Pretty cool that we got Barney and the Giants are stuck with Uggla though lol, given that Barney is better

I'm guessing we did it mostly to block the Giants.

This makes more sense than anything else. I was hoping someone could give me something I could wrap my head around.

I don't really understand the move (not that I'm mad), I mean I think Rojas is just as good playing all over the diamond, they both can't hit a lick.

Welcome, Darwin Barney? (still better than Uggla)

I just hope this isn't Ned's big splash move of the deadline... :cursing:

    • Despite reports of a Matt Kemp-for-Lester deal, and rumblings of Kemp landing in Seattle, other clubs report the Dodgers appear more likely to revisit trading Kemp next winter instead of now. And a Kemp-for-Lester deal would be more complicated than it looks, because Kemp has so much money ($114 million) left on his contract and because, as one AL exec put it, "Kemp for a two-month rental [Lester] doesn't make much sense."

    Thank you, anonymous AL exec.

Phillies Make Hamels Available; Dodgers Interested
By Steve Adams [July 28, 2014 at 3:03pm CDT]

Though we’ve been hearing for weeks that the Phillies won’t move ace Cole Hamels, Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports hears that the team has now made the lefty available, and the Dodgers are interested (Twitter link). However, the asking price on Hamels is still said to be very high, per Morosi.

Recently, it was reported that Hamels could block trades to 20 teams. The nine teams to which Hamels cannot block a trade are the Dodgers, Angels, Cardinals, Nationals, Braves, Yankees, Red Sox, Rangers and Padres, so he wouldn’t have any say should the Dodgers put together a strong enough offer.

Hamels, 30, is enjoying yet another strong season atop Philadelphia’s rotation, having pitched to a 2.72 ERA with 9.2 K/9, 2.9 BB/9 and a 47.5 percent ground-ball rate in 122 1/3 innings. He’s earning $22.5MM in 2014 and is guaranteed $90MM from 2015-18, with a $20MM club option for the 2019 season that can vest at $24MM with 400 innings from 2017-18 or 200 innings in 2018. He has about $7.87MM remaining on this year’s salary, meaning that he’s guaranteed another $97.87MM and could earn as much as $121.87MM before hitting free agency.

The Dodgers appear to be looking to make a big splash on the pitching front, as they’ve been oft-linked to David Price and have recently been heavily connected to Red Sox ace Jon Lester. Los Angeles has reportedly been loath to part with both Corey Seager and Joc Pederson in trades, but it’s worth wondering if they’d part with both hitters in order to acquire someone with so much team control remaining. Left-hander Julio Urias has seen his stock skyrocket in 2014 as well, while other pitching prospects such as Zach Lee, Chris Anderson and Tom Windle have delivered relatively disappointing results this year.

The Dodgers’ interest in Hamels isn’t entirely surprising, as the team could lose Zack Greinke to an opt-out clause following the 2015 season. Hamels would give them a dominant arm to pair with Clayton Kershaw in the event that Greinke signs elsewhere.

The Dodgers are suposedly interested in everyone.

If you pitch and are good at it, they want you.

why though? There isn't exactly an IF need. We have Ramirez, Uribe, Dee, and Turner. He's not better than what we already have.

So is Darwin Barney a defensive replacement for our defensive replacements?

WTF? Another glove at a position that has one of the best at it now? Is this the move that frees Dee up for CF? Who knows what these fucking clowns are thinking? Barney the dinosaur.
Some of thought they wanted pitching....some of us thought they wanted (or should have) a bat...so they get a glove. Well I hope Rojas plays more...I liked the guy.
Is this it Ned? If so, a tempest in a teapot.
And why wouldn't Hamels want to come to the Dodgers, if they can put something togther? Y'know, all our best prospects and shit?
To get out of the Phillies organization....where are they going?
I'd be sacrificing humans/animals or something if I were him to make it happen....

Barney has a longer history than Miguel and he's won a gold glove. I love Miguel but Barney is a better hitter (not ssying much I know). Ptbnl won't be a big deal and we have cash plus we won't be threatened by the Cubs anytime soon.

Apparently Barney will play 2B, SS, 3B which ok with me, but I still think Rojas is good at all those spots

I was perplexed by the Barney signing as on the surface I couldn't see a need, but he's valuable to the team in that he plays great D while hitting lefties well. I'll take that over Rojas who plays great D and can't hit anything. May also be a sign for things to come as the team nabs a defensive minded player coming up on a deadline where the team is supposedly in on a multitude of top end starting pitchers.

CK, Greinke, Hamels and Ryu would be amazing. If we eat all the money, I'm hoping two B+ prospects get it done.

Also, I'm hoping we take a look at Bartolo Colon. Should come cheap, would be a great #5 picther, eats innings and is a solid dude all around....not to mention he is ugly as hell and would thus make Uribe feel better, especially since Belly has been gone.

Maybe Figgins is more injured then they would like to admit?? Maybe it's a move directed toward Arruebarruena who basically started that huge fight in the minors? Maybe they see something in Barney that no one else does? Maybe they are shipping out Arrue in a trade?

I really don't know but I trust this FO and most of the moves they have been making the last few seasons.
