I would rather this shit just be over so Carmelo can join and people can start bitching about a team with 2 Top 5 players on it

I would not be surprised if Mello does join the Lakers.......they are gona need bodies if any AD trade goes down. What is the buyout rule? Can Rondo/Stevneson/Beasley come back to the Lakers if they are bought out?? I thought there was rule against such things?

Oh it's going to happen. If this trade is agreed to we're about to see a parade of guys coming in after they're bought out, but by league rule, none of them will have played for the Lakers this season.

Gut feeling..Melo and Wes Matthews are locks. Deandre Jordan I'm 50/50 on..LAL could decide to just end this Javale McGee fuckery and ship him off for a shooter. I could easily see Javale going to Detroit, close to his hometown, and we get Reggie Bullock in return. Watch for Jamal Crawford as well. It could be a whirlwind

gotta pull the trigger. lebron has a couple years left, we gotta win right away. What have we seen from this young core that makes you believe they will be competing for a ring next year and the year after? are we really that sad to let ingram go? ball? anyone? how many more years do we wait and hope they take it to the next level and fulfill their "potential"? rondo and Stephenson are on one year deals. who cares. bye.

kuz is the only real value we lose over the next 3 years, and davis is light years ahead of him right now.

young core had their chance when lebron went down over a month ago and they didn't do shit.

trade the farm, get a top 5 guy to pair with another top 5 guy and fill in the pieces as we go.

I could see where LAL could potentially feel like KCP can play some PG, maybe even start mainly for defense since LeBron handles the ball so much

Who the hell is going to play point guard? I am with @spanky006 in wondering who in the buyout market could make sense for the Lakers. Melo seems like a sure thing at this point, hopefully he has been working his ass off since getting dropped(not likely...)

Melo's gonna do what Melo does.
If there is any player that can summon an oz. of talent from Melo's corpse, you know the rest

I don't like taking Solomon Hill..that's a bitter pill, but still, 2 Top 5 players. They must feel they can move him down the road. They better be willing to let Moe Wagner, Svi and Bonga get some minutes and increase their value enough to be pieces they can attach to Hill's contract that expires after next season. Zu won't be enough. Maybe Zu + Bonga would be enough together to get a team to take Hill. Throw in a future 2nd rd pick, whatever.

But then I doubt this would be the only trade before the deadline. They need to trade Javale

Wtf now it's being reported that LAL would use the stretch provision on Hill during the summer

Isn't his contract more valuable as a 1 year deal next year?

I recommend following Eric Pincus on twitter for salary cap details. He says he imagines LAL would look to trade Hill first before using the stretch provision. Makes sense. The stretch would slice $5M out of LAL's available cap space and leave them around $5M short of the max number that guys like Kyrie, Kawhi and Klay can get.

Oh damn..I just thought of something. Kawhi has already turned down an additional $40-80M with the Spurs and isn't said to be money motivated. And if GSW doesn't max Klay out, would LAL have to in order to get him? So one of the reasons LAL could be willing to take Hill may be that they feel they can lure Kawhi or Klay for a little less. Shit, Kyrie's doing movies and selling plenty of Nikes..maybe he could be had for a little less as well.

Pincus just said the same, basically..it's not out of the realm of possibility that a max player could take a little less on a 1 + 1 type of contract that allows the team to then gain his Bird Rights and give him a significant raise thereafter. So ultimately, even with Hill perhaps on the way with AD, it doesn't entirely kill a Big 3 dream. And you have LeBron, AD, Magic, and likely Kobe representing Pelinka as recruiters.

Usually for teams that want to get out of longer termed contracts

I think the cap also goes up significantly in 2 years. Next year is #109MM and the year after is $118MM.

Why Paul George took the money in OKC. He televised his agent explaining to him how much more money he could make by staying with OKC and opting out and re-signing again when the cap goes up.

That's why he wanted LAL to trade for him. He wanted his money. He went through a tough injury and almost lost it all, so I don't blame him. Also, glad they didn't trade for him..they'd have nothing to give for a superior player in AD

Another thing to consider..Lakers want to be position-less. So not having a traditional point guard may not be that big a deal to them. Of course, they do want to be able to at least defend the position
