I mean, the team won 94 games. They're not going to struggle with the bases loaded forever. Carl Crawford hit over .300 against lefties this season and he's terrible against them (SSS). I think the solution is a lot more simple than we think. They had a terrible time turning the ball over the Jansen. This was known about since April and nothing was done about it. Grab another reliable starter and get a bullpen. The offense is top notch based on OBP and wRC+.

Oh and let's stop with the Puig narratives. He's an aggressive, young hitter. Of course he's going to be prone to K's. He's our best position player. He is definitely not the problem.

i see this team for what it was..an underachieving lot. The Brewers smacked them how many times? Too many. And they were especially shitty at home. Anybody tryin to point to their OBP% for the entire season mustve slept through their non-NL West games. We moaned and groaned for almost 3 quarters of the season about their lack of run scoring. The fact that we didnt get the #1 overall seed should haunt everybody until opening day.

get that Puig bullshit outta here. He can be aggressive without letting pitches up and in take him out of the game mentally. Too much fuckin fluff around here.

Puig is also 23 years old, he's already a great player but we shouldn't count on him to be a leader yet anyways

Puig was good in game 1, sucked in game 2, and provided our only run in game 3. We lost the series because of our inability to pitch in the 7th inning

i dont want Puig leading my team. Long before that day comes i want Puig to first learn to control his emotions and keep his head in the game when he's challenged by a pitcher or brushed back.

and let me also add that anybody who's tryin to boil the loss to the Cards down to 1 thing is delusional. Dont be that guy.

Among the bullpen sucking was the fact that the Dodgers scored 6 runs total over the last 3 games..spoiling great starts by both Ryu and Greinke. And it was no surprise because thats pretty much how the Dodgers played against non-NL West teams for the majority of the year.

Only 2 teams in the NL had more runs then the Dodgers in the first half, so that part about only coming around in August is not true, as well as being 8th out of 30th in OPS in the 1st half in all of MLB. In may they had the 5th best OPS, in July the 8th best, to add to proving your thing about not scoring shit.

Dodgers were by far the worst team in MLB with bases loaded, but the best team with runners on base. So it can't prove your fundamental thing.

Not to mention, with runners on base, where the Dodgers were the BEST in MLB in OPS, wOBA+ and other categories, the Dodgers had 1,736 Plate Appearances. With bases loaded, the Dodgers had 115 At bats. So a huge disparity in sample sizes, where the one with the significantly larger sample shows that the Dodgers were very, very good with runners on base and bringing them in. Dodgers also had the best OPS in MLB with runners in scoring position and 2 outs, again disproving any thoughts of disability to put together pro at bats or wtv.

and your point against pro ABs against only the NL West has no basis other then your thoughts. If you look at it: http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/split.cgi?t=b&team=LAD&year=2014#oppon::none you can see that the Dodgers did great against Rockies (obviously), pretty good against Giants/DBacks and pretty bad against the Padres. Numbers against the rest of the teams are better then the Padres, and typically the same compared to Giants/DBacks and in some cases better then them.

I know it seems a certain way but maybe it's just something inexplicable what happened, cause in reality what you are saying has no proof. The playoffs sucked, but it wasn't something that carried over from the regular season to prove what happened.

Best OPS in baseball with runners in scoring position, with 1,736 plate appearances. If you wanna blame the coaches for those 115 AB's, then you gotta praise them for those 1,736

Those numbers account for 2% of our total plate appearances.

2% of a sample is like getting 8 plate appearances from Andre Ethier this season where I can find a random situation he did well in, and me telling you he had a good year.

Also: The Giants and Tigers, in 2012, were the two worst teams in baseball with the bases loaded. They made the World Series!

And like I've mentioned above, the Dodgers in 1,736 plate appearances had the best numbers in MLB with runners in scoring position. It's not the same as bases loaded but i'm giving a bigger sample for a similar type situation to put stock into.

well, sure, but the Giants didn't even win this easy division and they are in the World Series so who knows about this sport. It's just more proof towards, fuck the playoffs and sometimes shit just can't be explained no matter how badly we want to try and explain it, we can't really explain why 4 of the most important games didn't fully go in our way.

Yeah, we pretty much got this debate over with (bases loaded) a while ago.

The team just didn't do much offensively in the playoffs outside of game one. Add to that a bullpen we didn't trust and Kershaw giving up game one and being gassed in game four with no one to throw it to, we just got beat.

It sucks, but now, hopefully with a new GM and Friedman, we can build a stronger team... that will lose to the Cardinals again.

I think the thing I'm most cautiously optimistic about the new GM, other then the hopeful improvements towards the farm system, is that they will recognize when someone they sign is shitty and cut him. Having people like Chris Perez linger on this roster all year was inexcusable. It seems like a small deal but you just never know what happens if in July he is cut and you bring up one of Baez/Yimi or a healthy Dominguez/Paco. It's a huge what if game and obviously Baez gave up a monster home run in the NLDS which kinda downs my point but still: we had hard throwing arms down there and had no idea if one of them could have been good. Maybe more time in the MLB gives Baez more confidence or we realize he's gonna get crushed and don't trust him in the NLDS. Maybe Yimi turns out better then Baez and is a reliable set up man. We don't know, and at worst case scenario, they are as bad as Chris Perez.

Ned was TERRIBLE at keeping dead weight. Having Baez/Yimi/Frias/Paco/Dominugez instead of Perez/Wright might have been a difference in a lot of regular season games.

    Hope Friedman changes that.

    http://espn.go.com/mlb/team/stats/batting/_/name/lad/seasontype/2/split/38/los-angeles-dodgers

Numbers are off. 2463 ABs w runners on base. .274 BA which isn't bad at all and OPS of .761.

Now, care to explain why those numbers continue to go to hell in high leveraged situations such as "bases loaded" situations? And why those situations continue to happen with this group of players and management?

1 week is a small sample size. But I'm going to try and see if I can find some stats on the numbers for close games and late innings. To see if it's possible to get a better reading on how they produced there.

    http://mlb.mlb.com/stats/sortable.j...ayerType=ALL&timeframe=&last_x_days=&split=lc

Dodgers batted .240 in close games and late innings. Ranked 15th in MLB which is on par.
Dodgers had 62 RBIs in close and late innings. Ranked tied 24th in MLB which is not good.
Dodgers had 166 Ks in close and late innings. Ranked tied 20th in MLB which is good.

So, it just seems like they don't know how to drive in runs when it counts.

Just noticed something interesting in relation to the close and late inning stats. The fucking gnats are killers in that category. I went back all the way to 2008 and they are in the top 10 every year. If that's not an organizational thing then what else could it be?

Edit...wanted to clarify that it was top 10 in BA over those seasons.

it's the players. Don't try and tell us that mac and Don are telling them do something different when the game's on the line compared to the non-high leverage times. It's the players choking under pressure. They are all talent and no brains.

EDIT: And I'd bet the cardinals hit just fine in Hi-lev situations when Mac was their hitting coach.

1 year can be considered a small sample size. Look at Luis Cruz (even though that was more like 2-3 months lol).

In 2012 they were ranked 21st with .233 BA
In 2011 they were ranked 3rd with .270 BA
In 2010 they were ranked 3rd with .264 BA

What eye popping here is that Larussa left in 2011.

I went further to check and see if it might have been a pujols thing but I noticed in 2011 he actually led the team in ABs in those situations and his avg was .243. So if anything he brings that number down.
