Bringing Mattingly back will be the wrong decision if it turns into a circus and Yankee-esque distraction.

I've always been someone who thinks the affect of a baseball manager is greatly exaggerated (I've begun to question myself after seeing a manager make ill advised, super aggressive moves in the 8th inning that I can only guess were an attempt to follow the "play for the win on the road, tie at home" mantra... But I digress).

I like Mattingly because he threw down against the Diamondbacks. But this isn't the same situation as my coworker with 3 kids and a disabled wife not having job security. I don't give a shit about a guy's "job security" for something that classifies as a hobby in a real-world sense. Play out the season and fucking enjoy it. Don't turn your desire for an extension into a distraction. And you're fucking crazy if you think your work in 2013 deserves an extension beyond 2014.

and now this. really hope we don't end up a day late and a dollar short here. i think dbb has shown his true character with his petulant baby bs and stupid decisions. will be a shame if wallach goes on to a great managerial career while we stick w dildobb.

Jim Leyland announced his retirement earlier this week after eight seasons in Detroit. The Tigers are moving quickly to find a replacement.

Chris Iott of MLive.com reports that Dodgers third base coach Tim Wallach met with Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski and three members of the front office yesterday. FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal was the first to connect the Tigers and Wallach earlier this week while Jonah Keri of Grantland wrote last night that talks were "escalating."

Wallach confirmed that the interview took place and believes that his familiarity with Dombrowski could make for a smooth transition.

"I thought it went well," Wallach told MLive.com via text message just after midnight Saturday upon returning to his home in Yorba Linda, Calif. "They are a very good ballclub and I know how Dave works. He was my general manager in Montreal."

Lloyd McClendon, the hitting coach for the Tigers for the past eight years, is the only other known candidate to interview thus far. While Wallach doesn’t have managerial experience in the majors like McClendon, he managed the Dodgers" Triple-A affiliate in 2009 and 2010. He was a candidate for Boston's managerial opening last offseason before the club hired John Farrell.

It appears the Dodgers could turn into the MLB farm system for top managerial talent.

Seems ludicrously gay that we've had a revolving door since Lasorda.

Why don't they just fire Don if he's so bad? I just don't understand the thought process here. almost everyone seems to criticize him to no end...why is he still around... Because I say he's good? If Wallach is so good, why is he still NOT the manager?
Odd though, most of the managers we've had in this revolving door have been successful elsewhere either before or after the Dodgers. Little, Johnson, Tracy, & Torre. To me it still boils down to the players and I use that as yet another example.

Well I LOL'ed because the Giant's fans bitch about Bochy like most here do about DBB...I've read the Giant's forum many times on PSD and I myself have seen some baffling moves by Bochy many times throughout his career in the NL West. He wasn't a WS manager in SD and usually they flatsucked, yet he has been a huge success in SF. It's all about the team a manager has IMO.
But like I said, I love Bochy...he's a great manager because if his relationship with his players and the media, the same success Don has here. It took Bochy many many years to win those two WS...Don has had only 3 years in with 3 teams full of holes and injuries.
The impatience we have is mind boggling sometimes.

i have very little faith/trust in mattingly
having uribe try to sacrifice -- with a speedy runner already in scoring position -- was just asinine
and walking a perennial scrub like reed johnson to get to jayson heyward was unforgivable
but hey, maybe hillman made those calls <sarcasm

Well there's plenty of guys who didn't do whatever when they were with whoever, and then saw a team (that was really only slightly above mediocre except for pitching, lets' face it...oh, and had Zito) and got to the Big Brass Ring twice. Twice. It doesn't matter what he didn't do with whatever team.
Donnie had a history making team, eventually, no matter what came earlier for him. And they crushed the competition, and got to a step before the Big One...and then....
If twenty five years of waiting is "mind boggling impatience" to you, you must believe that Kuroda will win over 12 games one season, and Dee Gordon will be a good roster move in the...what....2018 WS? And John Travolta is not a gay jet pilot.
Impatience? C'mon, man....in fact, if it wasn't 25 years of agonizing waiting, I, for one, and IMO, many others, could deal with rehiring all these losers again much more willingly...but impatience???...now it's my turn for LOL, Fordie...

I was obviously referring to impatience with Mattingly not the Dodgers. Why I even have to post this is beyond me. The last 25 years has nothing to do with Don, just the last 3. Sometimes I wonder what the fucking point is to post here anymore. The endless sea of mindless bitching and complaining is depressing.

I can't believe this hack still has a job. All that bullshit you guys hear about the players liking him is just that... bullshit. I still can't believe he asked me to bunt. You should have seen Tim (Wallach) when he got the sign. He was as shocked as I was -- which is why he called me over. He told me "Fuck this dumb hayseed! Bunt the ball foul twice and then do your thing... I have faith in you." So I did what Tim said and hit the shit out of the ball. Donnie Baseball my ass. The guys makes Grady Little look like Lasorda. Tim should be the manager of this team. The players like him and respect him. Too bad only the Tigers seem to realize his potential. Mike Scioscia 2.0 -- you heard it here first.

well at least there appears to be some better competition for the job now.

Report: Tigers to interview Ausmus, Renteria
By The Sports Xchange 5 hours ago The SportsXchange

The Detroit Tigers plan to interview San Diego Padres executive Brad Ausmus and bench coach Rick Renteria for their managerial job, CBSSports.com reported Monday. Ausmus, who interviewed for the Washington Nationals' job that ultimately went to Matt Williams, is expected to meet with the Tigers this week. Ausmus, who spent 18 seasons as a major-league catcher, has no major-league managing or coaching experience. He played for the Houston Astros, Tigers, Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers. Renteria, who managed team Mexico in the WBC earlier this year, is a managerial candidate with the Chicago Cubs and Seattle Mariners. The Tigers previously interviewed Dodgers third base coach Tim Wallach and their own hitting coach, Lloyd McClendon, who also met with the Mariners about their managerial opening. Detroit is looking to replace Jim Leyland, who retired a week ago.

But Donnie does have to do with the LAD, Fordie. It's never , hardly, about no patience with one guy or another, because it all runs concurrently, don't you see. The two scumbo teams in the WS are testament to that all....perfect examples of organizatinal skills, top to bottom.
It's just an attitude, just a way the Dodgers do things....maybe it's "laid back CA style" IDK....maybe I'm wrong but damn, 1988's long ago bro. But c'mon....Donnie is the Dodgers, and the Dodgers are Donnie. That's the way it always is. You can't have a team, good, bad or indifferent, without each other. Donnie, Russell, JoTo, Grady, Jim...they all failed. Not a winner in the lot
Maybe it's the guy who gets the players? Maybe? just maybe?
And what I really don't get....is WTF are they afraid of changing Ned for? Has he produced a winner in his long tenure? Has he been the bridesmaid making mofo or what? WTF is the big deal? Are we losing a big successful winner if they make a change? Is this guy gold or some shit?
Jeez...this guy and the team in general has been pissing in the wind for a long, long time now. Time to change direction...piss somewhere else.
If they do, and it still is all a pipe dream, then so fucking what? just like always....I wonder how many players are we away now?

Three years with Dum Dum taught Wallach exactly what NOT to do.

Wallach is ready. Dum Dum will never be. We're fucked.
