Even while the team had been winning earlier in the season, the word out of Philly was that Kapler was doing a really bad job. It also sounds like he is not super well liked in the clubhouse. Would not be shocked if he is one and done there and they try to get someone that is well liked to lure Manny and/or Bryce. Dusty Baker would not be a shock.

    money and/or vindictiveness
go after him middle of the season, he's likely free to play in the post
hit him now [no pun], and at the very least it causes disharmony with the media -- and possibly in the cubs clubhouse
once played ball with a guy who kept slapping his girl around
pulled him aside one day and said, "dude, what the fuck is wrong with you?!!! just fucken walk away if you get pissed!!!"
couple days later he was a no show for a game
girl's brother beat the fuck out of him and we never saw his punk ass again
    fucker got what he deserved

Sometimes the guy who thinks he's the smartest man in the room really isn't.

That said, the ballsack tanner is still learning on the job.

Michael gave him a plane ticket to Vegas and Clemenza took care of the rest.

Data aka Facts only get you so far.
That is knowledge and it is great.
But if you have knowledge and you don't have wisdom... you have nothing.
Which is why all the facts, data, and analytics in the world can never win you a championship.
You need people with wisdom at the helm and manning the lead oars.
Please give us Utley next year.
Because if we don't jump on him the Phillies will fire Kapler as soon as the season is over and try to hire Utley as their manager.
And Kapler might end up right back here as 3B coach or something.

any asshat that hits a girl gets what he deserves so theres that
but clearly she meant to hurt him as badly as she could
could have just been a missed birthday for one of his two kids w different women
for the cubs its not a big loss though since he has not been a factor this year
and they went out and got murphy

Whatever he is, the Nerds must have liked him when they were putting it all together, eh?
As posted, I would like to see Utley hired in some capacity by us, even if he is not immediately new manager.
I think Dave comes back though. Yup.

As much as we would like to have him hired in some capacity he's going to spend alot of time with his family. Chase hasn't been there seeing his kids grow up for most of his career.

So Strop out for the season, Morrow out for the season and now Addision Russells who has had a stormy relationship with his then wife and now ex-wife was just put on administrative leave.

Great analysis, Kid. Do you think Lux's enormous strides this year will factor in to whether they pass on the Manny sweepstakes, or not?

Personally, I look at that list of soon-to-be FA's and for a change, I wouldn't be bummed if they're all gone. That said, I'd prefer to see Ryu come back if the price is right. Grandal is replaceable. Maybe not the power numbers but the glove for sure as well as the "situational hitting" bat.

Regarding Kershaw, my gut says that he won't opt out, because they'll agree on an extension prior. At least I hope so.

lol, whenever someone says they're not trying to make an excuse... that's exactly what they're doing

    DOZIER:
“It’s been a constant struggle to fire into my front side,” he said of the limitations caused by his knee pain. “It gets irritating. But that’s just the way it is and you find ways around it. Firing into my front side is the way my swing works, creating power and leverage and space and all that kind of stuff. The thing now is to keep firing into the front side so that I pull my weight into it as I make that transition. But that’s by no means trying to make an excuse. It feels great right now. You just develop bad habits in your swing when stuff like that happens. You try to find ways around it. I’ve never made excuses I just try to go out there and play.”

Well excuse or not, if I'm reading it right, he's also saying this is a thing of the past. So he has 9 games to show that he can hit like the team expected him to when the made the trade. Otherwise, he shouldn't even be on the playoff roster, let alone be the starting second baseman (assuming we get there).

Sources are saying #Dodgers[IMG] will likely offer Kershaw an extension in lieu of him opting out and re-negotiating on the open market but the chances of re-signing Machado are not good

Does this mean the FO will go after Bryce? Or are they looking for “value” again.

I do think it will impact what they look at for 2B in terms of long term. The reviews on him are incredibly good and the outlook has turned into that of an all star middle infielder. I could see him getting a similar timetable as Seager did his last year in the minors. He should start the year in AA and if he continues to crush, he gets a May-June promotion to AAA. Let him work on things there and get close to finishing out the season. If he puts up anything close to what he did this year, he gets the Sept call with the shot to take 2B over. It is interesting, I remember reading someone last year that said he and some other scouts felt that Lux was Seager 2.0. Even after his struggles, there was feeling that he was going to come out of it all the better(I personally did not see this coming). Fingers crossed this kid keeps it going cause him pairing hopefully with a healthy Seager and a past his sophomore slump Bellinger, would be the makings of a killer core IF.

Comerica Park worker fired after video shows him spitting on pizza
ESPN | Associated Press — 94 minutes ago

DETROIT -- A food service worker at Comerica Park in Detroit has been fired after a video was posted online allegedly showing him spitting on a pizza.

WXYZ-TV reports the video was visible on Instagram over the weekend and shows an employee spitting on the pizza intended for customers. WWJ-AM reports officials at the home of the Detroit Tigers determined the video was recorded Friday, when the team hosted the Kansas City Royals.

Detroit Sportservice, which provides food service at the ballpark, said in a statement that it "immediately closed that food stand and disposed of all the product." It says food safety is the "top priority" and that it will take any appropriate action to protect guests.

Detroit police officer Dan Donakowski told The Associated Press on Monday that the 20-year-old was taken into custody Sunday, two days after security officials at the ballpark reported the incident.

Spokeswoman Maria Miller said Monday that the Wayne County prosecutor's office is reviewing possible charges against the man.
