A prospect of his caliber needs all the innings he can get right now. No problem with him getting another start or two down in the minors before coming up. Can't forget he missed a bunch of time in the middle of the season.
So weird looking at our potential call ups and knowing for the first time in as long as I can remember where this is actually going to be big positive for us. A good 3rd catcher so that we can use one of our good hitting catchers on an off night to pinch hit in a big situation. Mattingly has been trying to play the situation game of R/R, L/L with the bullpen and we are going to have solid pieces like Garcia, Liberatore, Coulombe, Frias, Thoma, Ravin and Bolsinger to utilize that better, possibly even Urias and/or Cotton. Then there is that hot hitting top prospect we have that could be on his way as well. Nice to finally have a September where we are bringing in a good group of potential contributors.
OKC Dodgers @okc_dodgers 2m2 minutes ago Julio Urias has been promoted to OKC and will start against Iowa tonight. Welcome to OKC, Julio! ------------------- Likely making a couple of starts to finish the season, maybe a playoff start, then called-up.
Manager Don Mattingly said Monday that Seager will not be called up Sept. 1, Bill Shaikin of the LA Times reports. Spin: Seager hit the ball well with Triple-A Oklahoma City in August, but the Dodgers are not yet ready to throw him into the big league mix just yet. Mattingly would not commit to any time frame for bringing Seager up, so it remains to be seen when his big league debut will come. It's OK. Dodgers don't need any help on offense.
I really don't see how Seager won't be called up. Do we have anybody else to backup at SS or 3B without Kiké? They need him actually.
Also, since I (and everyone else pretty much) excoriate DBB when he so frequently fucks up, I would be remiss if I didn't compliment him on a well managed game last night. IMO. Definitely. Give the devil his due, he manipulated the BP/lineup very well under less than ideal circumstances. Good one Donnie.
They probably just want him getting regular ABs as long as OKC is playing. He'll be up once their season is over.
After passing on Grade A SP at the deadline, why not see what you have in Seager? Rollins is not the long term answer and frankly neither is Turner. So why not?
Yeah, I read that earlier. My point still stands, I don't want to see Guerrero or Utley starting at 3B when Turner needs a day off. Why the Turner hate?
Not hating on Turner, but with Seager and Peraza, plus the possibility we might keep Kendrick a little longer, where does Turner go?
Turner has been one of the best, if not THE best, hitter for the Dodgers in the past year. Turner is gonna be given priority as a starter over the other guys. Especially with injuries, Inwouldnt be surprised to see Peraza start as a bench player or in the minors, similar to Enrique, with the plan being he will come up once someone eventually gets injured
Sorry to be the Debbie Downer, but Turner is NOT a full time player...never has been. He's been fantastic for us...in a part time role. He's topped 400 PA's once in his career (he'll do it for the second time this year) and it was out of necessity, as it will be this year. Hey, I love the guy (not much homo) but I love him for what he is, the guy on the team that comes off the bench and saves the bacon or the guy you count on when the DL has the team on the brink of disaster and he pulls it out by taking over a position short term with killer results. But he's not an everyday Eddie and if you're counting on him to be a starter you're gonna be sad. If you get 110 starts a season out of him, that's pretty much maxing it out while keeping him healthy. That's JMO, but it's right. :blind2:
Everyday player or not, Turner's still getting the majority of the playing time at 3B as a 3 days on/1 day off guy for them, so I don't see the issue here. More importantly, when Seager takes his place next year he's joining an already lefty heavy lineup, so they should get Turner's righty bat in there as much as they can to give the proper protection. Both Turner and Kendrick should be priority righties in the lineup going forward, especially since Puig is trying to find himself and he really can't be counted on. They'll have Kike, Seager and Barnes as options when it comes to giving Turner days off @ 3B. But Turner and guys like SVS to a lesser degree..they hold even more weight with us now since the new FO is all about the guys who can play multiple positions.
