I remember by 2006 there was nobody left from the 2004 team. It's been an organization of extreme turnover. But he was here for the 4 HRs, the Kent/Drew getting thrown out at home plate in New York, Mannywood, Matt Stairs, the Rollins double to the gap, the Mccourt divorce, the 2013 Magic Castle Dodgers, the 5 straight division championships, eight post-seasons, Vero Beach, Camelback ranch, Grady Little, Joe Torre, Don Mattingley, Ned, the Nerds, etc. etc. I know that sounds like mostly torture, but there were some damn good moments in that era. It's an era that carried many of us from childhood to adulthood.

With Vin gone, Ethier is the last piece of my Dodger adolescence. I hope he's able to close the Dodger chapter of his career with a huge, WS defining moment on the national stage to cement his 12 year legacy here.

 

If Ethier wasn't fucking hopeless against lefties I would have liked him more. Fucker doesn't like to get his pants dirty either. Plus, his name is quite similar to "either" which at times was tough on the internet banter.

I'll remember Dre for his season with 15 walk off hits, his battle with Juan Pierre to play LF, those periods where I forgot he was on the team for a year at a time, and the 6 years of trade rumors where we were convinced he was going to Boston to be with his buddy Dustin Pedrioa.

It's great to see a guy in one uniform for so long, and he was a big part of this team at times, but it really feels like an accident that he's still here. He was damn near traded to Arizona at one point, and if he had been then we'd be talking about Kemp still being with us instead.

Either way, when right he's been one of the most important Dodgers over the past decade. I like to think he has one more walk off hit in him.

 

I had more than one battle with auto correct over Ethier's name. I won some, auto correct won some.

So what was it that Gonzalez was awarded tnen? He earned Gold Glove awards, or Golden Gloves?

Yeah, passed balls are an issue for both, but Sanchez is far and away behind in the framing category from Grandal and isn't much ahead of him in the throwing department, while also making 13 errors at the position compared to YG's 6 who has had WAY more chances. So at least defensively Grandal makes up for some of his shortcomings, but for fucks sake, so many of his passed balls could have been avoided. I understand the need to steal a strike here and there, but a lot of his PB's are on balls that he needs to turn the glove over or breakdown. Also to be fair, if Grandal is calling Yankee stadium home, can DH 20+ games a year and is in the AL East, he probably has AT least 30 HR and his spray chart supports that pretty well. That division outside of TB is a complete hitters haven, especially for a guy like him that likes to work the corners. If he played in Boston, he is probably close to a 40+ HR guy since a lot of his outs are on deep flyouts to LF-LC. Not saying that Grandal is the better catcher, but if he is in that division, his numbers would probably be much more comparable.

Also, while digging for this I took a look at Barnes. His numbers behind the plate have taken a hit lately and he has dropped a bit in #'s compared to where he was before he started playing more regularly. It is weird as I had noticed when he was catching, he was not getting as many close calls as he had earlier in the season and his framing numbers are showing it. Not sure if umps are more on to him or what, but those borderline calls that Grandal gets more regularly are not happening for him at the moment.

Hear you, but if they "are on to him" with his sleight of hand framing, why don't they do the same with Grandal then?
He's the one with all the press behind it, not Barnes.
