  2. Front line starter (degrom, thor, et al)

According to heyman, Dodgers offered a similar contract to Yu that was six years over 100 mil and it was close to the Cubs offer, but who knows if it’s real or if it’s the Dodgers spreading stuff.

well if thats true then we should be able to grab Jake
in truth i'd take him for 4/90 or something but we NEED a stud in that rotation
cub fan talking like they will sign both of these guys
i know he's older etc. but fuck lets push this over the top already

    trade for archer
    sign lynn or cobb
but i prefer jake and his pedigree even if he's on the downside
isn't he a year older than yu?
and his conditioning is hard to question
but cub fan friends say he's breaking down and losing control

Really wanted Darvish back like some others, but have to admit he definitely landed where he was needed most. LAD is projected to win 99 games without him. Shit, LAD hardly even needs Kershaw to win a bunch of games, think we've seen that the last couple years, so won't be whining about Darvish, just figure out another route to strengthen the post chances. Could just wait for July and hit the trade market/deadline for a starter like the last couple years..or fall back to Arrieta or Cobb here..or Buehler and/or Wood will take the challenge. Either way, if our best players finally play their best when it matters most, they'll win the WS. If they don't, they won't.

Players are pissed too, all around the league
They're saying Arrieta doesnt even have an offer
Market correction on full display, owners tired of paying major money for guys' declining years and not looking to hike up the bar with next off-season already looking like a historical event
Players have been winning for a while though

Socialism kicked us in the ass this off season.

Wish Darvish nothing but the worst on the field.

What is weird is that the front office’s strategy the past years has been to not sign the front line starter and instead rely on a mid season trade for a starter. I guess it’s worked cause Hill and Darvish helped us but at some point, it’d be nice to be able to keep the prospect(s) and have the guy signed already ya kno? The narrative or wtv behind this FO has been that they hoard prospects but I think it’s kinda the opposite. Idk

This sucks, but I am not totally bummed about... am pissed it is the fucking Cubs again pilfering our former players. Paying a guy into his age 37 season over $20M a year seems like a risky endeavor, but he does have the build/track record of someone who should age well.

Now people are saying that the Dodgers weren't close to the Cubs offer AND their offer was contingent on them moving some salary which they have been completely unable to do. I fully believe now that teams are refusing to have any hand in helping the Dodgers out, even at the potential of hurting themselves in the process. There is already speculation that the Dodgers have their hands in a couple of different pots for young controllable pitchers, but it seems far-fetched that they will do anything before the season starts. This is practically the same rotation that had them in first place at the deadline last season, only with one of the top pitching prospects in baseball knocking at the door.

I’m bummed but the price and length of that contract is bonkers. Do we need SPs. Yes. But the prize is next year in the FA market.

I said it before, the FO is setting up for 2019. They are crossing their fingers on 2018.

Yeah, I am in the same boat. When they have signed pitchers to be focal points in the rotation, it has completely blown up in their faces(not to mention, the ones they have missed out on have not been much better) aside from Hill thus far. I think they hoard the prospects they are confident in, but the ones with a smidgen of doubt are sent away. De Leon has crashed and burned, the 3 in the Reds deal are fairly meh(it took the back injury to make the deal look bad), Calhoun is a DH so they dealt from position of strength, the A's deal looks like a big win after Cotton crashed back down to earth, the Braves deal was a ransacking and the Lee for Taylor deal was a massacre. I don't think I am missing anything(let me know if I have) and the guys they have insisted holding on to have all turned into solid to great major leaguers. They hoard, but they are pretty particular on who it is they're hoarding, gotta believe that teams are catching on.

Honestly, good riddance to Yu and his second worst pitching performance in WS history. I’m thrilled, now we can feast off him in the post.

Happy we didn't sign him to that bullshit contract. We will be fine with pitching, a deadline trade will fix this shit for the post season. Better than Darvish was for sure. Regular season we are good to go. Deadline deals will ready us for the big post season games, unless we get another deadline pick up turned WS choker like Darvish was.
