If the Dodgers could acquire one player at the deadline, who would you prefer?

  1. Machado

    43.5%
  2. Front line starter (degrom, thor, et al)

    56.5%

NY Mets what a debacle they are!!! Losing THAT badly in the top of the 7th. All this talk about we want to build around this core pitching and Matz gives up 7 in 2/3 of an inning. Angels Tyler Skaggs gave up 10 to the Rays

The common denominator is that some people are from the country where fucking your cousin and eating your boogers is prevalent and some people are from the city where fucking dudes and eating junk food is prevalent.
I bet you Cueto is from a 'country' part of his country. Like Kershaw.

I was more referring to Dozier, but I think Axford is salvageable. The Blue Jays have been doing something really strange with him - he threw fastballs 60% of the time in 2016, this year he has thrown them 11% of the time. He still throws 95. I am sort of a Friedman believer so that may be coloring some of my optimism, but I think he has the potential to be an asset. Of course, I said that exact thing about Hudson and i’ve never been more wrong, so we’ll see. But I really feel good about the FO acting this decisively at the deadline. And Thank God logan is out of here.

1, I can see. 2, I'm unsure of. He had the episode earlier in the season where Roberts was flat out wrong, the whole he wasn't running hard thing where he slipped out of the box and didn't want to be out at 3B, but beyond that, Bellinger's work ethic has been celebrated. Pretty much worked his ass off to make it to Top 5 spec status in MiLB. Some young players, some we know very well, made all star games early in their careers and started gorging and being late or barely on time for practice and pre-game, pissing teammates off for various reasons, etc. But he made the all star game last year, was the toast of the NL and immediately got into the weight room after last season was over to prepare for this season. So it doesn't seem like his problems stem from feeling like he doesn't have to do the work. I think he would've been demoted a long time ago if he weren't working at it.

He looks bad and needs to adjust, no doubt, but one of his biggest enemies right now is expectations I believe, one reason why I'm glad they went out and got Machado and Dozier, some established mid-top order guys that can move him back a little in the order and let him fly below the radar for a tick. Let him breathe. Let him hit with runners on more often and see some more straight stuff. His energy carried this group for a good portion of last year, they can return the favor while he's battling a tough soph campaign. All in all, if he can just hang in there and finish around an .800 OPS with 25 or so HRs, have to take it, take the lessons learned and just move to the next year. Granted, don't know if he'll do either of those things at this rate, but we can do a hell of a lot worse in that scenario, especially given his + glove all over the field. Roberts is a shitty manager, so getting a better manager in place could help, but would a better manager allow the nerds their various manipulation/methods? Maybe Utley would given his existing relationship with ownership? Utley may be the perfect candidate.

    1. He dogged it. I trust Roberts on that.

    2. Seeing more "fast stuff" isn't necessarily a fix. He can't touch a decent fastball at the top of zone. He's a fucking messing at this point and the manager has nothing to do with it. That said, I think Bellinger has the work ethic to find his way out of this funk.

    I'm glad somebody trusts Roberts

I don't think seeing more straight stuff is the fix, but it can help. Having a better idea of when the FB is coming can be an advantage. Going down to AAA isn't necessarily going to fix him either, but it can help so it should be an option. The work ethic is certainly there if we're to believe the scouting reports on him coming up

Worked for Joc and Puig in the past. Who's to say it wouldn't work for Bellinger?

So uh, the Nats DFA’d Shawn Kelley today cause he threw a temper tantrum. He’s been meh this year but has been good the past 2 months and I wouldn’t mind the Dodgers trying to get him

And the depth seems to be stronger than ever so if they wanted to send him down they could no prob. As for Puig and fat Joc, I get the comp, but we should want better results from Belli. Want him coming back better than an above average platoon guy.

this is what happens when a team that's relied in large part on solo hr's slumps
no idea how to put together a rally
    feast or famine

The depth is as deep as it ever was...so true.
And yet...can we score even three runs or a reasonable facsimile?
    Doesn't seem like it.
I guess even with that going on...it may help Bellinger to go down and try and get something back.
But is it really a thing contingent on depth, or just do it if he needs it kind of thing...with so many offensive holes, he's just another auto out.
    One of several.

We have depth for him to go down on the farm and come back like Joc and Puig, a platoon hitter that kills vs lefties even if he continues to struggle vs righties.

    2B: Dozier
    SS: Machado
    3B: Turner
    LF: Kemp
    C : Grandal/Barnes
    1B: Muncy/Bellinger
    CF: Joc/Taylor
    RF: Puig/Kike

You may be as right as rain, but at this juncture in his career, I find it hard to believe he is thought of by the powers as a platoon player. No way.
And damn, Rube...any reason to make a lineup. You've got that particular disease, I think...as bad as those of us who have the Wrong Thread Post affliction.
    Lol.

    dozier:
“You’re going to get 100% from me, whether it’s off the bench, playing every day, whatever the case may be.
I made sure [Roberts] knew that.
Whatever I can do to help this ballclub win and get to the postseason and have a chance to win the World Series, I’m all for it.”

    translation...
“Play me, sit me, IDGAF. I have zero invested in this team.
I made sure [Roberts] knew that.
Whatever I can do to increase my free agent stock, I’m all for it.”
