I know batting average is lame and all. I know his defense, plate discipline and power are playing big (actually HUGE) for this team. All from a premium position as well. He's just 23 years old. I didn't know he would ever be a .220 hitter and I never expected him to hit so many HR. Does it look like he will always be Adam Dunn at the plate or will there be a drastic change over the next couple seasons? I think he's capable of cutting down the Ks and using the field with two strikes and being a better hitter. I don't really know and don't pretend to. I'm just trying to be enlightened. What're your thoughts on Joc and what he figures to turn into? He will be a big part of our young roster.
I think he's able to cut down on the K's with time. He swings hard, and has a relatively long swing, so thatll happen. To be honest, I see his career progressing like Edmonds. They have broken in at the same age but Joc with way more power and also way more K's. I wouldn't tell him to do anything different but as there is in the minor leagues, there's development going on in the majors as well. You see it happen all the time with guys getting way better than the consensus thought they'd be once they reached the majors. I wouldn't be worried
Idk what he will turn into but if he remains Adam Dunn with defense then I will be perfectly fine with that. Adam Dunn with defense is a great player.
he just need to shorten his swing, especially with two strikes this is something to work on during the offseason, not now big/long swings generate a lot of power and bat speed, but they also create a lot of holes -- and crafty pitchers take advantage of it
I remember getting laughed at on the ESPN board when I said Joc could probably lead the Dodgers in Home Runs and was going to be one of our better atheletes. Seeing him w the Quakes almost every other day sold it for me.
The BA is definitely concerning IMO, as he's a slump away from the Mendoza line. I do think he'll improve on that though, this is more than I expected in his first season
I know who Mark is...but Mickey? He does talk to Mickey...every night. Teh manager, Mickey Mouse. Seriously, you mean Hatcher, right?
I mean this was expected, even when his Obp was at 440 for the first month, wasn't it His babip was incredibly high and thus unsustainable as a number of his batted ball rates were also. I had him getting on base at a 33% clip for the ROS. He's been on base at a 33.5% since then. Im not alarmed though. He's young. He's still been very valuable for us and will only get better through the years. If this year is his floor then that's 3ish-4 wins easy. Let him clean up some base running issues, fix some shot at the plate and in a few years we'll have a very very good player on our team
I remember you talking about him early on after we drafted him. You definitely called it... though that Mike Trout comp didn't really play out
