My dad and step-mom live (lived?) in Paradise, CA. The whole town was destroyed by fire, their house is probably gone, but they don't know yet. Fortunately they got out of town and my other relatives up there got out as well.

The one statement that rang particularly true, imo, amongst the usual paeans, is that " he was a true American original". And that is something to be, like a working class hero.
I think they have been doing that for a while now and its part of what was making his life miserable.
Horrifying. Really horrifying the idea of decent people getting reamed who can't/don't wrap their minds around the vigilance necessary to stave off the malicious crows. Even more horrifying when that involves spouses or family members.
