Agreed. Plate discipline, situational awareness, offensive strategy has been sorely lacking on the Dodger team for awhile. In a long regular season, 162 games is enough time to swing away without thinking, and if you have natural talent, the averages over the long haul will help you. But in a short series, where every at-bat is meaningful, you need to think about the situation, and be patient.....let the pitcher work and increase his pitch count. You need to know when to move a baserunner over....what it takes to get him home (no not being a hero and trying to swing out of you shoes). Dodgers dont have that right now. It's interesting and frustrating to see a player like Puig get on base so many times during the regular season, then decide to try to hit it out of the park starting from Game 2. It's a damn shame. Someone has to coach these players up, have a strategy or philosophy about how you want to play the game, and then execute it consistently. Like the Giants have been doing over the past few years.
some players just arent gifted enough upstairs to shift gears successfully. its on the players for having low baseball IQs, for being set in their ways, for being selfish and for lacking fundamentals. Its on the coaches for not getting the message across. and its on the front office for uniting the two. Friedman has a hell of a job ahead of him..this team coasted by beating up on the lowly NL West and struggled against most everybody else.
