Honestly worried about what the Astros could do with him. For his peripherals to be as "ehhhh" as they are and the Stros to have considerable interest is eyebrow raising. Rosenthal mentioned that the Giants tried some tweaks in his usage in his last couple of starts and they had good results to match with an interesting bounceback in velocity. Really want to see him go to a club like the Twins where if he turns it on again and you meet them in the playoffs, he is their ace... not their #3 or heaven forbid #4 with the the way the Astros front 3 looks. Really want him out of the NL and not with the Yanks or Stos.

Could just grow a sack and trade for him.
But now that there is serious demand, the cost/reward probably isn't where it needs to be.
Plus with other holes to fill...[homo]

Roberts intends to skip White House visit if Dodgers win World Series
by Cassandra Negley | Yahoo Sports Contributor — 8 July 2019

The Los Angeles Dodgers have the league’s best record heading into the All-Star break, putting them en route to another World Series appearance that they hope goes differently than last October.

And if it does, manager Dave Roberts knows how he’ll answer the one question that looms over every championship team in this age.

“Will you go to the White House?

ROBERTS READY TO TURN DOWN PRESIDENT TRUMP

In a profile by Andy McCullough for the Los Angeles Times, Roberts “indicated it was unlikely” he would go to the White House celebration with President Donald Trump if the Dodgers were to win the World Series, which they intend to do.

Roberts said the Dodgers are “not going to stop until we hoist that trophy up. That’s apparent” but would rather skip one celebration afterward.

    Via the L.A. Times:

“We have to win it first. But one trip to D.C., playing the Nationals, is plenty for me.”

Visiting the White House used to be simple and apolitical. Teams that won titles would get to tour the place, have their photo taken with the president of the United States and offer the man a jersey to add to his collection.

It was a celebration of the team and achievement. It’s now a complicated moment in which anything could happen and visitors are concerned with giving legitimacy to the office and what it stands for, as USWNT superstar Megan Rapinoe has said.

Roberts and Trump have a backstory, which has also become common in this age.

    ROBERTS POISED AFTER TRUMP'S TWEETS

Roberts’ decision to replace starter Rich Hill in Game 4 of the 2018 World Series effectively handed over the title to the Boston Red Sox when the relievers gave up a four-run lead.

Trump took to Twitter to analyze the move, noting “managers do it all the time, big mistake!” Roberts was asked about it in the post-game presser and handled it with grace:

“I’m happy he was tuning in, and watching the game. I don’t know how many Dodgers’ games he’s watched. I don’t think he was privy to the conversation. That’s one man’s opinion.”

Roberts, the National League manager for the All-Star Game, further explained to McCullough this week why he didn’t press the issue or say anything nasty in response.

    Via the Los Angeles Times:

“There’s no benefit to responding to an irresponsible tweet irresponsibly, or ignorantly. So, I guess it’s one of those ‘consider the source’-type things. Which is sad, because that’s the leader of our country. That I have to say, ‘Consider the source.’ It’s sad.”

While it may not be a “clapback,” it certainly echoed the tone many have hit. It’s also no guarantee if the team were to win, it would be invited — especially given Roberts’ “indication” he wouldn’t go.

Trump removed an invite to the Golden State Warriors in 2017 that was never offered when Stephen Curry said he wouldn’t go. The following year Trump announced before the NBA finals the winning team would not get invited.

He did the same to the Philadelphia Eagles after their Super Bowl victory, pulling their invite. While he was quick to invite the Baylor women’s basketball team this year, his record inviting women’s teams of any sort has been poor. The Minnesota Lynx were never invited and decided to do community service in D.C. during the time the team would have visited the White House.

    • Something very interesting came out of the MLB Futures game yesterday and that was the performance of Dustin May. May's FB was 96-98 with HEAVY sink, was changing speeds and overall looked very good in his 1IP. One of the notes was that the scouts in attendance gave him some of the most attention either by teams that would like to pry him away or others that are preparing to see him later this season. He still has work to do on his secondaries before I think we see him hit the rotation for anything outside a spot start or two. The biggest takeaway that I have read from a view folks was just how lethal he looked as a starter... that came in as a reliever with no prior experience in doing so. It is not uncommon for young starters to really struggle in this game when they are not used to the adjustment and the whispers of this dude being used as a reliever are getting louder. The good news is while we are at the halfway point of the season, he is also maybe only halfway to his pitch limit. The team could use him in a relief role down the stretch to not push him too far over and see how realistic his future is in the pen for a potential WS run. I keep saying it, but the Dodgers could have the two of the best relief arms "available" sitting on their farm right now.
    • Jim Bowden said that Gavin Lux and Dustin May are two of the most likely prospects to be traded this summer. The report was responded to with a heavy dose of laughs by not only Dodgers fans/bloggers and writers, but by the general scouting community. Both May and Lux are seen as potential stars now that could impact the major league roster very soon and the named players available should in no way require a return of either.
    • There is growing belief that Keibert Ruiz may be more attainable than he was in years past, but he would likely be the most prominent piece the club will be willing to part with this trade season. The market is pretty weak for what the Dodgers are looking for and their other top prospects all fill needs both this current season and next season with Lux(2B 2019 /2B 2020-), May (RP 2019/ SP 2020-), Smith (UTL 2019/ C 2020-) and Gonsolin (RP 2019/ SP or RP 2020-). Ruiz's stock has dropped severely this year, but those worries get "yeah, but's" since he is still very young for where he is at and still shows elite skills in multiple facets of the game.
    • The trade deadline is starting to get hairy. The new one day only deadline paired with the two wild card berths still has a lot of teams thinking they are in this. The Cubs and Brewers have been stumbling of late, making every team in the NL Central believe they are in it. Realistically, the Mets and Marlins are the only teams that you could say are really "out of it" in the NL. I personally would love it if the Giants started to believe they could compete and decide not to sell at the deadline, only to have it bite them in the ass. The AL is much more figured out as only 5 are teams are really in the hunt for the final 2 wild cards. What is going to make things very tough is the pickin's are INCREDIBLY slim so the Dodgers landing two elite relievers may no longer be in the cards. There have not been many rumors, but the names being floated more recently may not be big upgrades for the Dodgers and their woeful bullpen.

    A) Slow news day? Why "journalists" need to bait players and managers with politics is beyond me.
    B) The Dodgers haven't won anything and probably won't.
    C) President 45's tweets about game 4 weren't ignorant or irresponsible. They were actually spot on.
    D) There's undoubtedly players on the team who probably would want the opportunity to visit the White House. What about them?
    E) "It's now a complicated moment"...that is what pisses me off the most. No, it isn't a complicated moment. Presidents come and go, and most of them suck. Now it's "complicated"? No. Your industry has just made it your mission to hate one man. I hate matter-of-fact statements from the media. If you have a negative opinion on any president, fine. But they present opinion as FACT...a given...not everyone thinks like you.

I'm as big a fan as anyone, but I'm about done if this is what the Dodgers and LA "sports" media want to be. I'll miss it but be better off.

I think Zaidi would have no problem trading with the Dodgers with the exception of two in that Posey and Bum are off limits. Would he trade them to us? Yeah, if we offered the best package. The problem is their owners are not shy about getting involved and there is no chance in hell that they would go along with that.

Whoa...to come out and declare this as team policy at this time, is as classless and vain as stuff Trump says and does regularly. And no matter how much he qualifies it or walks back the braggadocio ( no subtlety at all), this is ill timed and serves the team no purpose.
Can't stand him as a field commander, and don't give two shits about his political likes or dislikes.
    Is he serious ?
I wish he were in Pamploma, getting trampled by a bull.

The author is Andy McCollough. That political bent is right up his alley. Had Roberts said something mildly supporting the president, it would never reach print.

I sincerely hope the Giants are delusional enough to think they're still it and hold onto assets like Bumfuck and Smith that could help replenish their farm system.

People want to be old and say they were on the right side of history after WW3 if Trump gets pinned as a Fascist.
They want it on record that they were good germans.

So AJ back and Corey too. Would love to keep Beatty up here but our plethora of OF'ers will prevent it unless an injury happens. 13 pitchers right now on the roster so that will be the other shoe to drop. Hoping it's Rosscup but he's a lefty so it'll probably be Chargois but not for lack of success. REVENGE is at hand!!! Even though it's basically a hollow victory but to me it'll be sweet nonetheless!!!

Beaty has been fun and all, and I appreciate his contributions, but he really isn't that good. He's been below league average for us and over the course of 162 games those epic walk-off type moments would be few and far between. I appreciate what he's done and if somebody gets hurt he's a good guy to have on retainer.

He seems like one of those guys you want on the end of the bench for pinch hitting scenarios. He has shown an ability to thrive in that role and his contact rate makes him pretty ideal for it. Should not be a regular starter on a championship contending team. One, maybe two starts a week is ok, but more than that and it is not great. If the bench is gonna have guys like Hernandez and Taylor on it, they will need Beaty for the contact plays.

Good point, I like Beaty in the bench as a compliment to Hernandez/Taylor. Enrique is a good option if you feel he can run into one, Taylor is good to start out an inning, and Beaty is good if you want to try to avoid a K. Freese is the best combo of the 3

Morsoi had a couple of reports, plus some other rumors:
    • Both the Dodgers and Giants have expressed a willingness to trade with each other at the deadline.
    • The Dodgers are not entertaining the idea of moving any of Lux, May, Ruiz or Will Smith in a deal for a reliever.
    • The Dodgers do not seem to have interest in Madison Bumgarner.
    • The Pirates are said to be asking for two of those four in a Vazquez deal which makes the chances of a deal incredibly unlikely.
    • The Dodgers are hoping to add two lefties for the pen.
    • The Padres have ramped up trade talks with the Mets for Noah Syndergaard and are showing a willingness to part with some of their top prospects to make a deal. I'd honestly be fine with this as he has not been his dominant self this year.
    • The Indians are considering trading Trevor Bauer even in the midst of the playoff hunt. The Astros are said to be one of the strongest pursuers.
    • As mentioned above, the Dodgers are said to be looking for 2 lefties to add to the pen, but they do seem to be prioritizing adding two upper echelon arms to pair with Kenley whether they be lefty or righty.

Yep, I’d said it before but I don’t see the Pirates being serious about trading Vasquez.

Giants are truly the best trade partner. Getting 2 relievers from them would be best bet. Two of their relievers, with at least one being lefty, would work

Basically, “blow us away or we’re not trading him” since he’s under team control til 2021 and Neal Huntington is pretty mediocre at what he does.

I like the idea of Watson and Smith. While Dyson has been good, his checkered past has me worried. I would be really happy if they pulled off Watson, Smith and Greene. It’s not the two elites, but it is an elite and two very good arms to pair with Jansen, Baez, the suddenly turning it around Kelly and Urias.
