Uh oh, A plane crashed in the Gulf of Mexico and the tail number matches that of one owned by Roy Halladay. Very unfortunate as there is one confirmed death, but the identity has not been released.

In other BB news: Roy Halladay died in a plane crash! Yikes! Life is short so live every day, even if that means stealing $100 from your mom's purse, sneaking out of the basement and getting that first BJ from a FWucking Tranny on CL....

Free advice, 'cause we care for our own on DSP! ;)

For some reason I was shocked that he was only 40, I guess when I think of players retiring I age them 20 years. RIP.

He's been out of baseball for 4 years too.

Sad to hear this happened. A friend mentioned to me that baseball players seem to pass away too young in planes.

Horrendous. An absolute legend. Pitched like it was 1910 and he was fighting for dimes to feed his family.

    Very sad.

On another note, my old boss loves flying planes, and he had a single engine Cessna. He invited me to fly in his plane a few times, and I swear, those machines scare the crap out of me. They shake, can’t hear a thing (without headphones), a gust of wind pushes the plane around....it’s just not for me.

Later on he told me that flying back from a vacation with his family, the engine cut out and he was basically gliding until he could restart the engine. He did, but had to land at some regional landing strip. The engine was a mess apparently.

Needless to say, I respectfully declined any future opportunities to fly in those things.

    That’s just me.

Damn....that A5 makes my bosses plane look like a 747.

And landing is water must be really really tricky in something so light....a bad wave or swell....not sure how it will behave.

I understand Halladay's plane was found upside down in the water, no mayday message.

Diablo...you know what is amazing about your embedded video about the A5 is that as part of the video demo, the narrator talks about the box canyon issue, where a pilot find him/herself in a canyon where their only escape route is a sharp 180 degree turn back out from where they came in. In the video, they do continuous turns at a sharp bank angle where the stall warning keep squaking and the angle of attack of the wings are in the yellow....meaning to steep to the airflow to maintain any lift.

The video makes it sound like this plane is stall proof....even when their own warning systems are saying no-go.

Well, in the first fatal crash of the A5 not that long ago in Napa CA, the plane apparently entered a canyon that did not open up into a broader plain toward Lake Berryessa. Instead, the canyon closed up. Since they were at low altitude, they could only do a 180 flat turn to go out the way they came in.....they didn't make it.

The pilot....one of the plane's chief designers died along with an employee he was trying to familiarize the plane. There was evidence someone tried to pull the plane emergency parachute. Probably too low for it to work.

There are problems with trying to advertise something as "so safe" that anyone can do it. No....not anyone can do it. Whenever some car magazine says the 911 GT3 RS is excellent and take and drivable, switch to some idiot young rich asshole killing himself and his girlfriend by taking a curve to fast and then braking, and having the rear end swing out and killing both of them.

I'm not saying Halladay was the problem....but sometimes when you advertise something as super safe...people will believe you. Not everyone is a former F16 pilot or F1 racer or Ferrari test driver. But people might actually believe their vehicle of choice can do no harm.

Paul Walker and asshole "race driver friend" meet the Carrera GT and a light pole.

I've said it more than once, CGT's are dangerous to those with more dollars than sense and that P should have made owners get certified before buying them. Deathtraps in the wrong hands and those guys weren't the only ones I knew who died in them. Same goes for A LOT of the F car owners I know. To their minimal credit, at least most Lambo owners know their place in the pecking order of driver talent and buy them only to pop the doors and rev for high school girls at red lights.... and assuage their insecurities. ;)

I actually took the Pilota courses in Italy, believe it or not.

You are a luckier person than me. Would love to just go low speed in a Pagani Huayra. And I do mean low speed.
