The NBA used to be marketed more to white culture almost exclusively. But as black athletes started to dominate the game and black fans had the money to support their fandom the NBA had to market more to black culture.

The media though is exactly as you describe but at a deeper level than that.
As a mercenary the media are packs of mobile objects that will do and act in all of those ways towards their antagonist.
But they will also break ranks as mobs always do and start fighting themselves.
First they will fight to be the most woke. Then against the woke who aren't woke enough which is just a twist on the previous thing.
But that is the basic tactic that is always used. The pattern is always the same and its all the most obvious form of 'subtle trickery'.
