Participating in this countdown thread as a fan was fun because A) need to win the division (or a wildcard berth) to continue on to the postseason, and B) reminiscing on players of yore is always fun, or at least interesting. That said, I've got to say the players' champagne celebration really bugs me. I didn't like it last year and I hated it even more this year. Sure, the consecutive division winning streak is something to be proud of, but this team HAS to have their sites set on something bigger, and passing on the bubbles would have signaled that they get it. They all said afterwards that they have more work to do... that's great, but how about have a private celebration on the division win and keep your game face on for the upcoming playoffs. Coming out the next day and losing to the shitty Orioles with HFA's on the line tells me there's still a lot of "just happy to get there" sentiment on the team.

And it all starts with Roberts.

    agreed
at this point the division celebrations are premature
not saying they shouldn’t be happy, but there’s an adage... “act like you’ve been there before”
the focus should absolutely be on the big prize, especially after falling short two straight seasons
i personally believe this is the worst team of the last three, and would not be stunned if we get knocked off by an nl team

As a fan, the champagne celebrations are tired. For the team, I'd imagine it's a different feeling.

I think I would prefer champagne celebrations to be reserved for pennents or even the world series, but I dont really feel strongly one way or the other.

As far as the "act like you've been there before", I think the player reactions after the final out have gotten more subdued in each of the past six seasons

That they came flat a day after celebrating the division was hardly unexpected and blaming the manager is grasping at straws.

Yeah, maybe I didn't articulate well. I blame Dave, in general, for failing to get these guys over the championship hump, not the one game.

Shouldn’t we reset this to 11?

The celebrations are hollow IMO. They've already accomplished division, LDS and LCS titles. Anything short of a WS title should be considered redundant, if not a failure.

So you would rather live among SFag fans?

These cocksuckers are laying in wait (very homo) for the Dodgers to fail again so they can crow about their three titles in five years.

Our community is about 50-50 Dodger and Giant fans.

Been told we're all God's children. Giant fans are an exception.

I’ve been living in the Bay Area for around 19 years. I must have been an awful person in my prior life to be put into baseball hell for all these years.

Unfortunately, I’ve pulled my kids into the purgatory that is being a Dodger fan. They don’t deserve such punishment. They don’t even have the privileged of having been alive for ‘80 and ‘88.

    I’m an evil person.

I was just informed, our NL HFA Magic Number is actually 1.

We are 4-2 against the Braves this year, so we hold the tie-breaker. Meanwhile, the Yankees and Astros both hold the tie-breaker over us, so surpassing either for a potential HFA in the WS is pretty much off the table.

Good luck to you. 6/1 odds sounds about right.

2 weeks ago I saw the Jags odds to win the SuperBowl at 200/1, which looked like a steal to me. I tried to get friends in Vegas to place a bet for me, but they don't bet regularly and didn't have the interest to roll down to a sports book. The Jags are now sitting at 100/1, which is where they should have been.
