I am hoping that we have seen the last of Ferguson this year where maybe he can get back to AAA and start working on more of an assortment of secondary pitches, but there are some really interesting numbers from his short stint in the Bigs.

    Four-seam fastball whiff/swing, left-handed starters in 2018, min 50 thrown
    1. Gio Gonzalez 30.4%
    2. J.A. Happ, 29.4%
    3. Chris Sale, 29.2%
    4. Hyun-jin Ryu, 29.1%
    5. Caleb Ferguson, 28.6%

Lowest in-zone contact rate, all starters, min 10 IP
    1. Max Scherzer 74.8%
    2. Caleb Ferguson 76.0%
    3. Chris Sale 77.8%

Now this is certainly, totally, fully a small sample size, but it gives us a glimpse of why he is so dominant in the minors with only a FB and Curve. He has a really damned good fastball and that curve is pretty stellar too. If he can find a way to make that change serviceable and potentially a slider to be an in-between for his FB and curve, he has potential to be really fucking good. Just depends on how well he can grasp those other pitches.

If not, then he might be the reliever we need with those two great pitches.

According to Eric Stephen, a shit load of 11-40 picks have signed, but almost no bonuses are reported (except those mentioned above), assume most are at or below $125K. The exception being Jacob Gilliland (32nd round prep arm).

    Eric Stephen‏@ericstephen
Dodgers say they have signed four more draft picks, including 6th-round LHP Brian Warzek and 11th-rd RHP Stephen Kolek
    -----------------
I suspect that Warzek will be another under-slot, and Kolek probably a little over.

    DODGERS MINOR LEAGUE REPORT
Bannon stays hot, homers again in Quakes victory
by Ryan Walton/Craig Minami | True Blue LA — 4 hours ago
    RB.png
Sunday’s action for the Dodgers’ minor league system included wins in just two of the five games and a rainout in Tulsa.

    PLAYER OF THE DAY
Rylan Bannon takes the honor for the second straight day, going 2-for-2 with a homer and two walks. The 2017 eighth-rounder is now hitting .300/.406/.592 with 17 homers and 51 RBIs in 70 games this season.

    TRIPLE-A OKLAHOMA CITY
The Dodgers were blanked by old friend Trevor Oaks and the Omaha Storm Chasers (Royals) Sunday in an 8-0 loss. The former Dodger struck out seven while allowing just four hits and a walk in six scoreless innings. All eight runs were charged to right-hander Tyler Pill as Omaha launched three homers off the 28-year-old. Infielder Humberto Arteaga delivered the final blow with a grand slam in the fifth to put the game out of reach. Andrew Toles had two of the five hits for the Dodgers on the day.

    DOUBLE-A TULSA
Sunday’s game between the Drillers and the Northwest Arkansas Naturals (Royals) was postponed due to rain. The teams will now play a doubleheader during the Naturals next trip to Tulsa, August 28-31.

    CLASS-A RANCHO CUCAMONGA
The Quakes used three late homers to secure a 6-2 win over the San Jose Giants. Cody Thomas and Rylan Bannon each chipped in solo shots while Hamlet Marte clubbed one of the two-run variety. Both starting pitchers didn’t allow a run on the day and the game was scoreless until Thomas hit his homer in the sixth. 24-year-old Anthony Gonsolin pitched five scoreless innings for the Quakes, scattering four hits and two walks while striking out nine. Rancho Cucamonga is 3-1 in the second half after they already secured a first-half division win in the California League.

    CLASS-A GREAT LAKES
Trailing 4-1 heading to the final frame, the Loons scored a pair on a two-run double off the bat of Darrell Miller Jr. to cut the deficit to one. The rally would fall short for the Loons as they left the tying run on third, falling by the score of 4-3 to the Lansing Lugnuts (Blue Jays). Outfielder Brayan Morales hit his third homer of the season for Great Lakes, going 3-for-4 on the day.

    ROOKIE (PIONEER LEAGUE)
The Raptors lost a slugfest to the Grand Junction Rockies by a score of 8-7 in Ogden. The two teams combined for 10 extra-base hits, including four homers. Three of the homers belonged to the Raptors, with a three-run shot for outfielder Niko Hulsizer and a two-run smash for 19-year-old shortstop Ronny Brito. Grand Junction scored the deciding run in the eighth inning when Daniel Montano’s RBI-single cashed in Grant Lavigne from third after Lavigne tripled.

    ROOKIE (ARIZONA LEAGUE)
The AZL Dodgers cruised past the AZL Royals in a 6-1 win Sunday. Dodger pitching held the Royals to just two hits and worked around six walks. Outfielder Drew Avans — the Dodgers 33rd-round selection in the 2018 draft — contributed three hits and knocked in a pair.

    TRANSACTIONS
Double-A: Tulsa released outfielder Tyler Colvin.
Low-A/Rookie: Third baseman Luke Heyer was assigned to Great Lakes from Ogden

I've been insanely busy with work and getting ready for the vacation that I am finally taking(Hi from Portland, btw!) so I have been ignoring this for a while.
    - On the heels of another Gonsolin strong performance, I recently chatted with an MLB prospect guy about him and the reports were not glowing. Apparently he is getting by in HiA by just being incredibly overpowering and nothing really else. FB is pretty flat and all his secondary pitches scream reliever. The guy I talked to mentioned that he is probably not even a back-end reliever right now, which explains the org using him as a starter to work on his other stuff. Bummer, after the reports of last season I would have loved to have seen what this kid was capable of at the higher levels.

    - Bannon is starting to build intrigue as he was prospect who could hit, but not hit for power. If the power surge is real and he shows it at AA, he could shoot up prospect charts.

What is up with Wil Smith? This just a power surge for the week or something else?

    DODGERS MINOR LEAGUE REPORT
Cody Thomas hits 10th home run in Quakes win
by David Hood | True Blue LA — 2 hours ago
    CT copy.png
Big nights for home runs and offense on the farm, but few wins produced at the upper levels of the system.

    PLAYER OF THE DAY
Cody Thomas hit his tenth home run of the year to reach double digit home runs in a season for the third time in his career. While Thomas is not presently on pace to match last year’s total of 20, he’s making more consistent hard contact, already matching last year’s double mark and exceeded his triples tally. Thomas has also hit .300 over his last ten games despite 16 strikeouts.

    TRIPLE-A OKLAHOMA CITY
Oklahoma City had 14 hits but could only produce five runs in a 8-5 loss to the Round Rock Express (Rangers). Alex Verdugo led the offense with three hits in five at bats. Kyle Farmer also had a pair of doubles in five at bats, while Breyvic Valera added a single and double in a losing effort. Kyle Lobstein took the loss after allowing five runs in 3.1 innings of work. Ariel Hernandez (1.2 innings) and Josh Sborz (one) held the Dodgers close with scoreless outings in relief.

    DOUBLE-A TULSA
Tulsa could not overcome a pair of rough innings in falling to the Midland Rockhounds (Athletics) 7-3. Andrew Istler took the start in what turned out to be a bullpen day, lasting 3.2 innings while holding the Rockhounds scoreless. Michael Johnson took the loss in relief, allowing four runs in the fifth and three in the six before exiting. DJ Peters hit his 17th home run of the season, and third in four games. He is now hitting .344 over his last ten games. Yusniel Diaz also homered, his fifth of the season. Zach Reks had a pair of hits, including a double, to lead the offense.

    CLASS-A RANCHO CUCAMONGA
The Quakes broke a scoreless tie in the eighth inning and padded their lead in the ninth to defeat the San Jose Giants 3-1. Omar Estevez started the scoring with his sixth home run of the season. Cody Thomas added insurance with his tenth home run of the year in the ninth inning. Connor Wong also had a pair of hits. Leo Crawford might have had his best start in his pro career. Crawford allowed just one hit over seven scoreless innings, striking out seven. Zach Pop continued his dominance over the California League with a scoreless ninth inning, recording his seventh save.

    CLASS-A GREAT LAKES
The Loons could must just five hits in a 7-0 loss to the Fort Wayne TinCaps (Padres). Devin Mann paced the offense with two trips on base, one via walk. Devin Morales also had a hit to extend his hitting streak to eight games. Andre Jackson struggled to start the game, lasting just 1.2 innings and allowing four runs. Darien Nunez was the only Loons’ reliever to hold the TinCaps scoreless, striking out two over two innings of work.

    SHORT SEASON OGDEN
The Raptors enjoyed their trip to Grand Junction, knocking out 22 runs with 21 hits to beat the Rockies 21-7. Miguel Vargas led all Raptors with a perfect four for four game, with three doubles, a triple, and three runs driven in. Dillon Paulson also had three extra base hits with two doubles and a home run, while Ronny Brito also homered, doubled, and singled. The Raptors’ pitchers were solid even without the aid of the offense. Joel Inoa allowed just one earned run over five innings, striking out five and walking one. Justin Hagenman, Gregorio Sequera, and Reza Aleaziz each pitched a scoreless inning in relief.

    ROOKIE LEVEL ARIZONA
The Dodgers saw a lead slip late only to walk off the Padres Two 9-8 in eleven innings. Aaron Ackerman led the way with three hits in six at bats, including his first professional home run. Jon Littell also had a pair of hits including a triple. Brayden Fisher was much better in his second professional outing, holding the Padres scoreless over 1.2 innings, striking out one. Orlandy Navarro was the only reliever to hold the Padres scoreless, keeping them from doing further damage in the eleventh inning to allow for the Dodgers to walk off winners in the bottom half of the inning.

    DOMINICAN SUMMER LEAGUE
The DSL Dodgers Robinson lost to the DSL Astros 3-1. Luis Yanel Diaz had a pair of hits and run scored.
The DSL Dodgers Guerrero lost to the DSL Pirates Two 7-1. Amin Valdez and Jaime Perez each went 2-4.

    TRANSACTIONS
    Triple-A:
The Dodgers activated OF Travis Taijeron from the inactive list, also receiving RHP Zach Neal via trade from the big league club. Double-A: To make room for Neal in Triple-A, RHP Layne Somsen was sent back to Tulsa. The Drillers also placed RHP Parker Curry on the Inactive List.
    Class-A:
2B Deacon Liput was assigned to the Loons. 2B Moises Perez was placed on the disabled list.

Quick draft update, it appears that 1st round pick JT Ginn won't sign, they will get pick #31 in 2019 (slot value $2.224M).

Wow... I would never advise a HS pitcher to take college over first round pick money. The chances of him regretting this decision are far far higher than it working out.

Yea, oh well, it's his life. Gives the Dodgers a chance to get creative next year, maybe take a big bonus guy as they will likely also be getting a comp pick for Grandal signing elsewhere. (the price tag on that is ~$800k or so)

Yeah, I’m not freaking out about this from a Dodgers standpoint. They’ve shown they can recover well from instances like this in the past. I’m more coming at it from a players point of view. Whomever he is looking at for guidance in this process just led him wrong.
