i wouldn't be so quick to dismiss the yankees
yes they'll be underdogs against houston
but what were they against [arguably] the best team in the al -- especially after being down 0-2?
fox sports was implying they might be in trouble since they lost 5-of-7 against the astros during the regular season
what they neglected to mention was that they also dropped 5-of-7 against cleveland
not saying they're [necessarily] going to win
but to concede the al pennant to houston is, at the very least, a bit premature imo

    • “I don’t think the Dodgers played exceptionally well [in the NLDS],” Lovullo said. “I’ve seen them play better. They had a great streak in the middle of the season, but they played good enough to win, and they deserved to win this series. So my congratulations to that organization.”
    what a fucken douche
    we swept your punk asses
if we didn't play well, wtf does that say about your shit team?
    fucken idiot

conversely, and somewhat surprisingly, archie bradley showed a lot more class...
    • “There’s a lot of reasons we can look back on why we didn’t win any of these games, but I think the bottom line is they were just a better team,” Diamondbacks reliever Archie Bradley said. “They came out and they beat us. It’s a tough one to swallow. It’s going to sit with us for a while this offseason.”

I took it as a compliment, that
    a) even not at our best we were the better team, and
    b) that he acknowledges that we're even better than we showed.

Shohei Otani to have surgery on right ankle
Associated Press — 6 hours ago

TOKYO -- Japanese baseball player Shohei Otani will have right ankle surgery on Thursday.

The reigning Pacific League MVP, in his fifth season with the Nippon Ham Fighters, is prized as both a pitcher and hitter. He is likely to leave Japan and sign with a Major League Baseball team through the posting system in the offseason.

The 23-year-old Otani initially injured his ankle while running the bases during the Japan Series last October, and ended up having to withdraw from the World Baseball Classic in March.

"I want to be in perfect condition for the new season," Otani said.

Otani played in only 65 games this season, batting .332 with eight home runs and 31 RBIs. As a pitcher, he was 3-2 with a 3.20 ERA and 29 strikeouts.

Agree with @lastatman here, I don’t think he is taking it as a slight towards us and he’s certainly not wrong. We were pretty horrible with RISP in that series I believe and only getting 3 with the way Greinke was pitching and the roof being open was sort of a joke as well. I just think he was saying that we are capabale of playing even better than we just did. If it’s an insult to anybody, it’s to the D’Backs truthfully, “hey those guys really didn’t play all that well and they still kicked our sorry asses.”

I could give two shits about the Indians. But funny that they were atop everyone's power rankings and they fell in round 1.

What’s even crazier is that they completely neutralized the Yankees two best hitters in that series and still lost. Their offense completely broke down and couldn’t exploit the weakness that is the Yankees starting rotation in those last 3. Bats went cold at the wrong time.
Astros are a different kind of animal, pitching is not nearly as good as Cleveland’s, but their offense is much scarier when they’re clicking. It will be interesting to see how the Yankees bullpen does up against these guys and whoever wins it, may be coming out of this thing a little worn down.

that's why i'm saying it's premature to dismiss the yankees
imagine what they could do if sanchez and judge heat up
but you're right, the astros are a different beast
still, as they say good pitching neutralizes good hitting
up to the yankees rotation/pen to do that... which is certainly no easy task

You think the Encarnacion injury was a factor in their O breaking down? Pretty big presence in the middle of that order.
Either way, fuck them and thank goodness they're out haha

That was simply a great at bat by Gardner in the ninth...he exemplified the grit of the team, and they have it, like it or not.
I make no predictions about the outcome of the Astros series, but don't think a blanket dismissal of them makes any sense at all, given the facts and outcome.
The "experts" on the TV, and on here, too, did just that, and now are touting them with praise, instead of why they won't and even ridicule.
In the end though, only thing that really matters, is that we get there.

Echoing the astute wisdom of Harold Reynolds, the Cleveland Indians are a "team that will be a contender for years to come"...news flash!
Not necessarily a winner, but a p!ayer in the post...
    Welcome to the club, Indians.
Without an eventual WS appearance, it can get very, very frustrating.
Yup. Like, you're good, but not quite that good. Close, but no cigar.
Gotta be in it to win it...for sure.
But it inevitably brings up the question: would you rather be a team who wins at the same level every year, or be a team that breaks through now and then, and gets there?
