Multiple teams have already come out and said they are close to capped out financially or have a goal to reduce payroll. The speculation that this is going to be another shitty offseason is growing fast as the owners are positioning themselves to beat the MLBPA into submission a year from now with the new CBA negotiations.

Teams that have said they are close to maxed out or are needing to reduce

    Red Sox
    Cardinals
    Rockies
    Astros
    Indians

Teams rumored to have tighter finances this year
    Braves
    Padres
    Cubs(R)

Teams that are expected to tank on or aren't likely to spend
    Tigers
    Royals
    Orioles
    Pirates
    Marlins
    Rays(they don't spend, duh)

Teams that have said they are going to raise payroll this year or are rumored to
    Angels
    Yankees(R)
    Reds(R)
    White Sox(R)

    • Cards and Marcell Ozuna are discussing a long term extension. He was damn good this year, but his defense is a crime against humanity... though he has had some fantastic highlights.
    • There is a feeling that Will Smith will accept the QO since he more than likely won't get close to that $18M figure. Reports are that as soon as the Giants put the QO on him, multiple interested teams lost total interest.
    • There is belief that the Dodgers will pursue Strasburg, Cole and Wheeler incredibly hard this offseason. Wheeler would be a shit consolation price compared to the other two, but he has been surprisingly solid the last 2 seasons and a lot of the talk around the Mets this year was how shitty their catching was. Josh Reddick recently said to expect Cole to play for a team "West of Nevada".

Man, I wish I still had a couple of connections to the club or else I probably would. I had someone during the McCourt years, but now I've got nothing. Not to mention, my wife and business would not be thrilled with this development.

There is a picture circulating the internet of Tyler White and he has trimmed up A LOT. For those that don't remember, White was acquired from the Astros mid season and soon after got placed on the 60-day DL. White was a THICC dude and it got a lot of negative attention on here amongst other places. Well, it turns out that there was a reason why. White has been suffering from a thyroid problem that was causing massive fluctuations with his weight in season. The Astros gave him zero help with it and told him that he was on his own. When the Dodgers acquired him, they put him in touch with a specialist and figured out a routine and medication plan to help him out. White's GF did not hide the fact that the Astros were dicks about the whole thing, while the Dodgers org has been unbelievably helpful. This could be very interesting to watch play out as White was pretty solid with the bat over the last two seasons and was one of the more dangerous platoon bats against LHPing. The Astros had used him all over the diamond when bringing him up, so it will be interesting to see if the loss of weight, plus control of it can turn him back into an intriguing big leaguer.

To add on to this. Alex Verdugo's brother chimed in about how helpful the Dodgers have been with Alex's recovery as well and that he is back to 100%.

A Cubs rep today said that the club is looking at taking a step back in 2020 with the intention of being back in the thick of things in 2021. So the belief is that they could look to trade a big piece or two to net some solid pieces for later. There has been a lot of speculation about Kris Bryant's future with the club especially in the midst of his case against the Cubs and how they handled his early control years.

There is a large group of baseball people that are fairly confident that the Dodgers will be the landing place for Anthony Rendon IF he leaves the Nationals. It is pretty widely known that the Dodgers FO are big fans of Rendon's style of play and there have been reports that the FO has been planning for this offseason for some time now. Buster Olney has been one of the most vocal members of the media about this the last couple of years, saying that the Dodgers were lining up their finances to make a run at Rendon and Arenado when they became FA's this offseason.

There were reports last offseason that the Dodgers were caught completely by surprise when the Arenado extension was announced. With word coming out that the Nats and Rendon have been going back and forth in extension talks since last winter, I wonder if that is why the Dodgers may have felt compelled to come back to the table on Bryce Harper and bring their offer up to 4 years after the original 2. Everyone here agrees that, we will believe it when we see it, but there has been a lot of smoke in regards to this offseason for a couple of years. One thing Olney had said in the past was that plan A was Arenado and B was Rendon, if both failed then 2020 offseason of Trout was the next goal. A lot of pieces keep getting removed from the puzzle and building from within may no longer be the key ingredient after abysmal showings from homegrown players over the last couple of playoff runs.

For this fanbase, it has rightfully become an "I'll believe it when I see it" scenario in regards to this FO, but the stars may finally be aligned for them to do something big in free agency.

As I was about to post, this comment just came across twitter
    Via @JeffPassan
"I don't know that there have been FA of that caliber since Andrew Friedman came to Los Angeles who the Dodgers have liked as much as they do Cole and Rendon"

Alright Friedman, don't fuck this up.

They need to get both. No excuses.

It's really a bummer that arenado signed that extension with Colorado. I doubt they would be willing to trade him to us.

If the Dodgers find a way to acquire an elite third baseman such as Rendon or Arenado, does that mean it's the end of Seager? Muncy in the OF seems like a reach.

Rendon is a start. And that much I can believe in because the left side of the IF is in decline and something big needs to happen. And he's a loose guy, which is perfect for this org trying break through after 30+ years

I don't think so. He adapted pretty well to 2B.

    He's an underrated athlete.

They've been able to put Muncy in the right spots position wise, as they do pretty well all around the diamond. But there's still questions about Muncy's ability to turn 2 consistently and that's not anything to take lightly. Turning 2 can be so pivotal in the postseason. I'd imagine AF would rather have a true 2B there, but what are you gonna do. I think at the very least, you can start Muncy @ 2B in the postseason when Kershaw starts because you know you're gonna need all hands on deck offensively and he is a hell of a bat at the position

    I'm not saying Muncy isn't capable. He's a good 3B, 2B and 1Bman. But...

    Rendon
    Seager
    Turner
    Muncy
    Lux

That's 5 infielders for 4 spots. There's no way they would move Seager, Turner, Lux, or Rendon out of the infield if they're on the roster.

So you either have to ditch Seager or move Max to the outfield, which I do not like.

While I hate the DH, we might benefit a great deal in that scenario.

Rendon and Wheeler would be fine. Slot Wheeler in @ #2 behind WB

I'd say Seager would definitely be available for trade in that scenario, but I don't see the FO selling him cheap just to move him. They like stockpiling depth, so I can see them happy with an extra everyday infielder, especially when one of them is Justin Turner who routinely misses time. But I'd have to think Lux has way more value to the Dodgers' FO than Seager at this point, and if we sign a big contract or two then Lux's value to the team just increases more, so Seager is the expendable one.

If he does stick around, it might be similar to the way Ethier stuck around - where everyone knows he's on the block, they just never get the right offer.

This^. They will do all this with the idea that they can move Seager, but they absolutely will not give him away. If there are no takers, the team will go into the season with him as the SS and either Muncy or Lux at 2B. Muncy has experience in LF as well so I would not discount that as a possibility, plus the team could always stash Lux in AAA for a couple months until an injury happens and have him take reps in the OF. There was a rumor after the playoffs that Lux was told to start getting reps in the OF, but that was never verified. He could be getting OF reps for a number of reasons though as one of the Dodgers top prospects behind him is a 2B that is absolutely raking and if Seager is still in the long term picture, they may want to see how versatile the kid is. I would not get hung up on what/where Muncy and Lux would play if they get Rendon. That seems to be one of the easier things to figure out as both are versatile and Muncy has OF experience where he was actually not bad.

I think Cole could be the reach due to the Yankees, Angels and White Sox. There is already steady speculation that the Sox and Angels are considering 8 year offers for Cole and that just screams of a historically bad deal. If they get Rendon, then they are probably not going to move heaven and earth to get Cole if the Sox or Angels do something really stupid. The Rockies would NEVER trade Arenado to the Dodgers. They hate the Dodgers franchise more than they do anybody else and it is not even close.

Rendon turning down $210M from the Nats is a pretty solid clue that something is up. Or at the very least, his situation is up in the air

30 year old player turning down $210M, sign of the times
