This man loves the Lakers. True love. Tears in his eyes.
Welp, rival execs win. They seized the moment with LeBron down, shit on the greatest Laker of all and got him to fold.
    They win..for now

ya never know. He could want total and complete change. He may need that now to get fulfillment. Anything is possible, but pop doesnt seem like a guy to me that's gonna want that LA spotlight.

Shaq wants West to take over. I want a pres/GM that's not 80 yrs old. How about that? How about a lead exec that's not likely to pass of natural causes in the near future?

Pop doesn't strike me as a pussy. The way Belichick treats the media in big market media-centric Boston, is more than likely the way Pop would smack the media in LA whenever they step too far across the line

LA is a soft media market. Pop would have no problems there.

Pretty much. Although, do have to take into account the national media as well. Lakers being the biggest brand and getting ample media coverage nationwide on every little rumor would probably be the bigger challenge. But again, Pop doesn't strike me as a pussy. If Phil handled it, Pop would believe he could handle it. May even want to take that challenge of adding more titles for a 2nd org like Phil

all in all, I think Magic was just in over his head (as in Pelinka, He can't stay either with reports of him and other agents not getting along, and other reports of him flat out lying to players). This move is best for long term

If it's a set up where they're not relying heavily upon an 80 year old, that'd be ideal

Lakers are such a sh*t show right now.

Regardless of what is said in the inevitable press spin to come, this is an admission that Magic was not the right person with the right temperament to be a president of operations anymore than he was fit to coach the team.

Magic wanted instant success and bug splashes and ended up tanking the team with his reckless pursuit of every possible long shot acquisition. He was never about patient team building.

The troubling thing is that Pelinka is on thin ice as a Magic guy, and Walton's status is in limbo.

Who in their right mind would want to be a GM, Pres of Ops, coach or FA of this team at this point?

The saddest thing is that for all the good things Magic said about Jeannie, not even informing her is a huge slap in the face. That was truly disrespectful for someone he says he truly respects.

They may still stay friendly, but that bond of a true confidant is broken. This was a deliberate act, and Jeannie isn't dumb enough to not understand that.

And on top of it, it just gives Mitch and Jimmie Buss something to laugh about with Jeannie's tenure. This just sounds like an outright betrayal or really hasty behaviour at the best.

Man, just when you thought the Lakers couldn't sink any lower, they just did.
