Yeah I mean whether they resign Greinke or not they have a plan. Obviously I want Zack back but it's not going to be an "oh well, now let's go sign Capuano and Harang" situation like in the past.

Nightengale already said the next closest bidder (The Cardinals) were 30-40 million less than Boston

Bowden (yeah I know) says his sources expect 6 years 32M AAV+

And to sign within next 48 hours

Crasnick says they were in, I can't imagine them being in and not at least offering 6yrs

    Wow.
    6yrs?
I assume it's the Dodgers handing out that type of contract if Bowden's right

Why do I feel like the Cubs or Angels are about to buy Greinke?
I really could see the Dodgers, Giants, and Cards aka sensible teams tapping out after 4 or 5 yrs for Greinke
Cubs could easily blow the money with all their young, cheap position players
Hope I'm wrong here too, these updates are trollin the hell outta me

Not so sure, SF has those supposed new revenue sources in the coming years, Peavy and Pagan coming off the books after 2016.

SF has a good chunk off the books both this off season and the next, then in year 3 their real estate deal could start bringing in more cash. With a bad farm system, they need to bring in some top talent to stay competitive or else it is going to be a team carried by Posey, Crawford and MadBum.

I think it'd be about years 3-6 for them.
Would they be able to handle the Cain-level drop off if there is one?
Cain at 23MM AAV already holds a spot until after 2017, and the Cain mess comes after the Zito debacle
New revenue or not, you never wanna just spend frivolously and they gotta start hitting on some of these big contracts.
They win so people don't talk about it, but I agree with Olney in that it'd represent a leap of faith for them.
If Greinke fails there that's Zito-Cain-Greinke, somebody

The Zobrist market currently has him at 4 years and 60 mil.... Guessing that takes the Dodgers out of it as that seems pretty unreasonable for his services.

Olney didn't say a 6th year was a leap of faith for SFG
He said signing Greinke period would be a leap of faith
It's assumed that Greinke is getting at least 5yrs, no club or player options tho
I forgot what they offered Sandoval last year

    4yrs?
Hell, I think 3yrs is stretching it
The guy has cleaned up as a player for a while, I think he has something like a Top 5 or 6 WAR in all of baseball since 2009
    That age tho

Yeah paying a 38 year old $32 million doesn't sound ideal.

I just want to keep him. 5 or 6 years, I don't even care. But I can see this FO not wanting to give him a higher AAV than Kershaw and that be why we lose him.

    Thank God.
A short stay in SF, but he still offered plenty of fuckery
