    Any Mac guys want to weight in?

    I want to buy a Mac because I'm interested in iOS development and I need a new system anyway. I'm looking at the 2012 MacBook Pro 2.3GHz with 15.4" screen, used for $730 through Amazon. It comes with Mavericks, but I read you can upgrade to El Capitan for free. And it comes with 4GB RAM, but I'm looking at upgrading to 16GB myself for $50. It looks like the older system is more upgradeable than the newer Macs, and I like that.

    Anything I need to watch out for in a Mac?

    I use an iPhone and iPad, but besides that I'm primarily a PC guy. The last time I used a Mac was my G4 back in 2002.

    @irish what do you use for photoshop? I believe CS2 is free to download and use, but will that work on the newer OS?

    i'd always used both macs an pc's
    over the past few years it's been mostly macs
    rather than amazon, i'd look at the refurbished ones on apple -- http://www.apple.com/shop/browse/home/specialdeals/mac/macbook_pro/15
    they go through a thorough inspection/certification -- most say better than on the new models
    i know several people who have gone this route and all remain pleased with the choice
    you'll pay a bit more, but it's definitely worth the peace of mind
    as for specs, i'm running 8G ram on mine and it's fine
    mine is a 13" but the retina display is fantastic
    i'm currently running osx yosemite 10.10.5
    on photoshop i'm using cs6 and it runs very well with my system

    Agree with the refurbished analysis. Also, open box at Best Buy can get you great deals. I've done both and the refurbished one lasted me a long time and the open box one at Best Buy was only that a customer bought, opened it, and returned it the next day cause they realized they didn't like it or something. Of course every case is different but they're not all worn down or anything

    Thanks for the ideas. It's going to be hard to talk myself into buying through Apple or Best Buy when the difference is more than double the price. I like to live dangerously, plus I'm soon-to-be unemployed, so I will probably go the cheaper route. I tend to have good luck with computers lasting forever for me.

    Irish, do you have anything else from the CS suite? Or just Photoshop?

    Seriously no way to explain how incredible Medellin is as a desination for the American male. The guys that brought me here are veterans of the area and have given me the inside on it is to be on the ground here.
    The exteme beauty and sweetness of the Colombian women here defies imagination. And im not gushing. You guys know ive been around.
    Very nice international scene w great clubs and decent food.
    Should be a requisite visit for any man considering marriage lol.

    Im supposed to go visit the ancestral land next year.
    My new abuelita lives on one of those sweet leaf andean farms.
    While i didnt go looking to the district of colombia, i did get myself one recently naturalized in the district of columbia.
    10 year vintage of importation.

    Trump calls Cruz Lying Ted all througout the campaign and before the primary then says he was courageous after calling it quits. Calls him and his wife good people now too. As the Great Harry Hoo would say... amazing

    Yeah...similar to what Cruz said about Rubio after he dropped out. It is not that amazing...and every poitician does it every election. Cruz excoriated him mercilessly before then.
    Like BO railed on Hilary 8 years ago, then made her Sec. Of State. It's what they do.
