?

If the Dodgers could acquire one player at the deadline, who would you prefer?

  1. Machado

    43.5%
  2. Front line starter (degrom, thor, et al)

    56.5%

Ryan Ludwick and some other ex cards are slinging Camrys to aging bros and their cougar wives.

    You walk away.
You only make the deal if they follow you.
At that point, there is no somewhere in between.
And the trade is all win for you.
If the guy does not follow you then it was probably not a trade for you.
If it was... you would not have let him walk away.

yeah that's not how it works
let's say you're willing to pay $100 for some pictures of kids
but you'd prefer to pay less so you can (still) buy groceries
    so you offer him $50
he'll probably say "come on rube" at which point you can say "look, all i've got is $75"
    that's negotiating

    disclaimer:
    dear authorities
    this was merely an example
i have no knowledge of rube's interest in illegal activities
and no actual children were used in the creation of this post

Miami has a big problem in your scenario there. LAD could just wait a year and go shopping with money, without giving up A level specs. That has to be established early in negotiations..that you're helping them, but not to the point of unloading specs with superstar ceilings to get a guy when there will be 4 or 5 MVP caliber guys in next year's FA crop. The market will always play it's part.

The Dodgers can wait it out, the only question is how long Stanton will wait. If he really wants to be a Dodger then he might be ok with waiting it out, because accepting a trade to SF pretty much means he will never be a Dodger.

The only hitch with going after harper/machado/arenado is that they will command more than stanton.....possibly 10mm/ year more...and Miami knows this

He should have never signed that stupid contract.he would’ve been a free agent this off-season and cashed in big, with the team of his choice

We're now at a point where I've seen SFG fans that have turned on Stanton because he wants LAD so bad. He'd never get any splash HRs @ SFG anyway since all he does is hit low line drive oppo HRs when he goes to RF, so he's not even a match for their park with that highish wall there. No Stanton splash.

That's not a hitch, that's maybe the future price of Harper and possibly Machado as well, likely not the price of Donaldson and Blackmon, and Arenado isn't even a free agent after next season. Also, another year down the road means another chunk of salary coming off of LAD's payroll as well as an opportunity to either shed Kershaw completely after he opts out, or to bring his AAV down 5-10M per in his new deal. So while trying for a cheaper Stanton is a good idea, should they choose to wait, their flexibility moving forward beyond next season will be just fine too. There is little to no leverage at all to be had here for Jeter, that's why they resorted to threatening Stanton that they'd just keep him in Miami.

I have a feeling that if this FO doesn't want Stanton at the price he is at now, the chances of them going after any of the big names next year are slim to none as they'll be significantly more expensive and locked up just as long if not longer.

I just read that some East Coast teams are very upset about Ohtani's recruiting process, and that it wasn't fair for them to have to work so hard when he had already decided to play on the West Coast.

I have an open message to all of them...

Don't worry, ESPN will suck your balls and lick your anus all year long to make you feel better.

    My preferred Ohtani destinations

    1) Dodgers
    2) Angels, Mariners, Rangers
    3) Giants or Padres
    4) Cubs

    My preferred Stanton destinations

    1) Stays in Miami for a year (see if we can get Harper)
    2) Cardinals
    3) Giants (as long as they don’t also get Ohtani)
    4) Dodgers

    My preferred Darvish destination

    1) Dodgers

Well that would suppose that Donaldson and Balckmon are on the same level as Stanton......which I do not believe they are. Both are over 30 and I am not convinced that Blackmon's stats are not a product of Coors, look at his splits. You are correct Arenado is not a FA till 2020, side note Trout is a FA in 2021. So MGT could wait till then, as both are on par with Stanton IMO. However I can guarantee you that Harper/Machado/Arennado/Trout will have AAV's of over $30MM. Lets also remember that Kershaw is living on borrowed time. He is entering his 10th year and not may pitchers retain their dominance longer than that. MGT needs to get Kershaw help......whether that is a bat in Stanton or a #2 in Ohtoni, MGT needs to do something cuz Kershaw maybe has 3 more years in him.

So the eyeball test last year means nothing??? He choked when it mattered most. Yes he was good against Chicago(6 inn 1ER), ok against AZ(5 inn 1ER). He was average after MGT traded for him at the deadline. Of the 9 games he pitched 2 were terrible, 4 were avearge, and 3 were good. As well where would you put him? I would rather give Urias/Behuler/Alvarez a shot or if we lose out on Ohtoni maybe try for Archer. I was all for him at the deadline despite his struggles in July. But seeing him after the trade....No Thank you. MGT already has a pitcher that can't seem to get things done in the post season. Don't need another one.
