one large affair with you chiming in. Lol

no, i said what Kemp did last year didn't make Ethier start in with his latest stuff, so leave Kemp out of it.

bottom line..Ethier got credit for being a good soldier and waiting until the start of the off-season to make his feelings known..you don't then give Ethier an excuse for his poor timing and blame the media for him succumbing to their questioning this time. that's not how it goes. he handled the media well last year while team stuff was going on..do the same this year. he's a grown man.." cornered " by the media or not, they can't force him to do a damn thing. get off the bullshit, bub.

At this time of year every team should be believing they are the best and fans want to believe their team can be successful and win. Dodgers, Giants etc etc. Preller, owners etc are all saying this is our time for respect and success. The players are saying the same thing. Kemp and every other player in the league talking about how good they will be are just doing what ownership and their fan base wants them to do and that is to create excitement and expectation. Again it appears from reading the Padre media that folks are excited and happy and wanting to have what they haven't had in a long time. September relevance as a contender and not just a spoiler. Even if they fall short being a contender in September for them will be a major step. The Dodgers on the one hand by constant chest thumping have cornered themselves as WS or failure which is interesting. The Angels, Nats, Orioles etc had better regular season records and got knocked out ASAP in the first round but don't seem to be doing the same level of reaction to being eliminated early on. Both leagues had wild card teams make it to the WS. Hope SPRINGS eternal for the underdog this year and yup Sunday is the first day of Spring. Dodgers are hopeful and now the Padres and Diamondbacks have had change and hope. Giants are masters at this and know they are the best and the standard for others to shoot after.

T"Peralta is fine. He's still on the program. I was a little surprised yesterday when I saw he wasn't going to be ready for the season [per a report from Ken Gurnick of MLB.com]," Mattingly said. "I think we all expect him to be ready for he season. His program continues."

Time will tell and we can all hope Peralta is healthy and ready to go. The good part is DBB feels all is well.

DBB doesn't exactly have a good history in predicting how injured/hurt players are.

talking about how good they are is a far cry from claiming to be the best and telling reporters to "write it down"
especially since, they've compiled one of worst [if not, the worst] defensive outfields in all of baseball
if he wants to say something like he thinks they're going to surprise a lot of people, fine
but to claim to be the best when the stats show the opposite is, as my original post said, delusional

    http://espn.go.com/los-angeles/mlb/...ryu-los-angeles-dodgers-dealing-back-stiffnes
GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Starting pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu was held out of workouts with the Los Angeles Dodgers for the second straight day Thursday because of stiffness in the middle of his back.

Ryu said he doesn't anticipate this setback delaying the start of his season.

"I'm not worried at all," he said Thursday.

An MRI taken Wednesday showed no structural damage, manager Don Mattingly said. He said he is hopeful Ryu won't miss enough time in camp to delay the start of his season.

"I've had enough back stuff to know it can feel bad today, you wake up tomorrow and, all of a sudden, you're back," Mattingly said.

"At this point, I don't think any of us are worried about the timetable. If it were to linger and go on and on, then obviously it would start to mess with his schedule."

Ryu, who is 28-15 with a 3.17 ERA in two major league seasons, is being counted on as the Dodgers' No. 3 starter behind Clayton Kershaw and Zack Greinke. He threw a bullpen session Tuesday, but he reported discomfort afterward. On Wednesday, he told Korean reporters that he thought he would resume workouts the following day.

The Dodgers have had reason to be worried about the health of their rotation this spring. Greinke had a precautionary injection of lubricant into his elbow last week and has resumed throwing off a mound. No. 5 starter Brett Anderson is coming off back surgery and is getting extra rest between bullpen sessions.

    Juan Pierre Officially Retires
By Charlie Wilmoth [February 27, 2015 at 11:43am CST]
Veteran outfielder Juan Pierre has officially retired, Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald tweets. Pierre did not play in 2014, so it comes as little surprise that he’s retiring.

The speedy Pierre racked up 614 stolen bases in parts of 14 seasons in the Majors and rarely struck out, finding ways to annoy opposing pitchers despite his lack of home-run power. He led his league in stolen bases three times and is currently 18th in career steals. (He’s also sixth in caught stealings for his career, with 203.)

For much of his career, Pierre was also a serious on-base threat, with six seasons with on-base percentages above .350. Pierre was a key member of the World Champion 2003 Marlins, swiping 65 bases that season before hitting .333/.481/.429 in the World Series against the Yankees.

Pierre finishes his career with a .295/.343/.361 line with the Rockies, Marlins, Cubs, Dodgers, White Sox, and Phillies, earning at least $57MM in the process, via Baseball Reference. Much of that came from a $44MM deal with the Dodgers signed prior to the 2007 season

    Long live the fluff

One of the most under appreciated Dodgers ever. What he did during Manny's suspension for this team was nothing short of amazing.

I didn't realize he didn't play last year. I thought he was stuck on a bottom half team somewhere.

A comment on the Deadspin site said "Even though Pierre has retired, his RBI total will only drop by 10 or 15 this season."

Puig batting leadoff would be a disaster to me, with Kemp and Hanley gone, Puig needs to be our big bat in the 3 hole, no debates about it.

    vs. RHP: Rollins-Kendrick-Puig-Gonzalez-Crawford-Grandal-Uribe(Olivera)-Pederson-Pitcher
