That kind of thinking doesn’t get you a top-5 draft pick.

Won't do much to help with Irish coming around on off days.

Btw, curious as to how dementia becomes an actual cause of death, I have found out that Tom Seaver had a body dementia, the same as Robin Williams had.
    Sad in both cases...

Absolutely, but the matter still remains, that he has a tendency to take that defensive hack when the runners have the base stolen easily and it is less than a 2 strike count. Seager is also awful at that where he fouls something off with no intention to do anything else with it. Had he let Taylor get to 2B, he may have driven in the winning run instead of just advancing the runner.

Couldn't agree more. Joc is exasperating. Takes some of the shittiest and best ABs you'll ever see.

Also bugs the shit out of me when he trots out ground balls to the infield.

I guess, but Smith also has a .950 OPS against RHP'ing, so it is not like you are dealing with a shitty hitter by any stretch. 1 out, runner on 3rd and a big slow guy that strikes out 25% of the time on deck. I know which route I would have gone, but what do I know.

Exactly. We know that Smith puts the ball in the air more than your typical player, so for me, he's one of just 2-3 guys I'd want up in that scenario. Maybe the D-backs didn't realize that about him, but unlikely. There must've been something specific about that particular matchup that gave them confidence. Their loss... our gain.

I am legit frustrated with his play this season, but I also DO NOT want to see him benched as he has shown to be one of the most clutch guys we have for the playoffs.

This is random, but a Phillies announcer said this very thing about him a couple of years ago. I brought it to the attention of Hoornstra, he found the clip and in turn took it to Pederson who certainly did not appreciate that sentiment. I think this year it is becoming more of a problem since he is a shell of the guy he had been the past two seasons. He has never been the prototypical situational hitter, but he has also been one of our best post season guys in each of the past 4 years and should have a WS MVP under his belt due to this mentality at the plate. I say keep him in there and hope he gets hot, but also, "dude, know when NOT to swing the fucking bat every now and then."

I hear you, but I tend to put more weight into what they're doing presently rather than what they have or have not done in previous World Series. So if the Dodgers get back to the WS this year, I'll be more optimistic for Kershaw than Joc. Probably even more so during this season with the expectation that playoff games will have a whole different vibe due to no fans in the stands.
