The Dodgers have been our No. 1 team all year, and they did nothing to change our minds after sweeping the Brewers in the National League Wild Card Series. Now we get an NL Division Series a lot of us were hoping for: an all-SoCal showdown between the experienced Dodgers and upstart Padres. Scheduling allows clubs to reset their rotations, and that’s very good news for Los Angeles…

We pretty much have to think 5-man rotation, unless we are going to pitch Kershaw on short rest or plan for a true bullpen game in Game 5.

5 man rotation but I think you use your 4-5 in games 1-2 if needed.

As usual, offense has to step up. This SD team can knock out a bunch of runs and id rather not be playing down

Any news on Clevinger and lamet?

The only thing I saw is that they probably won’t name their Game 1 starter until rosters are announced. So it seems up in the air.

I feel like even if they play, at this point there could be rust along with planned short outings. Obviously, they are better if those 2 can go at all, but I’m optimistic even if they do go.

Some news on how Roberts might use Jansen:
    https://t.co/Djne8RWVUO

Basically sounds like he’s only the closer in name and will only be used in certain situations but they could match up differently

Have to hit it better than they did against the Brewers. Brewers presented no offensive threat. San Diego lineup is deep and powerful.

I think they match up to us player by player...not so much position by position because it doesn't work out that way.
But if you take our two best, Betts and Seager against Tatis and Machado, there is no clear advantage, imo.
The next level down, say Bellinger Pollock and Turner against Hosmer, Myers and Cronenworth, is pretty even too, especially since Bellinger is now what he has turned in to...and Turner showed zero against Milwaukee.
Going further, Muncy is only a potential threat, not a real one. Hernandez, Taylor, Rios and Smith, do not leap to mind as a huge advantage over SD remaining parts...Nola, Moreland, Grisham, Profar, Garcia and Pham.
I think both sides have a pretty even offense, all aspects considered. Given our player slumps and really poor years, they actually may have a bit of an edge. We saw what a prolonged slump with a guy like Yelich can mean.
The difference has to be the pitching, of course with Lamet and Clevinger down or limited, we would seem to have the advantage. They have a distinct advantage with their closer over ours. If Jansen is not the closer, then he may be a wasted roster spot actually. With Lamet and Clevinger fully operational, they are equal to us.
I did see that SD bullpen come out and look very, very good...but we are not the Cardinals, for sure.
There is always the unknown factor, so can't say much about that. This is like Pederson's realm maybe, if he has one.
We are usually sluggish after a lay off, they are obviously on a high.
This then, comes down to management, and my long time opinion of Roberts renders me silent on that subject.
We'd better grab it all this year. I definitely know it won't be as much of a lock as it has been in recent years for us, or as easy, that's for sure.

A very data heavy article on park factors this series, looking at how the teams could be affected by going to the neutral site spots:
    https://www.mlb.com/news/home-away-from-home-how-neutral-division-series-parks-will-play

The major caveat and unknown is that there’s only been like 30 games at that Rangers stadium AND also they’re gonna try to mostly play with roof open when all year it’s been mostly closed, so that could change stuff as well

As far as roster, sounds like they’re gonna swap out a position player for a pitcher this round. my guess is it’s between Gore/Ruiz/Beaty for Floro. Cant see another pitcher worth it

as far as which hitter I’d remove it’s kinda weird, I think Beaty is the best player of the 3 but the most redundant. I like Ruiz only cause you can use Barnes to start a game (and can also use Barnes as a pinch hitter or runner). But Gore has the most unique talent and is the best out of the 3 at what he does.

I think this is a very good breakdown but I do think Smith definitely belongs in the second tier you breakdown, if not the first. He’s easily been our 3rd best consistent hitter all year, and is arguably one of the top offensive catcher in game who could’ve challenged for MVP if he doesn’t get hurt. I’d say you lump him with Bellinger and Turner

imo graterol is probably the best option, but he’s still a bit rough around the edges
would like to see diablo’s boy victor get a shot, but who knows how he’ll react in that role
which leads me to yet another criticism of roberts...
while i praise him for (allegedly) being willing to look at other options, he should have been testing others out during the season for this, not now
    especially after we had clinched
whatever, better late than never i guess
and i still cringe when i recall that first pitch kenley threw to yelich
no way he gets that shit past the padres hitters
of course if our offense comes to life it’s a moot point
ugh, i really want to beat these clowns
