Dodgers claim Rosscup from Rockies, DFA Paredes
by Jeff Todd | MLB Trade Rumors — 2 minutes ago

The Dodgers announced today that they have claimed lefty Zac Rosscup off waivers from the Rockies. In a corresponding move, the club designated fellow southpaw Edward Paredes for assignment.

Rosscup, 30, racked up ten strikeouts without a walk in seven frames last year in Colorado, but had yet to reach the majors this year while working back from finger troubles. He has been effective in limited action at Triple-A, allowing just one earned run on four hits while registering nine strikeouts against three walks in 8 1/3 innings.

The 31-year-old Paredes, meanwhile, managed an 8:2 K/BB ratio but also allowed five runs in his 7 2/3 frames in the majors this year. He has also experienced some walk problems at the Triple-A level, however, issuing 15 free passes in 18 frames.

The offense has cooled a bit this week, but I think everyone is looking at it frustratingly after that Angels series loss(a series they win if Jansen closes the door game 1). The 3 guys you mentioned seem to be turning things around somewhat. Turner is starting to heat up (.327/.435/.519, 3 HR's over his last 16), Taylor's overall #'s are roughish on the surface though he has an .861 OPS over the last 2+ months(more than what many of us were asking for after his dreadful start) and even with not so eye-popping numbers, something is changing with Belli. Only has 9 K's in his last 65 PA's, which for him is some sort of miracle. I wonder if they are trying the same approach with him as they did with Joc where it was find a way to get the bat on the ball for a couple weeks and then turn it up(they did this with Puig last year too). These guys starting to get things going would be great going forward, but man I would love to add a Dozier, Gennett or Machado to the lineup for a little more stability.

They have a little wiggle room due to Maeda and Koehler’s injuries not letting them reach incentives that they otherwise would have

Heyman reporting that the Yankees have made a strong offer for Machado, though it is not clear if they are the favorite.

I hate the Yankees. I hope they choke on a bat.

We never emerge victorious on these free for alls, because we have many "untouchables", and of course, they are the best out there, so naturally teams want them in trade for their superstars. Seems valid reasoning.
But simply, other teams want them more, and are willing to part with more.
In my expert psychoanalytic opinion, this comes from the malaise created by the now boring and vastly overdone satisfaction of the profit brought from consistent "elite" status.
Plus, winning a world championship with players who are actually capable of doing so, is boring. Please do not forget the well known genius status of those pushing the buttons.
It is much more challenging to win with cheaper, oft-injured, reclamation project types...much more satisfying...for that glorious feeling of insolence...should it ever work.
    It doesn't however.
    Catch 22.

The last 2 years they’ve traded for 2 rentals who were both the best pitchers traded at the deadline.

Justus Sheffield is said not to be in the offer. This is the NYY pitching prospect the O's are said to covet the most.

For the life of me, I have no idea why the O’s would even consider giving MM to the Yankees and make someone in the AL East even stronger.

But I’ve eaten food past the expiration date when I was desperately hungry, so I guess the FO can do stupid things too.

    A) the best? Totally a matter of opinion...
    B) obviously, the wrong choices, since they certainly don't have the winning touch, no matter matter who they got
    C) compounded mistake moves by awarding millions for basic failure
However, if you feel they have been right in what they have done, your prerogative.
    Not mine.

Random feeling, Machado is dealt today. Way too much smoke the last 48 hours and things seemed to be getting pretty serious today with very specific names getting mentioned over and over.

Something that could cause a hiccup from the Dodgers is what is happening with Will Smith right now. I can’t imagine he stays in AA much longer with what he is doing and if he gets the call to OKC after their ASB, he’s a good half a season run away from being in the conversation for starting catcher next year. Depends on what the team sees, but his bat being legit is the difference between him being a middle of the pack catcher, to a first division starter. If the team feels he is close, it could cause them to try to send out other pieces.
