That's what happens when you put financiers in charge of a team. It's about ROI, not championships. Keep the seats filled....create excitement, but never let the numbers go in the red.

It is just a different mindset from the owners that really invest their life and livelihood on the success of the team they own.

so... not being of a mood to await an engraved invitation.. and also somewhat fearful of what @irish might engrave

two college students were attending a small town football game
and an asshat sitting in front of them was screaming obscenities at players, fans, peanut vendors etc the whole game
they endured because it was a public stadium and WTF could you do anyways other than start a bigger scene
home team wins and crowd disperses but since it's a small town there are only so many places to go after hours
some choose bars, others the legendary local donut house or the other local legend, a soft yogurt shop (small town)
the two students choose the local yogurt shop and are standing in a long line waiting their turn to order
in walks said loudmouth, joins the line behind them and starts loudly taunting people in line causing another scene
the two finally reach the counter, order their yogurts and as they pay one of them slaps down a benjie, reaches out with a 2nd one and hands it to the server and then asks for the manager. When she brings the manager over the kid hands him a 3rd C note and says "see this loudmouth behind me?" They nod yes. He states "I'm going to walk outside and if I see him leave with any yogurt I'm going to buy this store before noon tomorrow and shut it down" "your jobs will be gone and I'll make every effort to see that you do not work in this town again"
Big words, but the kid hands them the $300 and says.."I'll be watching"

They leave the place with the line "What is the point of having Fuck you money if you don't say Fuck you once in a while".

Sure enough the loudmouth leaves empty handed.

The students leave in their Audi R8...
Note to self: best learn not to piss off a DuPont heir...true story

Was this the same yahoo that drove a tank around Mainline Philly and killed that wrestler?

Anyhoo...... I've got a better one....

One night, in the bathroom at a wild Malibu party, a very "Happy" Joan Osborne asks me, "Do you know what fucks like a tiger and winks?" I said, "I give up, what?" Her response:

The fact that they actually claimed Harper and truly tried to get him at last season's waiver deadline..what was their plan thereafter? To land both Machado and Harper through trades, win the WS, and watch them both leave in FA? What kind of pussy plan is that at this stage in the rebuild of the Los Angeles Dodgers?

Just move to Portland already, Dodgers. Or better yet, back to Brooklyn. Brooklyn's been refurbished in recent years, looking decent these days. If they don't open up for Harper at this stage, they should just take their asses back to Brooklyn and resume caddying for the Yankees

Yeah, they've gotta GTFO..Montreal, cool..hell, Mexico City sounds just as good. I wonder if the Dodgers would sign Harper if they played in his hometown of Vegas? London Dodgers? Decatur Dodgers? Dodge City Dodgers? Doo-Doo Dodgers. They all sound accurate right now.

Dodgers need to sit down and find some middle ground with Boras. The same Boras they're going to have to deal with on behalf of Seager and Bellinger in the coming years. Figure this out for everyone's sake. For Harper's sake..MLB's sake as well. MLB needs a notable star in his prime playing baseball for the Dodgers and I don't mean a cheap clown, like one that was sent to Cincy. Harper being arguably the only real superstar and recognizable face in MLB..this needs to happen for everyone's sake. Even for the sake of MLB's sorry ass, boring offseason. I mean, I love CKWG's reports, and he's giving it his all to make this shit exciting with all the bread crumbs, but this is flat out boring. After all this talk, if Harper just goes back to DC..blah. When's soccer start? Has it already started? What about Big 3 basketball? Has my man Pete Weber retired from bowling? I hear Tiger's back..

    • There's a growing sense that there's at least one other credible team that is quietly creeping around on Harper behind the scenes and has potentially made a sizeable offer. Why? Well it would be an incredibly dumb move for a team(The Nats in this case) to suddenly and very publicly "considerably" up their offer if nobody else was in the equation. It would be seen mildly embarrassing if it turned out you did that only to really bid against yourself(ala Orioles and Chris Davis). Some speculation is that it was in preparation of the upcoming Phillies meeting, but that doesn't make a whole lot of sense as then the Phillies would be getting an idea of where they need to be at with their initial offer. Where as the Nats are already likely in a position to get the last shot anyway.
    • The rumors on the Dodgers have dried up incredibly, but there is a feeling that they are still going to be fairly active up until ST. Folks that have connections to the FO have said that they are far more upset about how the team unraveled in the playoffs than they have let on. There is some belief that once the Harper/Machado pieces fall, the Dodgers will move quickly to fill other spots. There is also suspicion that the team is not making these moves now as they COULD still be in on Harper and the differences of whether or not they land him could drastically impact how they round out the offseason. One route if they miss on Harper is to go more contact oriented with Pollock, Lemahieu and a catcher like Cervelli. If they were to somehow pull off the upset and net Harper, they could choose to go for it all and in turn make a stronger move for Realmuto where they could more comfortably move Verdugo and Smith. I still think the team ultimately misses on Harper, but this does make some sense.
    • Caleb Ferguson was on Hot Stove yesterday morning and it was an interesting interview, that is besides some truly awful preparation and questions from Harold Reynolds(SHOCKED #NotShocked). He mentioned that he lost the feel for his curveball as the season was coming to a close, I think we all saw that. After his first outing in the playoffs against the Braves, he was told to go talk to somebody as they probably had some advice for him. Well Sandy Koufax had him change his curveball grip and he has seen some decent results. It does not sound like from the interview that they necessarily consider him a starter going forward, but we will see. https://www.mlb.com/dodgers/video/ferguson-on-dodgers-2018-season/c-2521814183

CKWG do you have time to start a fantasy baseball league let’s do it.

I am sure the group in here would have a blast drafting.

Also thanks for all the good reading.

But in my opinion Harper is a no brainer. If they miss on Harper there is no sense in going the route of Pollock and Lamiehue.

You build good teams on strong foundation that are a sure thing and fill in the gaps.

I would sign Harper & Machado because they are strong foundations and just the excitement it would create in merchandising and ticket sales and yes more tv money revenues would pay off.

Star power everyone loves that. Who wants to be mediocre not me I shoot to the top.

Anyways they are both young and sure proven strong commodity that would make a strong foundation

I love Seager & Bellinger which are not proven commodity with potential but we have seen how quickly they rise and fall.

They are just not a finished product and will need a strong foundation to lean on to build on and get the confidence to perform and be a finished product to be studs.

If we cannot resign them in the future for being strapped financially which I seriously doubt it because every year things go up financially not down

Worst case scenario trade them in a position of receiving top talent in the later years to come

Keeping stocked up and winning foundation were players knock at our doors. Now that is power.

That’s what the Yankees have everyone wants to play for them even if it ain’t the 1st choice but real winner want to be in a position to be noticed in s big market

"Upset at how the team unraveled in the playoffs"...

...is confusing to me. What did they expect? The Dodgers were a good team but not a super team and it is the era of the super team. They got beat by a super team.

Manny was mediocre (for him) the entire time he was with us, Kershaw has always been a choke artist, Kenley blew saves all season, Grandmal botched plays all season, Bellinger had been a low volume hitter for a calendar year, Joc hits some clutch bombs here and there, etc. Their season ended exactly where you'd expect, if not exceeded expectations.

    There was no unraveling, imo.

Our foundation is good but not strong we keep falling back to the players that if they perform and stay healthy. Fuck that bring me legit star power like Harper and Machado.

    Shit it’s a no brainer.

I mean I just saw a comment where it says move the Dodgers to Mexico but really you got a Mexican that owns the Los Angeles Angels who invest in his team with star power and the Dodgers can’t which is the real Los Angeles team in the area I’m not trying to be racist because I’m Mexican myself so I’m just calling it how it is

Bad comp, imo. Arte Moreno is a disaster and his star investments after 2009 have all failed.
