Wonder how serious they are about trading Reyes Moronta. He’d be the #2 guy I want behind Smith.

Is there any talk about using Gonsolin or May out of the bullpen in October?

I’d bet they’ll give them both an audition, amongst others, starting in September. However, as we saw with buehler a few years ago, we shouldn’t bet on them being good enough out of the bullpen.

My guess right now is that a “playoff” bullpen is like this:
2 spots locked: Jansen and Baez
Urias is close to a lock unless he can’t go back to back days OR he’s the 4th starter
1 spot for a starter turning into a reliever (Maeda/Strip/Hill).

That leaves 3-4 spots open. At least one of those would be a lefty. Other 2-3 are open competition amongst everyone else and any new guys

Astros most interested in Trevor Bauer. Hope he goes there and fucks that whole club up

That’d be hilarious considering Bergman and Cole aren’t fond of him

I think McCullers too. Bauer has a beef with Cole dating back to UCLA.

And with Bauer's attitude, I am sure he doesn't give a shit. The one thing is, the Astros FO has shown to give zero shits about clubhouse chemistry when making deals and I think their club is built to withstand such a move. Though this is the one that would most definitely test that theory since it is two very hard headed/stubborn dudes instead of a wife beater that likely knew he fucked up and made sure to keep his mouth shut.

Beaty goes down to OKC...too bad. If Polly equals his contact, I'd be glad.
S'long Beaty, we hardly knew ye...
Btw, is your dad Warren still getting all that top shelf tookie?

Beaty probably back sometime soon I’d think. Didn’t mind him at all.

Thoughts on these possible rule changes? I'm all for giving the players with speed the opportunities to make more of an impact. I'm not a big fan of the direction the game has taken, with launch angles and speed off the bat and HR numbers up. Maybe chicks dig the long ball, but I personally thought the game was more exciting when Maury, Ricky, Brock, and Raines were stars. Now, I can't even tell you who the top three base stealers are without looking it up.

Fuck no. All those rule changes are just dumb.
    Leave the game alone!

    Congratulations to CWKWG.

Does it look like Lux may be a Seager 2015 situation? Come up in late August-early September and steal the job?

Good lord, stop fucking with the game it’s fine the way it is. It’s like they’re trying to make Yasmani Grandal even more useless in the playoffs.

    Thanks!

Yes, but the job he’d steal would likely be 2B unless there’s an injury. Just not sure they can trust a right side of Muncy and Pederson come playoff time.

    Definitely.
    Wasn't implying he'd steal Corey's job.
Agreed that a right side of Muncy and Joc would be a disaster.

Bummer+Colome would be a good combo package from the white Sox if they can’t get anyone more elite like Vasquez, Hand or Smith.

The Dodgers have expressed interest in Matthew Boyd of the Tigers. He is one of the more sought after starters at the deadline and there is a belief that he is being improperly utilized by the Tigers. On the surface this does not make a whole lot of sense for the already lefty heavy rotation, but he would be a damn dangerous #4 that likely would take the place of a Hill or Ryu after the season. If the Dodgers worked their magic, he could also be someone that could leapfrog Kershaw in a playoff series(probably not, but his FIP is just barely better than Kersh's). I think this is the Tigers using the Dodgers to boost the haul from the other interested NL parties as he really does not make a ton of sense for the team.

What I don't get is why MLB made such a push to shorten games only to propose rule changes that would increase scoring and lengthen games. It seems that they are fine with long games as long as there is lots of scoring to go with it - I call it dumbed down baseball. This is what you get when you think the 2017 WS had games that were "instant classics" instead of recognizing them for the shit shows they were.
