The way too early look at the playoff rotation and bullpen does make things look a bit more interesting, even dare I say intriguing? Just thinking about it and there is definitely potential for this to be the DEEPEST bullpen of the last 3 runs. It matches up with what has beaten us the last two years. A team with a scuffling bullpen, has nowhere else to turn so it goes to converting starters to relievers. Only difference is the Dodgers have more impact arms to use than those teams had going into it.

    5 Game / 7 Game Series Rotation

    Ryu / Buehler
    Buehler / Ryu
    Kershaw / Kershaw
    May / May

    LOOGY Kolarek/Ferguson/Gonzalez *if necessary*
    MR Sadler/ Floro *if necessary*
    LR Gonsolin
    LR Hill
    LR Urias
    LR Maeda
    SU Kelly
    SU Baez
    CL *shudders* Jansen

This setup would give the Dodgers starters 5 innings to get through the order potentially twice, or keep going. A barrage of multi inning guys that have never been there before in this run that could get us through the middle innings. Closing the door will always be the most difficult task in a playoff game, especially with the waning Jansen. Still, someone mentioned the other day that the Dodgers arms with how they could mix and match would potentially be a very dangerous playoff matchup. They could do soft tossing lefties(Kershaw, Ryu) and piggyback them with the power of Gonsolin. Then go hard throwing righties (May, Buehler) and offset that with the finesse of Hill and then ratchet it back up again with Kelly or Urias. When looking at our arms and the playoffs, I really think we are going to have a different bullpen than we have seen in other years, and that could be a good thing.

Cody's next bomb will bring him into the org's single season top 10. Gonna need a bit of a flurry to catch or beat the record of 49 set by Shawn Green in 2001.

If you're a stat geek like me, now's a pretty cool time to compare Kershaw and Koufax's career numbers, because they're about as close as possible in tenure, with each at 12 seasons (Kersh has more games under his belt, Sandy more innings). They're pretty much even in Wins and Strikeouts. That said, Koufax dominates some other stats (Shutouts, CGs), while Kershaw is better in other areas (ERA, WHIP, BBs). Also, Koufax had a slow start to his career, and once it took off, he strung together 5-6 seasons that are probably unparalleled by any other pitcher. It's a shame his career ended as early as it did, but you can see how his arm was overworked. Koufax's best seasons are more eye opening with shutouts and strikeouts (and no hitters), but adjusting for the differences in how pitchers are used today, Kershaw has his share of impressive years too.

Bottom line, we're fortunate to have had them both (even though SK was before my time).

Of course, Sandy has a couple WS MVP's, but hopefully Kersh still has some better chapters to add to his postseason story.

Bellinger only needs 4 more HRs to move up to 3rd on the Dodgers' single season HR list, so there's a high likelyhood he moves up at least that far.

FWIW he's currently on pace to hit 52.

Gavin Lux tweeted "The marathon continues" with a checkered flag emoji and then promptly deleted it. It seems to be about Nipsey Hussle, but odd that he deleted it unless he was worried that people would get riled up by it. It would be odd timing for him to get the call as Taylor is starting his rehab assignment today, Hernandez has started his live work in AZ and Gyorko has been crushing the ball during his rehab stint that is more than half over. Doesn't seem like he will be getting the call just yet, but worth keeping an eye on.

If he's ready he should be up. Kike, Taylor, Gyroko, etc. being ahead of him on the depth chart is laughable/political.

Here's example #562 on why Roberts is an idiot.

Dodgers currently rank first in the NL in OBP with .341. Yet their splits for positions in the batting order that are most crucial for getting on base are pedestrian, at best. Our leadoff hitters have a season OBP of .318, which is 10th best in the NL. Our #2 hitters are at .336, good enough for 11th in the league. At what point will Roberts wake up and realize that Pop-up Pollock and Joc the Groundout are not the best options for hitting in front of Muncy and Bellinger? The fact that Joc was in the HR Derby should have clued him in. I don't even care if they're not a speedster like the leadoff hitters of the past. Just give me someone who is a high contact guy, like Verdugo, or hell, I'd even take Beaty or Smith over those other two clowns.

I can't wait for Lux to get the call because he seems to be the prototypical leadoff hitter. But then I realize that Roberts will probably start him every fifth game and alternate him between the 7 and 8 spots.

Rooting pretty hard for CB on this one. Compared to some of the other well known orgs, Shawn Green topping LAD's single season HR list is just unimpressive

Alanna: "Gavin Lux is absolutely raking in AAA, when can we expect to see him promoted?"
Roberts: "We love Luxie. But we're going to ride Kiké (unintended homo). His experience in big moments outweighs whatever contributions Luxie would bring to the table."
Alanna: "Okay, we're hearing that Rich Hill is getting closer to returning. Where, if anywhere, do you plan to use him and how does that impact the rest of the staff going into the postseason?"
Roberts: "When Richie comes back he's our #4. He's earned that spot and no one can take it away from him. As for roster moves, we've already decided to shut Dusty and Goosey down for the rest of the year. We feel the rest will benefit them both far more than actually having to participate in postseason baseball."
Alanna: "Wait, so what's the rotation?..."
Roberts: "Clayton is our #1, followed by Hyun-jin, Kenta and Richie?
Alanna: "Wait, what about Walker or even Urias?!!!"
Roberts: "Those guys have their work cut out to make the postseason roster. Yimi is a lock, and with the way Caleb and Chargie have been throwing the ball lately, it's going to be tough."
Alanna: "Wow, any other announcements or surprises?"
Roberts: "Yes, actually. I was talking with Andy the other day, and let him know that I was planning to retire after the 2022 season when my current contract expired."
Alanna: "That day can't come soon enough?"
    Roberts: "I'm sorry?..."
    Alanna: "Nothing, go on."
Roberts: "Right, so out of nowhere he offered me a 10-year contract extension."
    Alanna: "WHAT?!!!"
Roberts: "That's right Alanna! I'll be in Dodger Blue until 2032!!! Isn't that amazing?!!!""
    Alanna: :suicide:

The Yankees and White Sox are going to play a game at the Field of Dreams in Iowa, which is pretty cool.

Hopefully the Dodgers and MLB would consider building a modular replica of Ebbets Field in Brooklyn for a three-game series against the Giants one of these years. Preferably regular season. As cool as the Coliseum thing was (and it was definitely great), it was still just an exhibition.

I just watched an old documentary produced by HBO last night called The Ghosts of Flatbush, which I'm sure many of you have seen. I don't think any franchise has ever been more representative of its community than the Dodgers while they were in Brooklyn. I mean, I'm glad they are here, and they've certainly created their own 60-year identity in Los Angeles too. 76 gasoline, farmer john, palm trees, 60s architecture, Dodger Dogs, 5 championships, the majority of Vin's career, and the list goes on. But it would be awesome to try and recreate that environment in Brooklyn for just a weekend. It is nice when they wear the B on their cap once every couple years, but it just does not fit at Dodger Stadium.

It always bothered me that the Rams basically shunned all of the players and fans from Los Angeles when they moved St Louis. I'm glad the Dodgers embrace their history and I hope something like this happens.
