Yeah, that Puig guy is really smart! :D :D

Someone had to call Roberts out for his colossal, Pete Carrolesque failures!

    Thats why it's called rape.
    You don't have to agree.
In fact u can agree to disagree over a bottle of rapeseed oil.
It may come in handy in the end.

    great suggestion jeff
but here's a better idea... stfu
you should be grateful that any team would allow your shit team to be tied with them after nine innings
    want less ties?... play better
and if you like the premier league so much, go play there
a whiny bkitch like you would do well there
    fuck off

Its all just a ploy by mediocre pitchers like him to avoid more loses on their records.
Of course a SF player is supporting ties in pro sports.
How bout instead of a tie both teams should get a W so there will be no losers and no crying.

    some things never change...

Angel Hernandez ejects A.J. Hinch in spring training game
by Eric He | Yahoo Sports — 15 March 2019
    [IMG]
The baseball season hasn’t even started yet, and Angel Hernandez is already trending for the wrong reasons.

Hernandez, the home plate umpire during a spring training game on Friday between the Astros and Cardinals, tossed Astros manager A.J. Hinch one pitch into the bottom of the first inning. Hinch grew irritated after a 1-2 pitch by Astros starter Forrest Whitley to the Cardinals’ Harrison Bader in the top of the first was called a ball. Bader later reached on an error.

After the first pitch from Cardinals’ starter Daniel Ponce de Leon to the Astros’ George Springer in the bottom of the first was called a strike, Hinch had more words for Hernandez, who tossed the Astros manager from the dugout. Hinch then emerged from the dugout to confront Hernandez, and had to be restrained by hitting coach Alex Cintron. He was not finished, though, making a point to walk down the left field line to make his exit, stopping along the way to chat with third base umpire Mike Estabrook.

After the game, Hinch told MLB.com’s Alyson Footer that the incident stemmed from a conversation he had with Hernandez last week, in which Hernandez admitted that he gets four calls regarding balls and strikes per game.

“In between innings, I brought him over and had a calm conversation with him and said, ‘We have technology to help you get better that these pitches are strikes,’” Hinch said. “He had an arrogant attitude about it, didn’t want to hear it.”

Hinch continued that he thought Hernandez called the first pitch to Springer a strike to spite him. When he walked out to confront Hernandez, the umpire “said some condescending things that are inappropriate, unprofessional.”

“The fact that he wanted to throw me out in a spring training game is pretty ridiculous,” Hinch said. “He’s known for overreaction a little bit.”

This is far from Hernandez’s first foray into controversy. He ignited a firestorm during the ALDS last postseason when three of his calls were overturned after video replay. He also filed a lawsuit against MLB last December, alleging racial discrimination for the reason he has been passed up for numerous promotions to crew chief.

There is no television broadcast from Friday’s game, so, for now, we’re unable to tell exactly how bad the calls were that set Hinch off. But, based on Hernandez’s reputation for having a ... well, erratic strike zone, let’s assume it was more of the same.

This probably won't be popular, but I'm kinda on board with allowing ties. BUT, no extra innings? That's gay. I would support a cap on the number of extra innings, and a tie is worth half of a win (what I support is basically like the NFL rules... I don't know why the Premier League is even mentioned, this is 'Merica, bkitch).

Roughly 9% of games go into extras, so capping games at 9 innings basically means there would be a shitload of ties. Plus extra innings gives us a lot of walkout wins, which is the most exciting thing in baseball, so let's keep them.

Only 1.5% of games go beyond 12 innings, and less than 1% go beyond 13 innings. So a cap at 12-13 innings would mean the average team only has 1-2 ties per year, and I think that's reasonable. The truth is no one is happy watching a game in the 16th inning, everyone (including the fans) are cranky by then.

Estimated number of MLB games ending in tie based on inning cap
Games end at 9 innings: 218 ties per year
Games capped at 12 innings: 36 ties per year
Games capped at 13 innings: 18 ties per year
Games capped at 14 innings: 7 ties per year

but in all seriousness, here's an idea...
how about leaving the game alone?
seemed to doing pretty well for the first 100+ years until the dh
and then until selig [and now manfred] determined change was necessary
want to keep the dh in the al, fine
but fuck interleague play, fuck unbalanced schedules and fuck pitch clocks

    Ending long games is good.
It can be a relic of the past like endless round boxing.
Make the game exciting for the kids by turning each extra inning into a new sudden death game.

10th inning: Home team hits first and if they score a run they win. Lineups starts over from the top of the order.
That way the away team has to use their best reliever right away to try and shut down the home team and get their shot.
Home team has huge advantage of going first.

11th inning: Each team brings in 1 DH and 1 RP. A pitching duel.
The DH gets every at bat in the 11th inning until he gets a hit.
If the DH gets a hit the manager can elect to use pinch runner if one is available so the DH can hit again.
The RP can't be pulled for the entire inning. He has to win or lose the game himself.
Again the home team hitting first is a huge advantage. But so is having the better DH or RP.

    12th inning: HR Derby WTF.

The minimum 3 batter rule is asinine. Make the games move faster, sure. But don’t throw the baby out with the bath water.

So you mean to tell me if you have a Yu Darvish like meltdown, you are essentially forced to put the game waaaaaay out of the way early?

If that is your recipe to draw in the younger crowd, it will have the opposite effect. No one, not even those who bought tickets to a game, is gonna suffer through a 6-0 game in the 1st for another 8 innings.
