    confident as fuck?

Ethier believes 2017 team more confident than previous Dodger teams
by Matt Borelli | Dodger Blue — 2 hours ago

The Los Angeles Dodgers clinched a fifth consecutive National League West title and are in the NL Championship Series for a fifth time in the past decade. It’s arguably their most successful stretch since relocating from Brooklyn.

On Monday, Los Angeles added to their historic year by completing a three-game sweep over the Arizona Diamondbacks in the NL Division Series. The Dodgers’ performance was indicative of the team that paced the Majors with 104 wins.

It did not include Andre Ethier for much of the year, as he remained sidelined for the first five months while recovering from a herniated disc in his lower back. Ethier, the longest-tenured Dodgers, has been with the team for their previous successes and shortcomings.

Echoing what others within the organization have expressed, Ethier said this year’s Dodgers team is separated from previous renditions by their closeness and confidence, per Bill Plaschke of the L.A. Times:

“This team is different from our other ones because of our confidence in each other,” said veteran Andre Ethier, who has played on all five consecutive division title squads. “There was never a doubt. Even coming to Arizona, we knew we would figure out a way.”

The Dodgers, who lost their final six games in Arizona during the regular season, displayed that confidence in Game 3 and sealed the deal at Chase Field despite struggling there for most of the year (1-8 record prior to the NLDS).

Dating back to his rookie season in 2006, Ethier has been a part of eight different Dodgers teams that qualified for the playoffs — accumulating 131 plate appearances over 44 games during that timeframe.

Since 2013, Los Angeles has been eliminated four times in the postseason — twice times in the NLDS and twice in the NLCS. The club, seeking its first World Series appearance in 29 years, hopes to reverse that trend this year.

Unlike recent seasons, this year’s Dodgers team is guaranteed home-field advantage through the Fall Classic. That could be the difference maker, as seven of the previous 10 World Series winners had the home-field edge.

As for Ethier, this season may be his last with the Dodgers. He was included on the NLDS roster as a left-handed bat off the bench, and walked in his only plate appearance against the Diamondbacks.

Cubs likely to start Quintana in Game 1
by Matthew Moreno | Dodger Blue — 1 hour ago

The Chicago Cubs remain alive in the playoffs but face a dilemma similar to what the Arizona Diamondbacks encountered after advancing to face the Los Angeles Dodgers. Aiding the Cubs is depth in their starting rotation that the Diamondbacks did not have.

A rainout and postponement of Game 4 of the National League Division Series put the Cubs and Washington Nationals in a difficult position. That was magnified when the Nationals forced the series to a decided Game 5.

The Cubs started Kyle Hendricks and used Jose Quintana among several other relievers. The Nationals started Gio Gonzalez and called on Max Scherzer out of the bullpen.

While Quintana appeared in relief, he’s likely to start against the Dodgers on Saturday in Game 1 of the NL Championship Series, per Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times:

    Gordon Wittenmyer ✓@GDubCub
Jose Quintana expected to start Game 1 Saturday against Kershaw. Cubs
to finalize plans Friday. Theo said Thurs. relief like a side session.
    11:10 PM - Oct 12, 2017

Once Quintana entered the game at Nationals Park, it was widely believed John Lackey was earmarked to face the Dodgers in the NLCS opener if the Cubs were to advance. Lackey has yet to make his 2017 postseason debut.

As for Quintana, he went 5.2 innings against the Nationals last Monday. He retired two of four batters faced out of the bullpen on Thursday night, though only threw 12 pitches. The postseason experience is the first of his career, and Quintana has never pitched on one days’ rest.

He’s appeared on two days’ rest three times in his career, making one start. In the 2013 outing, Quintana suffered the loss as he allowed three runs on seven hits, including three home runs, walked one and struck out four in seven innings of work.

Roberts convinced Dodgers are in pretty good place
by Matthew Moreno | Dodger Blue — 90 minutes ago
    dr.png
The Los Angeles Dodgers finished the regular season with an MLB-best 104-58 record, which was timely as this year’s All-Star Game did not determine home-field advantage for the World Series.

So the Dodgers waited for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks to play the National League Wild Card Game, then watched as the Chicago Cubs and Washington Nationals played to Game 5 of a dragged-out NL Division Series.

“To be at home, watch games and see how things play out, we’re in a pretty good place,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said this week. His team held their first NL Championship Series workout at Dodger Stadium on Thursday night.

Corey Seager did not participate because of tweaking his back in Game 3 against the Diamondbacks, but he is expected to be in the lineup for NLCS Game 1 on Saturday. Los Angeles otherwise is in a favorable position.

They were adamant Clayton Kershaw would not start a potential Game 4 in the NLDS on short rest, and a sweep prevented any temptation leading to a change of direction, or needing him in Game 5. Now Kershaw will take the mound in Game 1 after last pitching Oct. 6.

On top of pushing Kershaw out of necessity last October, the Dodgers did not have home-field advantage in either of their playoff series.

“I think being able to set your rotation, not having to travel the first two games of the series, I think are huge advantages,” Roberts said. “To not have to wait for a team or figure out where we’re going to travel to, all those logistics. To be able to sit and wait for a team to come to Los Angeles, I think psychologically is a benefit as well. That’s a byproduct of having the season that we had.”

Whereas it was the Dodgers who played to a Game 5 in the NLDS on the road, then began the NLCS two days later, also on the road, that now has fallen on the Cubs.

Substitute Dusty for Otis. If it was for back luck, he wouldn't have no luck at all.

Wade Davis is wiping with his left hand today.

Talk about leaving it all out there. Looked like his final pitch was his best pitch of the game.

Very fortunate with the Contreras throw and replay review.

Quintana game 1 and probably Lester game 2? We’re gonna need Enrique/Logan to mash.

Granderson's done pretty well against both historically, so I don't know that I'd just go to Kike in this one. With his post season history and overall numbers against 4 of the 5 starters they may throw at LAD, Granderson's performance in this series could be a clear indicator of where he's at his career and in this season.

VS Lester: 59 plate appearances, .296/.339/.537
VS Quintana: 6 plate appearances, .250/.500/1.000
VS Arrieta: 40 plate appearances, .324/.375/.706
VS Lackey: 50 plate appearances, .233/.327/.442
Only guy that really handles Granderson is Hendricks: 11 plate appearances, .091/.091/.091
If Granderson can get going against Lester, Quintana and Arrieta and lengthen this lineup a tad more..but if Doc doesn't go to him VS these guys it'll say a lot

One of the flat out douchiest things I saw was from Rizzo, after a lucky, meek bloop hit, screaming "RESPECT ME! RESPECT ME"!
Weak, man...and are you fucking serious??

Idk, the way Granderson has been swinging and the way Enrique hits lefties, I would find it extremely hard to start Granderson over Enrique against a lefty. Enrique has 4 hits, including 2 home runs, in 14 at bats against Lester so I’d definitely go with him there and idk if 6 at bats between Quintana/Granderson would convince me to start Curtis

It was full of shit. He was mad that dusty didn’t walk him intentionally to face wilson Contreras (who is a pretty good hitter). It’s not like they faced Rizzo with the pitcher on deck! And yeah, Rizzo hit a fucking blooper, not some bomb

Cubbies will probably be playing loose as ever after that series + of course they already have a WS win in the bank.
Hopefully LAD isn't tight..come out play with edge and some nastiness
Mike Wilbon just doesn't even try to hide his hate for LAD Lol was hating the whole way through LAD's series win streak during the reg season

I agree on Quintana. Granderson has a sub .700 OPS against lefties for his career and this year, but it doesn't apply to all lefties. For some reason he mashes Lester

Gonna be an interesting call for the staff, no doubt.
We're talking OF numbers vs these guys..Puig's been bad against Lester and is 0 for against Quintana, has obviously struggled a lot VS LHP this season
Shit, the best offensive alignment VS Quintana/Lester could be Kike in RF/Granderson in LF, but it probably won't happen

As much as I enjoy PTI, I cant stand Wilbon and his Cub slurping. He said no matter who we faced we'd be destroyed.
