ok, here's the thing...you guys need to relax on questioning this acquisition. Uribe's OBP is .298 and he's having a good year for his standards. think about that for a second. Young's OBP is .333, so understand that Ned has just added another guy who can put together a good AB. and Young is a good guy/hometown guy. the locker room will be fine. last year and even earlier this year, most Dodger fans were ready to DFA Uribe because he hacks at the plate. you saw it again tonight. the opposition puts Ethier on base to get to Uribe and 2 pitches later SD is out of the bases loaded jam. that's why Uribe hits behind AJ the majority of the time now. Young is a guy that they're gonna be able to stick in the 6-hole and give a great AB behind our core hitters. i mean here's a guy that may actually be able to help the team give Kershaw more run support with his ABs. i like Uribe, but this lineup is good enough, top to bottom, to not have a role guy who just hacks for the sake of hacking and gets on base at a .298 clip while doing it. the lineup is good enough to draw a walk and pass it to the next man and that's what Donnie and Mark talked about before the season. Uribe doesn't do that enough. there are about to be NO easy outs in the LAD lineup. lol i suspect Uribe will still get his share of playing time, but at the end of the day Young is probably gonna be starting a lot of these games with Uribe coming in late if they have leads ( which they plan on having).

and for somebody who supposed to suck defensively, Young's fielding % is the same as Uribe's...just thought i'd throw that in there. i say that fully knowing that Uribe's range and arm are better than Young's. but the fact is Young can at least catch the ball and make the routine play...meaning he's not gonna kill us defensively. our pitching can still rule the day with him at 3B.

I don't hate it but I asked the same question, why? I don't want to mess up our bench mob but then I thought, maybe this just means Brandon League could be replaced by Young on the play-off roster.

What is cool is that he grew up a Dodgers fan. How many current Dodgers grew up a fan? More than a few if memory serves.

Nolasco, Schumaker, Punto, and I think Greinke.

No, he's much worse defensively. Uribe is a vacuum at 3rd and if Young were to get a significant amount of time at 3rd it would be very visible who is better.

And no, Uribe should be the starter. Young sucks. Pinch hitter, maybe spot starter. But no way should he play more than Uribe.

Young doesn't suck for what he is at this stage of his career, but agreed that my NO MEANS should he start. Uribe's defense is invaluable. Especially with Hanley next to him. I'm already worried about our defense in the late innings of a close playoff game. We need Mark and Uribe in there. We need Ethier to stay in CF. JMO

Young also brings versatility, veteran leadership and postseason experience.also, the dodgers are just receiving the money that texas was paying to philly for young the rest of the year.I don't understanf how either side could be considered losers here...

being much worse than a pretty good defensive guy in Uribe means what?...that Young is average or a tad below average. like i said, Young obviously won't make the defensive plays that Uribe makes, but Young can catch the baseball and make the routine plays that he can get to. if our SS were Andrelton Simmons we wouldn't even be having this defensive conversation

now...where do you rank Uribe's plate approach? because a .298 OBP is horrendous. i don't care if he's been better than he was the last two years, .298 OBP is still trash. Uribe kills rallies. told you before and you saw it again tonight. opposing pitcher on the ropes and on the verge of being chased out of the game, Ethier intentionally walked to load'em up and 2 pitches later Uribe hacks into a routine out. inning over. i like Uribe, but i hate that shit more than anything.

Uribe could very well start for defensive reasons, but even if he does start i'd get used to seeing him PH for in tight situations if i were you. with or without Uribe, the Dodgers aren't a great defensive team and management knows that. but you can still win championships if you have 3 of the 4 and they have hitting, pitching, and the potential to be a dynamic team on the base paths if they keep Crawford in the line up ( btw, did you see Ethier get stopped at 3B tonight? Crawford scores on that. ) Young fits the hitting category better than Uribe, so i don't get why you say " he sucks ". he's better than Uribe at the plate, dude

    Kemp starts. Kemp has 3HRs in his last 3 full games. his shoulder is getting stronger and it showed before his last injury. and this team struggles with left handed pitching because of Ethier, Crawford, and Gonzalez...well Kemp slaughters lefties. he needs to be in there to balance the lineup. i expect to see Kemp starting and in the 5 hole...maybe even cleanup eventually if he comes back raking. moving AGon down to 5th will unclog the basepaths and give us a lefty/RBI bat a little further down in the lineup. i like this look;

    Puig
    CC
    Hanley
    Kemp
    AGon
    Young
    AJ Ellis
    M. Ellis
if Uribe is in then AJ moves up to 6th and Uribe hits 7th

I cannot fathom how anybody believes that Young should start over Uribe. I imagine Hanley and Young would probably be the worst defensive left side of the infield in baseball history. Seriously, it would be historic bad.

Young is a bench bat, that is all, nothing more and nothing less.

I never thought he was that good even when he was good. Seemed like a jack of all trades-expert of none defensively and an overrated hitter.

That's what Donnie is saying, Young is a 1B/3B platoon guy.

You know you say Uribe kills innings and Young is apparently a better hitter?

    Young: .272/.333/.389 wOBA .318 wRC+ 100
    Uribe: .268/.326/.395 wOBA .315 wRC+ 103

where are you getting that .298 OBP, dude? Because Uribes OBP is percentage points below Young's. I understand Uribe is a free swinger, but did you know that their BB% (a decent indicator of approach) are very similar. 7.6 for Uribe and 8.2 for Young. So both Young and Uribe are average with the stick and for arguments sake, basically the equal.

That's where the similarities end, dude.

    Young: -2.3 dWAR/ -11.3 Fld/ 0.o WAR
    Uribe: +1.1 dWAR/ 12.8 Fld/ 2.8 WAR

Meaning, Young has cost his team roughly 2 wins on defense where as Uribe has given the Dodgers a win on defense. Young is not "average or a tad below average", he's very bad. Uribe is very good. Any value Young has with the stick is negated by his shitty defense, where as Uribe has been average with the stick and great with the glove.

    So.... you're wrong. lol

I do think though as a role player he'll help us out and be good for this team. Just not as a starter.

Really nothing to lose as long as he doesn't start and i'm sure he won't. We won't be seeing much of Michael Young on that diamond. He'll be what Jim Thome was except he'll be able to play the field once in a while when the division is locked up.

I think this has more to do with not wanting Dee on our postseason squad than it has to do with Uribe. We didn't have a lot of IF depth in the case of a Uribe/Hanley/Mark injury.
