With the deferrals, it brought the actual value down from what I am seeing, so not super surprising either. Doesn't mean they can't work something out later, but with what Arenado got I could see him expecting something closer to his AAV.

With the amount of cheap/controllable talent on the way, they have the room to do it.

God I wish MLB's free agency was like the NFL and NBA. We are on like day 3 and there hasn't been a fucking peep. Then now with all these new FO's being extra secretive, you don't even have the fun rumors of years past. I'm not old enough to have experienced them, but the old days where dudes would get hammered and then start talking out their asses or making crazy deals would have been a fun in the twitter era.

It's impossible for FA to move as fast as it did in the NBA this year. It's almost as if players and teams were talking before they were allowed to under league rules /s

What!? I thought they were totally by the book! In all seriousness though, that was break-neck and yes is bullshit the way it is handled, but something where the people are not breaking the rules and the process is immensely sped up would be awesome. Apparently MLB submitted a proposal to do that this year and the MLBPA spit on it, then came back with some bullshit Boras idea. MLB realized that the talks would go nowhere so here we are with another dead offseason in all likelihood. I honestly think there is gonna be a legit war over the new CBA.

Things will pick up a little around the league GM meetings in Dec.

But if last year’s pitching market is any indication, could be the teams will be colluding to put a lid on the market for certain positions. The CBA negotiations will be interesting.

Oh I know, it’s just lame as shit and even December 1st is if we’re lucky. The fun speculatory stuff is not even coming out now and that’s all from this new style of FO around the league. It’s funny that baseball says they have a pace of play problem when really it’s the pace of the offseason that’s pissing everyone off.

I like reading your guys' posts about the offseason but I am so glad I know we are not doing shit. Nothing meaningful. Anthony Rendon! Fucking HA! HA! HA! Never going to happen.

I am not getting overly optimistic about it, but they basically have this offseason to show the fans they give a shit about ACTUALLY winning or risk getting rightfully shit on by the local media and fans. Friedman can't say the things he did at the end of the season and then lay an egg again. So I have some hope that they actually may do some shit this year that makes a drastic impact. Their penny pinching free agent moves have all back fired and this post season it happened in a glorious fashion. Let's also not forget that Anderson and McCarthy have been the losing pitchers in other major post season games. I am under the belief they are going to finally do something about it. If not, I am probably going to have no problem not re-upping my MLB.TV subscription.

And you'd better believe that it won't be Friedman and Friedman alone getting shit on by the media. Guggenheim will get some of that shit pie, as well, and rightfully. They should actually get 1st dibs. They have the keys to the vault.

That said, why would they give a shit about what the media says? Not when Guggs' mouthpiece Kasten can just hold another presser and tell the media and fans what fans do and do not like. Yeah, I could certainly see Guggenheim being fine with coming in behind the Lakers and Rams. They're printing money, so why give a shit? And fans are still filing into Dodger Stadium.

Something that I was thinking about with Friedman's comments were that they were interesting for him to come out and say that a change to the roster structure needed to be made. He was putting pressure on himself with that, but I also wonder if that was a shot at Guggenheim to stop fucking around and let him have some financial leeway. Him not spending gobs of money on guys is probably not just his plan. Look at Farhan, he went to SF and immediately offered Harper a 12 year contract. There were rumors that it was the ownership that pushed that, but the argument was apparently due to him believing that Harper was not a cure-all and he wanted to rebuild. Still, the spending big ultimately comes from the owner and if they come out again with some joke ass short term deals for these guys and miss out, then eyes should absolutely turn to Guggs. From what I have been told, thus far it is Guggs and co that have been throttling the funds whether it has been leaked or not. I am hoping now that they have sold off those minority shares (to huge Dodger fans, btw), then maybe they will be ok with spending again.

    here's who we'll get...

Per MLB.com, 36 year-old Cole Hamels says he might accept a one-year deal:
    • “I’m not there to handcuff somebody or an organization,” Hamels said. “That’s what the younger guys can do. I can do one year here and there and just play as long as I can play. I think that’s what will help give me an opportunity to play on teams that are trying to go to the postseason. If you need one guy, I can just kind of bounce around.”

I heard after the season that he wanted to stick it to the Cubs and that the Brewers/Cards are supposedly his ideal landing spots. No idea what that is all about, but it is definitely something.

The more I think about it the more I want Mookie, as long as it doesn’t cost Lux, May or Smith. We’re not signing Cole or Strasburg and I’d rather pay Mookie than Rendon for 10 years.

Rendon reportedly wants a shorter termed contract and to be out of baseball in 5 or 6 years. He's a different guy, says he doesn't even watch baseball.

That said, sign one and trade for the other. Then go find a #2 starter to go behind Buehler. Maybe Wheeler. Anybody that can save us from starting Kersh in a Game 2..could potentially find that guy at the trade deadline
