    fastball definitely a bit flat
surprised no one has helped with that ...
maybe experiment with taking a couple mph off it and/or altering grips
    maybe they have idk
but yeah he definitely has serious upside ans his offspeed pitches are sick

Some notes from the BA 11-30
    12. Rios- Playable at 3rd, but what was the biggest surprise is that he actually handled a really solid LF. Should be able to sit around .300, but low OBP and plus power. The reviews on him are always so solid, no idea why he ranks as low as he does everywhere. He is sounding like a great bench bat at least, if not solid trade chip.
    13. Downs- They really like his hit tool and feel it will play enough for him to be a regular at 3B-SS-2B, though his range may eventually pull him off of SS.
    15. Alvarez- Dude is showing some serious maturity issues. He continues to flash a ++ FB and two + breaking pitches, but he doesn't seem to take things all that seriously. Starting to sound like a serious waste of talent.
    17. Kendall- ++Speed, ++Defense, + Arm, +Power and none of it matters cause his swing is a total shit show.
    20. Gerardo Carrillo- Has some exciting stuff, but durability issues seem to have him pegged for the bullpen. Could be interesting to see what his stuff would do after that move.
    21. Miguel Vargas- Doesn't appear to have the quickness to stick at 3B, but does have the tools to eventually develop into a masher at 1B. Still has a lot to work on, but the upside is there.
    22. Zach Willeman- Sat 94-96 touching 99 with a power curve and hard slider that each flashed plus, but only in 18 innings. Easy velo after returning from TJ, which is why some think he could be another potential Walker Buehler type. Still a long ways to go, but early results are very exciting.
    24. Josh Sborz- Some positive words about him with potential of late game reliever. FB started creeping up to 96-97 last and his slider is a plus pitch, but can waiver a bit with locating. We will see him this year.
    25. Beaty- Boy they really like him a lot. Say he is a gamer and grinder that consistently puts together competitive AB's. This is his future outlook Beaty's ML debut is on the horizon in 2019. He'll break in as a bench player and has a chance to become more. The people I know that have watched him over the years REALLY like him.

MLB Pipeline had an interesting tweet today. There are 6 pitchers in MiLB that have 3 or more pitches that grade out currently as 60's or better on the 20-80 scale. The names on the list are all very well known with Forrest Whitely, Shane Baz, Brent Honeywell and Casey Mize all with front of the rotation/legit Ace upside. The other two names on that list were incredibly interesting as it included Dodgers #5 and #29 prospects Tony Gonsolin and Zach Willeman. Gonsolin grades out with a 60 FB, 60 CB, 70 Split and 50 Slider. Getting his command together will be the difference between him being a front of the rotation starter, mid rotation starter or dangerous back end reliever. As for Willeman, he grades out at 70 FB, 60 CB, 60 SL and 40 CH. Control has always been an issue for him, so he will really need to work on that part of the game. We shall see how he looks over a full season, but he will be watched closely.

If you are wondering about where May is, he checked in with a 65 FB, 60 CB, 55 CU, 50 CH with 55 Control which is what gets him the higher rating. Some intriguing notes about him is he has come into camp this year throwing absolute fucking gas and if the velo holds up with similar spin rate, it is a 70+ pitch. The cutter was something he implemented last season and has already leapt forward to be a dangerous third offering. Keith Law has mentioned the athleticism for May who still has an incredibly high window.

The Dodgers have the foundation for a legit Core-4 that should be MLB ready by the All-Star Break. Injuries happen and guys fall short of potential, but as it currently appears the club has a legit Ace in Buehler, a 1B or #2 in Urias, #2-#3 in May and a #3 in Gonsolin... each of which possess the stuff to be a front of the rotation stud.

Our luck has to eventually run out, but I am half expecting to hear that Michael Grove has come back throwing 103 with pinpoint control.

There was an interesting article about DJ Peters today on MLBPipeline, but besides that and my noted remarks before, there is A LOT of continuing chatter about him from scouts that have seen him this spring. We have been hearing the praises from Roberts and Co., though his results weren't amazing in the early games, it sounds like folks are really impressed with what they are seeing on the backfields. His swing looks a lot more fluid and he is apparently much more comfortable than he ever was in the box last year, which is what killed his value in many folks eyes(and something looked off when I watched him too). Would be really nice to get this guy going and put a big RH bat in between Seager and Bellinger for many years to come.

With LF being a shit show platoon to start the season, does Peters have a shot to take over midseason?

Since Pederson is still one of the better hitters in the game against RHP'ing, no almost certainly not. Unless of course this magically unlocks some new superstar talent in Peters that they just can't ignore. If anything, they would give Verdugo an extended look before going to Peters. They won't bring him up for a platoon, so it is hard for me to see him up before September at the earliest.

I'll take a 136 wrc+ vs RHP all day but the absolute incompetence against LHP is getting old from a fan standpoint. Not saying he should be replaced with an inexperienced guy who would probably be worse, but at least give Verdugo a chance?...

I guess they'll do a platoon in LF as long as Joc is around but the time is coming to move on

I have a feeling this 2019 offense is going to really struggle. Maybe there is enough production over 162 to win 90-92 games, but if/when the postseason arrives, it is going to be the same story.

Do I think Peters would solve that in 2019? No way. Verdugo or an outside hire? Possibly

    @ColoradoKidWitGame

Have the Seager, Kershaw, Bellinger, Urias types (along with other phenoms around the league) given us unrealistic expectations on when players should arrive in the big leagues? Like, 24-25 feels super old nowadays for a prospect. Or is this just perception vs reality?

You just named 4 elite prospects, so yes expecting many or most prospects to make it up at 19-21 is unrealistic. The great players have a strong chance of making it up at a fairly young age, but that does not mean a 24 or 25 year old prospect is old by really any standards either. Coaches are still able to find quirks and kinks to workout with players as they enter their mid 20's that can turn them into good productive players. You have to remember that these guys that usually make it up at 20-21, had multiple productive years leading up to breaking in and basically handled every challenge along the way. For a guy like Peters for example, if his new swing generates great results right away, they are likely to want to see him have to handle some sort of adversity which is why I think he spends most of 2019 in MiLB.

A lot of praise going around about some of our top prospects this spring. A few notes from the last couple of days.

    • Omar Estevez has been incredibly impressive in the early goings. This is somewhat interesting as Estevez kinda struggled in HiA for about 1.5 years before the Dodgers made some tweaks to his swing and then he took off down the stretch. The worries were if that was just an hot streak, then his prospect light was close to going out. Now if this tweak was real and continues to work, he is back in the conversation as an MLB regular at 2B. He won't probably hit for a ton of power, but could make for a bat that makes consistent hard contact. Dodgers Digest just posted this as I started this update http://dodgersdigest.com/2019/03/15/2019-dodgers-top-100-prospects-no-10-ss-2b-omar-estevez/ If he continues to hit in AA, he should move high into our top 10.
    • As I talked about last night, Dustin May continues to look really really good. An emerging FO philosophy is to target athletic pitching prospects that maybe can make adjustments better than others would. This has worked out really well with May, Tony Gonsolin and some other guys we should be hearing more about in the year ahead. His Velo supposedly sunk back down to 94-95 and touchinging 96 last night(instead of the 96-98 the other day), but had a lot of life to it, which is something that May has always had going for him. I would love to see with his size, for his velo to get up another couple of ticks. Most projections have him as a #3 starter, but any more gains in velocity could make for him to jump a class.
    • Tony Gonsolin is the other Dodgers pitcher that has had a lot of folks talking about him. His start the other day was incredibly impressive and continues to give hope that the Dodgers have not 1, not 2, but potentially 3 front of the rotation starters coming up behind Walker Buehler. His split finger continues to take major steps forward and is looking to be one of the most lethal secondaries coming from the MiLB level. He still needs to work on his command/control, but he along with May, looks to be MLB ready if the team needs him.
    • Dodgers top prospect Alex Verdugo is likely to break camp with the big club. I honestly don't think this happens if not for the Toles situation. Roberts said there will be plenty of AB's to go around.

    • Per Ken Gurnick of MLB.com, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said he wouldn’t be surprised if young pitchers Dustin May and Tony Gonsolin helped the Dodgers on the big league level at some point this year.

That is great to hear! I will say that if he is the only thing that comes out of the big Int'l signing year, I'd still be pretty bummed. It would also be funny since a lot of people cried foul when the Dodgers paid so much for him and there was belief that the club funneled him so much money so that they could sign some other guys(though that did not make a ton of sense).

Something worrying me is that Edwin Rios has continued to hammer the ball into the ground. Not sure what has happened to his swing, but the dude has looked to be far from an atrocity in the field, looking impressive in LF and at 3B. Really hope his bat comes back, cause if he can handle D as well as he has, the dude could make an impact on the MLB roster.

Wow, Kyle Glaser had some great words about Zach Willeman who I have been giving a lot of attention to here in the last couple of months. Said that there are those in the Dodgers front office that are comparing him to... Walker Buehler. This was something people had been just throwing out at as a VERY loose comp with what he was flashing. Now that camp has started, I am getting even more excited to see more reviews like this. His stuff was supposed to be incredibly "sick" upon his return from Tommy John, showing 3 +Pitches with front of the rotation upside. Could be interesting to see if they push him to Rancho to avoid the cold GL spring with the off-on weather. If the stuff continues, he'll move fast.

2 Dodgers pitchers that could/should be in the Top 100 by the end of the season are Josiah Gray and Michael Grove. Not sure what eyes have gotten on Grove, but there is a lot of confidence behind this guy going into the year.

Just caught a video of Marshall Kasowski from yesterday. This dude is Josh Collmenter over the top, but Marshall has the velocity that Josh never had. Super deceptive velocity. Threw a soft curve that the club supposedly the club is wanting him to throw a bit harder. Couldn't tell from the angle if he was throwing his slider or change. He is one to watch as if he can get a bit more out of his breaking pitches, he could be up here pretty quick.

There was a good bit of talk about Tony Gonsolin and his appearance from the other day. Not sure if anyone saw, but he just plain did not have any control of his breaking stuff and he was missing with the velo. Instead of falling apart in the first inning, the dude just reared back and started firing fastballs to get out of the inning. He got ahold of his splitter A BIT after that and made it work with only the two pitches to get through the appearance. That was really impressive and shows how good he could be with only two pitches. If that second and third pitch come around, he could be really god damn scary.

I am trying to hold back from getting too out in front of my ski's, but the growing light that we could have 4 front of the rotation, MLB ready, power arms all under the age of 25 anchoring Kershaw by seasons end is exciting.
