I saw this last night on the crawl while watching one of Ken Burns documentaries on MLB. I've always been a big Mr. Cub fan, he has always been one of the greats in my mind. He was all that was right with baseball to me. To say I am saddened by his passing is not enough. Bye Ernie.

Seriously class act at all times.
I cannot remember a single instance of anyone having a reason to bag on Ernie Banks... ever.

Ernie Banks’ Sons Fight Father’s Will Giving Assets To Agent

CHICAGO (AP) — The twin sons of Ernie Banks asserted Monday that his agent and caretaker coerced the Chicago Cubs baseball great into signing a new will giving her all his assets.

In a statement released by their attorney, Jerry and Joey Banks said their father was ill at the time Regina Rice had him sign a power of attorney, a health care directive and a will giving everything to her.

“I find it quite interesting that she did not tell anyone that she had an attorney write up a new will,” Jerry Banks said.

Joey Banks said the family thought Rice was helping and watching over “Mr. Cub” while he was in Chicago.

Family attorney Mark Bogen said that only after the funeral did the Banks family became aware he’d signed a new will during his illness.

A provision of the will, signed and dated Oct. 17, says: “I am making no provisions under this will for wife or my children, not for a lack of love and affection for them and for reasons best known to them.”
Bogen said the family will vigorously fight the will.
Efforts to contact Rice and her attorney were unsuccessful.
Before Banks’ death, family members frequently spoke to Rice because she made it difficult for them to speak directly to him, Jerry Banks said.
“At the funeral of my father, I went out of my way to praise Ms. Rice and her son for helping my father.” Joey Banks said. “What I did not know at that time is that for at least six months prior to my father’s death, in my opinion, she was using him, manipulating him and controlled him.”
The brothers’ comments are their first in a dispute that first centered on what should be done with Ernie Banks’ remains. Estranged wife Elizabeth Banks went to court to prevent Rice from having Banks’ remains cremated.
Rice wanted Banks’ remains to be cremated after his death last month at the age of 83, according to documents filed by Elizabeth Banks’ attorneys on Feb. 2.
Attorney Howard Golden says Elizabeth Banks has thus far prevented the body from being cremated.
But it was unclear where exactly the body was taken, with officials of Graceland Cemetery, just blocks from Wrigley Field, saying he wasn’t buried there. The funeral home that handled the Banks memorial says it doesn’t have his body.

For all this mans class it's just a shame what happens after his death.

Whoa, Irish. You sure it's the agent and not the sons and wife? I'm not. I'm not sure who the bad guys are here, and I'm not ready to blame either side yet. But it's a GD shame that this has to happen, and it happens every day, when someone passes away. I'm forever grateful to my brothers and sister that none of this type stuff happened when my dad passed (and mom before him). I was my father's power of attorney, and executor and there was never a whisper of disagreement among us. Everything was up for a vote and everything was settled to satisfaction.

I almost said "whoa" to Irish as well but for other reasons

And Codge you appear to be the exception rather than the rule.

My family has been fine but I've watched my wife deal with openly money grubbing siblings for years, pitching and yawing over daddy's money while he's still sitting at the damn dining room table. No decency whatsoever. Disgust is too calm a word for the opinion I hold for them. If you want the money bad enough then get off your ass and get out there and earn it like the old man did. Bunch of entitled wastrels one and all.

And while we all have precious little data to reflect on Mr. Banks situation, it's my observation that any time someone is asked to sign those type of documents AFTER falling ill then there is usually mischief afoot. Perhaps not with the younger Banks kids but.. odds are long against the agent/caregiver. IMO.

Like I said, I'm not ready to hang guilt on anyone yet. It's just a damn shame that it happens this way much too often.

For my money, it's worth noting that the sons and the wife don't seem to be aligned, or at least haven't been associated together in the news, yet.
