So if the Dodgers decide not to spend any more money on hitters for the next couple of years...

    SS: Lux
    RF: Verdugo
    3B: Seager
    CF: Bellinger
    1B: Rios/Muncy
    2B: Muncy/Downs
    LF: Joc/Peters
    C : Smith/Ruiz

Bench: Downs, Peters, Ruiz, Turner, Pollock

More likely in a scenario like that in two years would look like...
    SS Lux
    3B Seager/Smith/Muncy
    CF Bellinger
    C Smith/Ruiz
    1B Muncy
    LF Pollock/Rios
    RF Verdugo
    2B Downs/Smith

Bench: Rios, Ruiz, Beaty, Mann and random prospect that becomes star out of nowhere.

This is purely hypothetical and would never happen unless they win a WS this year on the backs of guys like Smith and Lux going off plus guys like Seager, Belli and Pollock stepping up. Joc is gone after 2020 at the latest, imo. The org is not going to spend a lot of money on a platoon player, no matter how good they may be at everything else(Yasmani Grandal says hi) and they have other dudes they would probably rather pay. From what I am hearing, Peters is probably creeping into non-prospect/Quad A territory. Once AAA pitchers figured him out, they destroyed him. Turner is probably gone as well at the end of his contract as I have a hard time believing that they will give him anything too appetizing. I sorta see him playing out his days in Anaheim on a smaller contract, but for a chance to stay close to home and they could utilize him better with the DH.

Wouldn't Turner probably stay around in an Utley type of role?
The problem of course is that the we are flush with 1B/3B types on cheap long term deals.
If what they say is true that Mookie Betts is available we will surely lose a lot of those cheap white guys like Muncy, Taylor, Barnes, Beaty, and top specs like Peters though.
The Dodgers would then probably still have a need to keep him around.
I think you are right about Anaheim. His popularity would not take a hit as Anaheim would fall in love with him instantly.

I love Joc and think that he is more valuable to us than he would be elsewhere.
To be honest I think even as a platoon player he is all star caliber.
Joc is an everyday Joc happy go lucky throwback of a player.
He is not particularly great at anything but is adequately good enough at everything else other than hitting left handed pitching.
What makes him a special player is that he always goes on 2 to 3 big hot streaks where he stops being average and becomes great.
Usually one of those hot streaks occurs somewhere around this time of the year.
Joc has proven to be a guy that steps it up. So he has a flaw... that's what a bench and a NL manager is for.
Joc came in a class with like 7 other OF prospects that all washed out. In the end it was just he and Puig.
Joc has taken the crown and has become a valuable player who is still improving.
One small off-season tweak that allows him to be a decent hitter vs lefties would make Joc into a very nice player.
His power is just too good to give up. It is near elite level when you factor that he leads off and can play a decent enough CF.
If he does not break the bank he would pair up well with Pollock as the old man rides his last years as a part timer.
Bellinger is destined for 1B anyway.

    CF: Betts
    1B: Bellinger
    RF: Verdugo
    3B: Turner/Seager
    SS: Seager/Lux
    2B: Lux/Downs
    C : Smith/Ruiz
    LF: Pederson/Pollock

Bench: Pollock, Downs, Ruiz, Rios, Kike

Gerardo Carrillo hit 100 today in his AFL game. Him and Uceta are two guys that have impressive as hell stuff, but they are small for starters and get held back in ranking for this. Both are short and skinny which brings A LOT of questions about durability and could push them into bullpen roles. Carrillo could be interesting with that as his FB why notching into the upper 90’s has HEAVY sink to it and he works the bottom of the zone well.

None of the Dodgers prospects are really making waves in the AFL this year. This is not a complete shock as the team elected to not really send their biggest potential star prospects. Mitch White, Jeren Kendall and Omar Estevez all have seen some time with mixed results, but I would not be shocked if they are there to get some looks from other teams for potential deals this offseason.
    - Mitch White had a rough first outing, but seems to have settled in with 3 straight scoreless relief appearances. He has been moved to a full time pen role in the AFL for the first time, so that could be interesting to watch going forward.
    - Brett de Geus is continuing a fantastic second season with the org by putting together 5 scoreless outings and only giving up two hits in 6.1 IP, K'ing 7 and 1 BB.
    - The biggest news in regards to the clubs prospects is that they have added Michael Busch to the roster this past week. Staying on brand, Busch has walked 4 times in 8 plate appearances.
    - Marshall Kasowski is back from injury and after a rough introduction to the league, he too has settled in with 4 straight scoreless outing. The big knock on Kasowski is that he has NO secondary pitches. He does all his damage with a fastball that gets some 70 grades for the pure deception of it as he has the axe thrower delivery. He has got to get a second pitch going as a 50+ grade from a secondary would push Kasowski into a legit back end of the bullpen role. Otherwise he is a low-leverage reliever.
    - Carrillo was used in relief for only the second time in his last outing that resulted in at least one 100 MPH reading.

Some AFL and overall Prospect Notes:
    - Jeren Kendall had a great final month in HiA and in a recent piece from MiLB.com they talk about how he finally started feeling more comfortable at the plate with his new swing. He is not setting the world on fire by any stretch in the AFL, but it is important to remember that he is facing the best competition he has seen to date and somewhat hanging in there. The Dodgers said that his rebuild could take multiple years, so I am seeing if he shows the same off-season dedication he did last year.

    - Brett de Geus made another scoreless appearance since the last update.

    - Carillo moved back into a starter role this past week and threw a decent 4 innings of scoreless ball. He was battling command issues all night, but was working around 97 with the FB which got some attention.

    - Michael Busch is starting to get a decent bit of attention. He has shown a solid grasp of the strike zone and barreled up his first HR of his pro career yesterday. These guys do not play every night so they are not getting a ton of AB's. So far he is 3-9 with 8 walks. He is also getting some high marks for his D at 2B. This was a question mark when he was drafted as he was a CIF throughout college and did not have a ton of experience at 2B.

This past Dodgers draft is going to be an interesting one to watch play out. The '16 draft is highly regarded and talked about extensively in the MiLB world as it produced Lux, May, Gonsolin, White, Smith, Peters and Sheffield. The '19 draft is already garnering some attention and I am getting very excited about some of the things I am hearing. Hoese and Busch both look like they will be able to hold their own with a bat, while Ryan Pepiot showed better than originally advertised stuff once joining the org. The big question mark now will be what happens with Jimmy Lewis going forward. The 6-6 right hander has all the ingredients to be a dominating force if he can stay healthy. Not a bad start for the Dodgers 2019 draft picks.

The FINAL final Top 100 for 2019 has come out from Baseball America and it now has a few Dodgers break ins. Will Smith has officially graduated, but there are some new entries to the list.
    #6 Lux
    #17 May
    #46 Ruiz
    #94 Gonsolin
    #98 Gray
    #100 Downs

The Dodgers draft report card also came out and here are a couple of the ones that really got me excited to read!

Best Fastball: RHP Nick Robertson(7) sits 94-96 mph and his fastball gets on hitters quickly with his plus deception. Robertson hides the ball well behind his 6-foot-6, 265-pound frame, preventing hitters from picking the ball up until it’s too late.

Best Pro Debut: RHP Mitchell Tyranski(12) struck out 40 of the 77 batters he faced in the Rookie-level Arizona and Pioneer leagues. His curveball was his swing-and-miss pitch in relief and is the best breaking ball in the Dodgers’ draft class.

Closest To The Majors: 3B Kody Hoese’s(1) feel for hitting, above-average power, average speed and solid defense makes him a well-rounded player with few weaknesses. The Dodgers believe that will allow him to conquer the minors quickly.

Baseball America is saying that the Dodgers have found themselves another late round gem. Brett de Geus had a dominant performance in the AFL after doing just as much across both A levels this year. He was moved out of the rotation and his stuff took a LEAP forward. He has 3 legit pitches out of the pen including a mid-upper 90's fastball, a cutter that moves like a slider and a curve. They think he could move quickly here on out due to his advanced control of his pitches.

There was an interesting series of tweets last night that showed up in my timeline and they were about Josiah Gray. They compared Gray to some of the best pitchers in baseball in 2019 and how his peripherals lined up with them. Basically how he does not give up hard contact, his strike out rate is very high and he also limits his walks. Gray gave up only 3 HR's in 2019 and all were at the HiA level against Lancaster. So one team seemed to have his number moreso than others, but he also faced that team 5 times in a 40 day stretch which allows for some serious familiarity for the hitters. Even with all that, he never gave up more than 3 runs in a single outing and has garnered a lot of interest in the scouting world. This report said that Gray should already be a Top 50 prospect due to his + command/control of two pitches and said that his slider is probably a 60 grade pitch in the future. With his relative newness to pitching, he will be very interesting to watch this season as he enters year 2 with the club. This piece concluded that he is probably now at a #2 starter upside and has a higher ceiling than Dustin May.... who was a pitcher that this guy also REALLY likes. It will be interesting to see if Gray becomes the new untouchable, though I don't think that is hard to do now with the massive amount of depth on the farm and at the big league level already.

Also, the top position performers list came out today for the Dodgers. A few AAAA, MiLB depth guys and MLB bench bats on this list, but there are also some of our top prospects and some young guys to watch. Andy Pages is one of those names in 2020 as some people feel that he is the next monster bat to come up the system. At 18 years old, he absolutely CRUSHED his way through Ogden.

Some folks are chiming in about this report and the feelings are that the Dodgers system is once again absolutely stacked with talent. Even with expected big name graduations, there looks to be pop ups from potential star level talent. Downs & Gray were big leapers this year, but Vargas, Pages, Busch, Hoese, Cartaya and a couple of other intriguing 2019 draft picks could make waves again in 2020. Most of these guys are projected to be solid/above average regulars without a real superstar in the bunch. Pages seems to have the tool set to be the biggest potential monster in the system.

He is an incredible athlete, which is why he was worth the risk when they drafted him. He basically was MLB ready the day he was drafted outside of his abilities at the plate. If he was able to harness his bat skills, he was a legit star upside CF'er. Does not seem like we are going to get that now, but he was still worth the risk. One thing that is frustrating is that he was said to be very stubborn when he was drafted and it definitely carried into his professional career. It took 2 years of him being humbled before he finally let the team get involved and rework his swing. The team said it was going to take a couple of years to work out since it was such a massive rebuild, so we shall see how this winter goes.

Another former Dodgers top prospect heading to the Reds as they have acquired Jose De Leon from the Rays.

Good god, Fangraphs dropped their Rockies top prospect list and it’s.... bad. Brendan Rodgers is their only player currently with major impact projection. They have a lot of middling prospects that are too far away for great projections and that weighs them down a good bit. FG plays it VERY safe with their future value grades, but it makes the Rockies look like NL West basement dwellers for a good part of the next decade if they can’t improve their development system soon.

I should have also added that they have huge red flags for Rodgers now as he’s not been all that impressive and just had major surgery that is expected to negatively impact his defensive range, which would set his bat up as below average at 2B or 3B.
