I just hope each and every one of us takes a moment and thinks about the millions I guess it is, that gave up the ultimate so we could enjoy a holiday weekend with family and friends.
I don't know why this one seems to be effecting me more than previous, but it is. Maybe age. Maybe something else. I don't know really why.
But I do know that the Dodgers and baseball disagreements are little and meaningless in the scope of the fallen. Please remember them, no matter how little individual time can be spent on it.
And thank you to all that have served...

maybe its affecting you more because those who died most certainly never could have envisioned what we have become
looking over that sea of tombstones off the 405 tears me up every time i look in that direction
i hope we find our way soon so that those lives were not given in vain

    Beautifully written.
And with further thought, you are absolutely right. What have we done to preserve the meaning of their sacrifice...?

I drive by our local cemetery most days on my way to work.

Watching the Boy Scouts and 4-H kids putting flags on the graves of the vets (including my father) is very poignant.

just pisses me off when i see/hear about someone complaining about the military
the irony is these idiots don't seem to realize the rights they have [to speak their insipid minds] is solely because of those same soldiers they're condemning
    fucken jerkoffs

When jesus walked a possed man came to him. He said his name was legion for he was many.
This place where jesus was was a cemetery. Jews didnt use cemeteries they interred people into cave like crypts.
This was a roman cemetary for fallen legionaries who died trying to subdue the freedom fighting jews.
Roman legions were all numbered and then given a title so they would be honored and remembered.
Legionaries who die in service are never left behind. Always taken back to rome for burial with honors.
But as the republic became an empire the once landholding knights serving the republic on their own dime were supplanted by salaried serf soldiers beholden to their field lord.
The legions get nice names like the 5th ironclad legion of Gallilee.
When they died the legionaries were promptly returned to rome. For they had died in glorious honor to rome and mars.
But latter legions didnt fare too well.
Filled with many dishonorable men without discipline or loyalty.
Soldiers of fortune not of mars.
These salary men raped and pillaged their way through the land of israel.
And when it came time for battle their poor constitution was self evident for they put up a sorry fight.
These types of modern legions died without honor because they lived without honor.
So they received no name and bestowed no title. Barely recognized as legions but not really legionaries.
Buried under enemy territory in unmarked graves the unknown soldiers rested where they died on the field of battle.
So the demon possed man that came to jesus symbolizes these legions who great and number had died to smaller bands of faithul defenders.
But as time went by that land was taken over by rome and it now was a roman protectorate. The cemetaries being constant reminders of how the land was won and by whom. All the jews had been slaughtered relocated in the empire as labor or forced to flee.
The county was full of people who had no faith and lived in a contested land they had settled as their own.
A ghost town of poor nerfhearders living with the shame of what their ancestor soldiers had done in the previous generations of war.
The unknown legionnaire represents this time in romes history.
And only coming to jesus gives the dishonorable any peace and dignity.

    Happy remember your history day.
And remember to never cross the Rubicons.

    Remember, remember!
    The fifth of November,
    The Gunpowder treason and plot;
    I know of no reason
    Why the Gunpowder treason
    Should ever be forgot!
    Guy Fawkes and his companions
    Did the scheme contrive,
To blow the King and Parliament
    All up alive.
    Threescore barrels, laid below,
    To prove old England's overthrow.
But, by God's providence, him they catch,
With a dark lantern, lighting a match!
    A stick and a stake
    For King James's sake!
If you won't give me one,
    I'll take two,
    The better for me,
    And the worse for you.
A rope, a rope, to hang the Pope,
A penn'orth of cheese to choke him,
A pint of beer to wash it down,
And a jolly good fire to burn him.
Holloa, boys! holloa, boys! make the bells ring!
Holloa, boys! holloa boys! God save the King!
    Hip, hip, hooor-r-r-ray!

Well BZ and the rest of you guys farting dust I have to admit you inspired me
I decided to go hoist the flag over at the lair (actually 2, one on either side of the door)
And I was struck as I drove over that I noticed only one flag at half staff in front of the Ralphs on Devonshire and Canoga
Lots of commercial all down that corridor and not one other flag on Memorial day
I guess you could think that those businesses are closed for the holiday but many were open including Mcdonalds and other large chains
It would seem to be a sense of shame surrounds being any kind of positive about our culture and our history now
As you may have noticed its only us old guys that seem to care about those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom
Sort of a big deal isn't it?
Yet it appears the agenda to vilify and shame our unique American heritage is working
We did not start the world wars yet we finished them at a massive loss of brothers and sister we will never know
And yes we have involved ourselves in some misguided wars in both an attempt to prevent worse and of course on political agenda
It is our politicians and our professors who have embarrassed us and made us feel shame in the face of our history
I know I am not alone in feeling that incredible debt that is owed to those who gave all
Just have this sinking feeling that those who wish future generations look back in shame are winning

Absolutely, and I throw a salute over that was every time I drive by it, heading north. I imagine what it must have been like the moment they went out and get the chills.

I also think that America is great and will survive Obama.

Hopefully it's only 4 years of either one of these asshats until we can get some real candidates on both sides.

Probably not though. American politics are a joke.

Been voting for longer than I would like to admit and I've never seen such poor choices for the highest office in the land. It's a fucking embarrassment.

    :this: word for word.

I just read a political piece from Google News originating from Huffington Post (known for far left bias) in which the author does a great job of explaining why Bernie Sanders is still running and should continue to run even in the face of the DNC openly supporting only Hillary even before primaries occur. It's long but I kept laughing/groaning as they openly butchered Queen Pantsuit on one matter after another.

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/seth-abramson/how-to-explain-the-sanders_b_10206250.html

How to Explain the Sanders Campaign to an Idiot, Paul Krugman or a Clintonite in 8 Sentences

Clearly the Huff Post perspective is solely on which Dem can beat Trump.. and they think that it is Sanders. I think that they might have touched upon something better near the end...

What if... what if BOTH Trump AND Hillary are indicted on criminal charges?

Suddenly we have two (known) corporate crooks versus an open socialist.

Some news channels suggest that there might be more Hillary charges coming and Trump is NOT out from under the radar on the openly organized theft at Trump U. as his ex partner just directly testified that Trump personally directed internal messages on how to 'fleece' paying students.

    Voting is for idol worshippers.
You go into a niche and place votive candles on a saint hoping your prayers get answeres.
    Why its called vote.
Its what hindus been doing for years to their many gods.

    Wrong Rube...

Voting is for self represented Democracy.

Idol worshiping is for believers of ancient fables who pray to made up gods/dogs/cows/stars/flying spaghetti monsters etc

lighting votive candles is practiced by exactly those type of 'believers'
