There may not have been a worse trade this decade than the Chris Archer trade. Glasnow looks like an ace after the mechanical fixes, Austin Meadows is a legit stud who posted .922 OPS and Shane Baz is chucking 100 MPH and is looking like at least a mid rotation starter. Archer has been nothing short of awful in 1.5 years with the Pirates... but yeah it is all the coaches fault.

Glad we never gave up what the Rays wanted for him
Didn't want him regardless of the price, honestly.
    Always seemed overrated to me

He was good from '13-'15, but has been nowhere close to an ace since then. All the media people saying he needed a change of scenery when really he was part of the problem.

meh, very good June, otherworldly in July, terrible in August and September. Coulda been useful in those earlier months, but he would not have gotten the AB's and Will Smith is just better.

I can't help feeling I'd rather see a Smith/ d' Arnaud catching tandem than Russell. Always have.
But you never know...maybe Russell has some magic left.
    We'll see...

wasn't suggesting he's better than Smith
but he seems to have more juice than Martin although at the time he looked like a zero
went to the Mets and did nothing as well
just didn't think he had much of a chance

d'Arnaud is generally regarded as a pretty shitty defender/framer so everything is in his offense and beside that hot start with the Rays, he wasn't anything special the last 40+ games. In all, he barely beat out Martin in WAR while having 150 more AB's than him. I think in terms of a backup, you prefer Martin.

Man... what could have been. We tried hard in '17 to get Pham and then he got hot as the deadline approached and the Cards pulled out of the deal.

Is there some sort of Jetstream in the stadium? They are legitimately hitting the ball hard, no question. But if those balls hadn't hit the batter's eye they would have traveled 450 ft to dead center.
