Wish I was a soccer fan. Can't get into it. Too much dead action in the middle of the field and not enough around the net. Don't care for the excessive flopping, either.

Both of my bloodlines (two generations back) Croatia and Belgium are still alive.

Can't get into it either. Not just the dead action and excessive flopping, but even before all that the whole not being able to use your hands is just a turn off. Don't really use your hands in hockey either, but at least hockey is fast paced with action all over and truly physical with an element of football in there.

Man, TBT, what the soccer fans are doing in the stands might be more exciting than what's going on with the players on the field..at least for me. I'll give soccer fans their due, they're willing to die out there. Lol What are they called again? Hooligans? They're at the top of the fan food chain, for sure.

Playing it for many years gave me an appreciation of the sport but I completely get it that it's not a fantastic spectator sport. The feigning of injury was never as bad as it has been in the last decade. I get disgusted when I see it but I try not to let it affect my watching of the game.

the more you watch the more you get that in a competitive match they need to breath
a lot of the extra time down is just letting guys catch their breath
and if you watch some of the shots they take that shit has to hurt
say what you want about neymar etc but that guy also gets his ass beat down out there

I am by no means a soccer expert or a lover of soccer (don't get any ideas Irish....my bad, probably too late).

But seeing my older son play soccer for the better part of 7 years now, I can appreciate how good teams can win using various styles of play, defensive minded teams, teams with good play makers and setup men in the midfield, or offensive minded teams with strikers from the midfield on up. It's fascinating the strategy involved depending upon style of teams, players on the team, and tackling on opposing team and their style of play.

I think soccer is one of those sports like golf where there are long extended periods of nothing, but punctuated with short bursts of hope....where a 1-0 game can pivot on an excellent series of passes leading to a well timed goal, or after what seems like an eternity of nothing, it comes down to PKs.

In a lot of ways, it's a perfect drinking sport....slowly get smashed over a long period, culminating in an orgasm of celebration.

I can also understand why soccer is so popular amongst the lower rung of wealth in the rest of the world.....all you need is one ball, or resemblance of a ball.....a reasonable field....grass optional, lines not necessary.....and no refs...drink and be merry, for a couple of hours at least.

The fact that soccer is an upper middle class to upper class sport in the US (generalizing) is probably a good reason to understand why we stuck at soccer.

Not my cup of get it.

This guy was a bad ass in his time. From my part of the state. Ended up on an elevator with him around the time he was playing for Oregon St. Needless to say he filled up the elevator. Hotel was that circular Holiday Inn just off the 405 near UCLA. We were playing the Bruins in baseball they were playing SC and the Bruins in hoops.

It is, the original Britain where all people from the northwester French coast.
Coincidentally the land these people had was called Armorica.
And the Welsh and other islanders called them the Llydaw which can be pronounced Judah.
    So they are coming home!

No actually a tad more recent, deferring to our history buffs, though your point remains.

Yeah that was a pretty fair demonstration of who's in charge.

The whole French team looked talented
