Injury updates on Kelly, Hill, Turner, Pollock
    by Ken Gurnick | MLB.com — 11:58 PM PDT

SAN FRANCISCO -- The injury updates were mostly good news for the Dodgers on Friday.

Joe Kelly, who hasn’t pitched since Sept. 18 with an unspecified condition, threw a bullpen session effectively enough for manager Dave Roberts to say he expected Kelly to pitch in Sunday’s regular-season finale.

“It was really good,” said Roberts. “We got out of it what we wanted, just kind of the intensity. The command wasn’t where it needs to be, we expected that. Shape of breaking ball, letting the fastball go, the changeup, using whole mix. Really encouraging.”

Rich Hill also threw a bullpen session and reported no problem with his left knee.

    “Felt great,” said Hill.

Roberts said Hill will start Sunday with a target of three innings. If he makes the postseason roster, Hill would be considered a reliever. But Roberts said if he can give them four innings he would be a logical candidate to start Game 4, backed up by the other eight relievers.

“Richie was really good,” said Roberts. “Today was the best he’s thrown the baseball, including the games. It was electric today.”

Roberts said he will wait until after Hyun-Jin Ryu’s Saturday start to meet with Ryu, Clayton Kershaw and Walker Buehler before deciding the order of their starts in the first round of the postseason. A likely order is Buehler, Ryu, then Kershaw.

“I know Clayton will be on board regardless,” said Roberts. “We can’t make a wrong decision with our three guys. They’re all one and the same.”

Roberts said there is a scenario where both rookies Dustin May and Tony Gonsolin could make the postseason roster.

Third baseman Justin Turner missed his third game after experiencing lower back stiffness, but Roberts reported improvement.

“He’s taking a regular day of pregame practice,” said Roberts. “The hope is to get him back in there tomorrow, but I’ll lean on Justin and the training staff, and if not it’ll be Sunday.”

Outfielder A.J. Pollock was added to the injury list in the top of the fifth inning as he suffered a contusion when he was hit near the left knee by an 82.3 mph slider from Sam Selman. Pollock limped to first base but was removed and replaced by Chris Taylor. X-rays were negative, and Roberts said Pollock wouldn't play Saturday but was expected back for Sunday's regular-season finale.

Yeah, I mean it's not so much about teams like LAD and NYY being great for rebuilding w/o tanking..they obviously have ample resources to do that successfully, more resources than everybody else. They've done well, but not an otherworldly achievement.

Just these lower rung teams need to do better. They have enough money to be more competitive than they are currently, specifically, as you said the AL

Lolwut? What happened to Pollock this time? Have my head into the Spence/Porter fight and not even in on this last series.

So dumb. I knew it. When Seager had hammy tightness and had to be pulled last series, I would've immediately scratched Pollock for the rest of the reg season

Saw Pollock in the headline and just blacked out. Slider to the knee? No banana peel?

Pollock is like an injury magnet. I bet that pitch was willed into his knee by cosmic forces.

Yeah, think Porter's only chance is to muck it up and make it a messy bout, try some vintage Holyfield tactics. Spence says he's prepared for it, so we'll see.

Think if Spence wins this one he'll move into the Top 5 pound for pound on most list. Only BWA and ESPN have him in the Top 5 right now. All the other sites aren't on board yet. He wants Pacquiao next

Almost like he's willing it himself for cover. He's probably a mutant or alien or something behind closed doors

    Yadier Molina is a moron.
The league wide adoration he receives baffles me.
Cole hamels barely nicks him on an inside pitch and yadier starts flapping his jaw and acting like a tough guy. Typical yadier crap

Didn't see what happened, but I don't even think I need to. 2 time WS champion, HOF, captain and tone setter, Yadier Molina happened again.

STL has a culture of being willing to mix it up and do anything to win big and that's pretty much what they need to do to win this postseason since they're probably the least talented club on the NL side. So that was probably his angle..he was just gonna get after somebody for something in this last series and try to put his club on edge. Especially against the Cubs. He's a risk it all guy and they follow his lead. And yeah, I'm with you..I hope LAD doesn't have to face that. LAD would probably win the series, but come out of it with 2 flat tires

Cringe-worthy demonstration on how to pick throws at first base by Harold Reynolds and Carlos Pena. First, Carlos goes through a compilation of throws that first baseman didn't pick. Then he rips into them saying how that's the difference in a lot of games. Then they go to that tiny field in the studio, and Harold gives him a bunch of candy hops right at his chest. The only two realistic picks that came Carlos's way, he completely missed. Talk about irony

The Dodgers have no HFA to play for tomorrow. The only things they have to play for are the most wins in franchise history, and sticking it to the giants.
