Yeah, I believe I saw a few posts that said that based on season stats, that ball was a HR 80%+ of the time at Dodgers Stadium based on Exit Velo and launch angle. Obviously weather conditions matter as well.

Yeah looking at it now. Bauer is a loony tune so I am taking what he says with a general grain of salt. We have seen a number of teams address spin rate issues with guys to turn them around. Feel like Fiers would have also mentioned that part when he came forward, unless this is a newer method. My thing is that I have heard a number of pitchers talk about the degrees they are going to to address their spin rates in the offseason. It's an adjustment to ones throwing style, but it does not seem to be incredibly tough to integrate. Would I be shocked if they were also cheating on this side of the coin? No. I just think it is harder to believe since certain players have been successful after leaving and the guy who leaked all this in the first place was a pitcher and he would have come forward in all likelihood about this too. There are a lot of pitchers in the league that you can look at and see are being misused by their clubs and since the Astros are so savy in that regard, it also would not shock me if they are ahead of everyone else in finding those guys and fixing them. If they are found to be doing this too, holy fuck it better be a bloodbath.

    • Pomeranz deal is for 4 years at 8-9M annually. So, wow the Padres may have taken a bit of a risk.
    • There was a report the other day that there was whole mess of moves that were about to start flowing, however the belief was that everything was going to happen right AFTER Thanksgiving. I wonder if these were the moves that were suspected or something more intense. So far none of these really have moved the needle. Pom is an interesting move and Gibson is ok, but both had major question marks. The Padres/Brewers move seem to pave the way for more action from those clubs. So it could be interesting to see if we see some more movement later this week or if we slip back into the doldrums.
    • The Orioles are said to be trying hard to move Dylan Bundy and *sigh* Jonathan Villar ahead of the non-tender deadline. There is said to be at least one team that is trying hard to get the former top prospect Bundy, but there is no indication of whom. The analytics community thinks he is a big breakthrough candidate and that the Orioles have used him poorly.

    Interesting.

But from a pitching standpoint, hes all about analytics and how to maximize his stuff through high speed cameras, spin rate etc. so his comments about the stros staff arent off base imo.

    Still a dick.

There's just something annoying (putting it lightly) about the guy who thinks he's the smartest one in the room, even if he might be.

    Another update:
    • The starting pitching market is reportedly way more insane than anyone had anticipated. Reports are that Wheeler may have an offer of 5 years in the $100-110M range with other teams getting ready to jump in. Top tier pitching is going to be far more expensive than what we thought coming in... Prepare yourselves for the Dodgers to not do a god damned thing now.

He just turned 30. He pitched 208 innings a year after an arm issue. I'm will to bet on that kind of man. He's strong, dedicated and can pitch. I think he gets some juice back but even if he doesn't we just witnessed what I believe to be his statistical floor in 2018/19.

He's the kind of guy that you know is going to give you a competitive outing in the playoffs. 6 innings at least of above average ball. Plus he's a winning vet in the locker room.

Hes a grinder and doesnt care what anyone thinks about his non traditional approach. I like that.

Throwing a ball over the center field wall is douchey for sure tho.

Although I can't guarantee I will feel the same way in April, this is the first time in my life that I can remember really not giving a shit. I feel like my fandom went on life support on November 1st, 2017. Nothing relating to the Dodgers has been the same since that cloudy November day. That was the most cruel experience a fan can have.

2018 was like being in a vegetative state. 2019 was like learning to walk again only to be hit by a bus just when you think you're getting better.

And then they announced that dip shit Roberts would return. I am dead as a fan.

Age, perspective, and the change in sports culture has also lead me to this point.

I'm just numb to this. Get Rendon, don't get Rendon. Extend Kershaw. Trade him. Sign Cole or don't. Renovate the stadium. Or don't. Raise prices. I do not give a shit.

I feel similar, but for me it's all about the Astros scandal. Mix the scandal in with how 2017 ended, and it's just brutal. I have this fear that MLB won't come down hard enough on the Astros and it will make me not want to be a fan of baseball ever again. Honestly, if Altuve, Bregman, Cora, Beltran, etc... step on a field at all this next season, there will be no justice. If AJ Hinch or Jeff Luhnow sniff Major League work for the next decade, there will be no justice. There are Dodgers fans who can't wait to flood Angel Stadium on April 3 to boo the Astros, but my feeling is if there is anyone on the field that day connected with the Astros scandal, then ALL of MLB can go fuck itself. This punishment is a big deal to me.

I say this knowing they could go soft on the Astros and I will still be a fan come April... but man, there's a part of me that would love to see the whole league burn if the right thing isn't done.

They are not going to do anything to the Astros that remotely equals justice.

And as others have mentioned, I don’t expect the Dodgers to do much this off season. I want to be surprised, but you can’t change a dog’s spots.

Definitely do and there is always someone that is more desperate than someone else. Would not shock me if the White Sox were willing to overpay to land a couple of starting pitchers since they don't have a ton money tied up outside of Abreu and Grandal. Should also probably try to move McCann to free up even more money if need be.
