And there’s 3 days off after the 3-game series, so there’s no reason not to throw the kitchen sink out there in the first round. Want May to throw a 3-inning save in Game 2? Go for it.

The umps are ruining the game with their overall, relentless incompetence. Strikes are balls, and balls are strikes.
Really needs to be addressed, and soon. It's of runaway proportions.
If there staying with these fuck up bums and don't want to use the technology, then take the superimposed K zone down.
It's just too damn distracting and counterproductive.
    It's ruining baseball...I say again.

6 IP, 1 ER for Urias, on some questionable balls, not bad. Also, Smith’s framing is not very good

Bellinger and muncy’s at bats lately though... very good

    Oh no Treinin

bullpen gonna be scary; the numbers look good this year in how they’ve done, they’ve had great results in a year where they’ve done a lot but... there’s always gonna be a magnifying glass on them in playoffs. Getting May/Urias in there could help, but it’s hard to have 100% faith in anyone really.

Jake Diekman and Blake Treinen both giving up home runs for the first time all year is wild haha.

Our best relievers are like... Brusdar and Victor? And then it’s like Baez, Treinen, Jansen, McGee, Floro all in the same tier of being good enough to get by, but won’t necessarily dominate and will blow some games. Hopefully they go on a good run during playoffs as they have at times this year

The bullpen leads league in ERA and FIP, and it’s mostly based off not giving up walks and keeping the ball on the ground. That’s not a bad recipe for success, although tHe lack of K’s are gonna lead to lots of bullshit singles rallies. Oh well. Just gotta pray for the best and hope for good utilization but it’s definitely the part I feel most scared about, even if the rest of the league has shitty bullpens

Some poor calls to be certain. But Smith does his pitchers no favors the way he jerks the ball around.

Not sure how the A's hitter kept that ball fair. It was well inside off the plate.

I'm gonna come out and say it... I am really worried about our bullpen and I think our FO is too. There is a reason that Gonsolin, Urias and May are being used in relief appearances. They are worried that we are going to need to get 6+ outs somewhere else they can't find it right now.

    totally agree
and with kenley closing i have a genuine fear of close games
imo graterol and baez should have been given opportunities to close
i truly believe kenley will again let us down at the worst possible time

For the first round, for sure. We could potentially get away with only using our actual bullpen for 2 or 3 innings.

After the first round though, we are realistically looking at a 5-man rotation. I think they are prepping to use an Opener for the young guys, and I like it, Urias and May both went substantial innings their past outings so I stop short of thinking they are being prepped for traditional bullpen work. I don't think we can avoid substantial innings from our bullpen in the NLDS or NLCS, and I guess the silver lining is that every other team will be in the same boat. But if Kenley is the de facto closer, and I have no reason to think he isn't, then we are basically counting on luck to progress in the playoffs and I hate it.

It could be anyone, of course, who ultimately and traditionally breaks our hearts...many have fit the bill over the years.
But as far as pitching, I see Kenley, Kelly, and Wood leading that darkest of packs.
Treinen I don't know about truthfully, but he does have better stuff more often than the other four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. If you throw a good pitch, and the batter hits it, then "hats off to him" as they say.
But it's sad that with such a good team, I (we?) are preparing ourselves for the epic fail.
I guess it comes with being a Dodger fan for years.
I guess it comes with what the truth has been...

I wonder if that thought even grazed Doc's thought processes at all...even remotely...probably not. He's such a rah- rah, back slapping stunada, that those alternatives never even materialized one iota.
Maybe there's no room in there.
